  1. I have a wiring guide, so it's helping with a number of things. I've not marked anything up as it's either plugged in, awaiting plugging in or I have no idea what it is and it's just waiting there. I believe most of the things left are aircon/radio/interior lights/sensor related...All of which are gone. Speaking to some guys at work, I'm going to look at some diagnostics software and adaptor to plug into the Mx5 diagnostics plug, see what's what depending on the price of the kit, maybe see if there is a trained person to take a look too....just ideas until I know if its properly sorted or running etc
  2. Engine Cranking, now to get the rest of the electrics sorted!

  3. It's ok, I managed to get the engine to crank last night so I have a starting point. Just got to wire in the fuel pumps and it should soon be ready to go...or at least run the engine and figure out which bits aren't working! Slowly getting there....

    Lightbulbs

Ok I believe you, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulb If Wikipedia says so, then it must be true!

    Lightbulbs

Nah a lamp goes on your bedside table haha!

    Lightbulbs

    Excellent, cheers mate

    Lightbulbs

I know the headlights are H4 type bulbs, but what bulb types are required for the rest of the car? Any help will be appreciated. Cheers, Zach

    Zero Chassis Number

Hmm good point, its an interesting thought to play with. Of course going to get something approved before stamping things Phantom registration is a good shout, but how quickly can you change the coloured GRP bits on the car and replace number plates? Just another thought to play with haha

    Zero Chassis Number

So the chassis number of: "MyNameOrSomething"23082013 would possibly be ok? 23/08/2013 - (pretend kit completion date) lol
  10. No, I intend to travel back in time! Haha, absolutely, I do like living in the past.....
  11. Hi All, I have been doing battle with the electrics on my Mx5 based Zero, unfortunately having never done anything like this I am stabbing in the dark as a whole. I have some things identified and plugged in, others randomly guessed and appear to be in the right place....but not knowing exactly what I'm doing, I will be needing some help. I was wondering if anyone around the Tamworth Area was willing to help (looking at Saturday/Sunday 20th/21st June July) to help sort the electrics out to a stage where I can have a circuit and some power through the system maybe fully sorted? Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided as well as bacon/egg/sausage sandwiches Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Zach
  12. It's something I'm looking at doing when I go back in my final year in September, I didn't feel I had the skills to do it, but building the Zero I know I can. Maybe I can slip the Zero in to the field.....

    Plasti Dip

It's great stuff!! I was going to do it to mine after IVA if the money, time and desire was truly there. I have played about with it on a big piston from a 14 litre engine from work (now a pen pot) it's great stuff when done properly, if not, you just let it dry and peel it off. Only down side is that it does need to be cleaned thoroughly to stick to metal, so I would definitely go for a primer if using on a car and get a proper spray can holder thingy if going to do it. I'm definitely going to use the remainder of the can I got on the rear stone guards to help give that extra protection and see how well easy/good it is on the metal. Plus might do the transmission tunnel with it too instead of wrapping or something, depends how I feel at the time.....
  14. Cheers guys. I like the look of that Formula Ford! I have done a little bit of research and a low emission vehicle can be classed low emissions when compared to similar vehicle average. Something like emissions of 90% of the class average can be classed low emissions...so maybe a new efficient engine (like the ecoboost) and a few aerodynamic packages too? Possibilities are endless. I plan to use a IC Engine, battery power may be the future but nothing beats a top exhaust note! It's early days and just popping a few ideas about and seeing what people think. But then again, I think that I am focusing too highly on developing a car rather than designing new....but generally speaking, small engine but powerful engine, lightweight and aerodynamically sound should get me on the right path as RichyB said? I've also asked the Office of Low Emission Vehicles for their criteria to double check what they class as LEV, should help brainstorming ideas. Trying to find out a bit more about the topic content too.
  15. Hi all, I am beginning to look at a list of potential projects to do for my final year dissertation project. I have found what I believe to be the perfect project: "Design a high performance, low emission and affordable 2-seater road car". Now I have already thought of the obvious, however, disregarding the kit car industry, what other cars fit the above category to be used as benchmarks? Or even what would you re-design/do differently to a generic kit car design that I would apply to the above project title? Cheers, Zach
  16. Plastidip? Spray on rubber coating, plus if you don't like it or it gets worn away, you can just slit it and peel it off. Something I may look at doing after seeing about stone chips...
  17. Cheers for the response guys I have a rubber seal already, was thinking I need some form of paste/glue stuff to help seal it but sounds like it should be ok, might see if anyone has a tube of the Loctite at work to borrow
  18. Not sure if this is the right place but anyway...the black stuff from GBS, can this be used to seal the fuel sender into the tank? Or is a specific sealant required?
  19. Engine in and we are rolling!

  20. This one was a banjo fitting originally so that was sorted and fixed. Went to bleed the system and found that all the braided hose connections leaked. I am fairly sure I was using the wrong type of flare with these so back to square one again...pros and cons this weekend.
  21. Cheers for the offer Richy but I ordered one straight away that should arrive today ready for the weekend activities I have managed to get hold of a picture of someone's Mx5 with it on and it was infact a banjo bolt...so that's the next option if it still isn't working
  22. Hmm the union length sounds like it might be the winner. All the other unions are the same and have the same flare but don't tighten to the hex. I'm guessing this is the issue...Time to find a longer one! I will try this as the first option as the flarings are working for the rest just fine.
  23. I re-flared the end twice and replaced and tried again. I've flared the same on the other ports too and they are fine, this side however screws all the way in making me thing its a different fitting? I will see if I can figure out what the master cylinder needs. It's an MX5 master cylinder- forgot to mention, it may help.
  24. Hi guys, Thought I'd get the brake fluid all sorted last night and bleed the brakes. It's pretty much done but I have a leak out of one of the unions on the master cylinder. I tried putting a load of ptfe tape on the thread again and it still leaked. I then realised it was actually coming through the union centre (where the pipe is) and coming out of there. I replaced the brake pipe and re-flared the end (twice in the end) and it was still leaking! I'm starting to think of using a banjo bolt with copper crush seals but I'd rather not have to wait for these to be delivered. Anybody know how I can get this to seal properly? Cheers
