Got the Kitten running today and ticking over nicely albeit at 2k rpm but then it is a bit of a race engine. Well after 5 min when engine was up to temp I;

  1. Turned it off with the key...engine kept going
  2. Flicked the kill switch off... engine kept running
  3. Disconnected the earth from the battery...engine kept running
  4. Disconnected the live...engine kept running!

So no power going to the engine yet it still ran. I had to suffocate it to stop it.

Not a fookin' clue whats occurring! anybody got any ideas?

Similar thing has happened to me in the past with an electric fan.

With everything switched off, especially when it was ticking over fast,

the fan becomes a generator & supplies sparks to the rest of the engine.

But when it comes to lecktrickery I'm a complete numpty.

My brother sorted it for me, but cant remember how.

Try disconnecting the fan while the engine is running then switch off the engine.

dieseling? Sure i read something along the lines that oil from the sump can on a worn engine go into the combustion chamber and be burnt and keep the engine going, until the sump oil runs out.

i agree dieseling ,i saw a petrol engine blow its self up nearly 40 years ago when i was in the last year of my apprentiship i think it was in a ford cortina one of my mates had

common enough on a diesel to run on its own oil but a petrol engine would have to be absolutely shot to run on these days with cleaner petrol and oil we don't get build up of carbon like we used to do when bits of carbon used to glow red hot and cause run on
