if i did make it out of wood, any ideas what i could use to heat the water???

I use 2 x 3kw imersion heaters in my brewery. How you would fit them in wood I have no idea

Take a look at 181202509078 on e-bay ; might be a cheap start-up option & easy to fit standard immersion heaters in the side walls as it appears to be galvanised steel.

Get friendly with your local agricultural suppliers - dairy farms swap out tanks every so often and a local brewery managed to get a pair for half what he'd been quoted to have one made. They are approx 4m long by 2m wide and maybe 1 deep. All stainless polished to food grade and with nice rounded corners that are easy to clean.

How long will it last?

once kegged and under co2 it can last up to a yr, it gets better with age, last time I brewed was January this year. It takes a day to make whether you brew 25 liters or 100 so might as well do large large batches.

ive hatched a plan... im going to make one out of marine ply as i can do it to whatever size i like,( as ive got limited room in the garage with hood and lambretta project.)

waterproof it with fiberglass and somehow put a section in one side made from galvanised steel or aluminium to fit an immersion heater element into.

 

then comes my next question.......... how to wire up an immersion heater ??

 

once ive got it sorted (and had lots of practice) i will be willing to do fellow hoodies stuff at cost.....

I think a couple of aquarium heaters will do... needs to be between 30 & 34 degrees......
