hi,

i have an unbuilt rh, i think its a seven. which front crossmember can i use, does it have to be a series 1 sierra? these are difficult to find also i want a 2 ltr donor. is the granada any use as a donor without too much modification. what about a later sierra crossmember. also is the rear suspension the same on a granada?

all help and advice welcomed. im ray on 01273 389418 and live in brighton

Ray, assuming it is a series 1 Sierra and not a cortina based one, (or even Triumph) then you will need the front crossmember from an early Sierra, there is an angle iron structure that fits on to where the engine mounts were to form the top wishbone arrangement. Have you got a build manual? As Terry said look at the NW hoodie site and see if you can spot what you have got.

One other point the RH methode of shortening the propshaft useing the front half only was not reliable. Get a propper 2 UJ propshaft the 1 UJ and rubber donut arangement did not last long.

Lots of places make them up..... I would think you could budget at least a 100 -150 quid or so though...

Just do a search on Google & give them a ring.

A bit of it fell off at 40 pulling away from a roundabout, heard a loud clunk from the transmission tunnel, stopped had a look, couldnt see anything wrong, carried on to donnington show :D had another clunk on the way back going through a tight corner at 50, stopped and had a look, pondered, drove back home  a few days later realised what it could have been and sure enough there was a big chunk of it missing but it still worked

Lucky man just think if it had let go completely you may not be here to tell the tale. Not worth the risk mate get it changed

picture this, 25lb lump of steel revolving at 2k rpm, nothing but ,8mm stainless steel between it, and your legs/side.

If it lets go at speed, you could be in for some very serious injurys,

Its starting to fail, please replace, before it gives up completely

 :( :(

sorry i forgot to say that we did put a new one on so it should be ok for a few months though yeh?

i wouldnt keep the broken one on but I think I'll wait a while before getting one specially made as I seem to be spending more money than i have at the moment

You'll find that it's 0.8mm - not very thick really - a bit thicker than what you get round a Kit Kat

Mitch's reply quotes ,8mm - I read that as 0,8 mm

If the propshaft does come through that tunnel side is going to have some lovely sharp edges to it just to add injury to insult
