Mt75 Oil

My MT75 gearbox has a sticker on it telling me to fill it with GL-4 oil. I filled my diff with GL-5 oil and have some left over and I was going to just use that in the gearbox, on the assumption that GL-5 is the improved version and thus better.

 

However, doing some research, I found this:

...which suggests this is not a good idea.

 

Can anyone confirm/debunk this?

Hi Nelmo.

I think you will find that there are several oil vendors who sell special MT75 oil, I think if they go to that expence then it should be right.

My understanding is that gl5 oils are not to be used in boxes containing brass components. I'd recommend comma, who make a specific gl4 oil.

No synthetic oils in any equipment using brass, copper, bronze or zink parts.

A cirtain DAF dealership found that out at great expense to themselves.

A few upper crust jobs had vacancies that day.

I have used ATF in my mt75 for the last six years on the advice of a gearbox expert and had no problems

If the box has a sticker on it saying use gl4 oil then I would use gl4 oil....

BGH recommends and supplies Comma GL4 for all their modified Type 9s....not sure about the MT75

Any motorfactors will have MT75 specific gearbox oil - even Halfrauds should.

For a few quid, is it worth the risk not to use the correct oil?
