Aye, all good comments there. Perhaps we should vote on starting up our own Geek Squad Section on this Forum!

    Antispy Ware

Hi All, I have a Degree in IT and have worked in it all my life. I hate Microsoft with a vengence that you could barely imagine. In the past I have spent countless hours on my PC trying to fathom out just exactly what was going on inside XP or whatever the OS was at the time. Wondering why it suddenly all went slow and went into 'Grind Mode' etc. Many would say that actually I was just a thicko and that's why I used to have so much bother. To tell you the truth, I came to the point where I actually just didn't want to know anyway. PC's should be here to help us. Browse the net, check emails, listen to our tunes, look at and store our photos etc. Microsoft has turned this the other way around. We seem to be slaves to them and I have better things to do with my life than wrestle with the likes of Microsoft and their mindsets. I want a PC that I can turn on, not wait to the point where I can visually measure the growth of the hair on my head, get what I need out of my PC and then wander off to do whatever it was that's more important. Then I discovered another Operating System. It has word processing & spreadsheets etc. It has a browser. It does email. it stores your photos and plays your music. There are many other bolt-ons which you can add on. Most importantly - IT'S FREE! Antivirus stuff etc is all built in and sorts itself out... and it does exactly what it says on the tin - a bit like Ronseal. I do have a copy of XP on my PC but I only ever fire it up in order to update my TomTom or my iPod. There's alternatives to that too, but I can't be bothered at the moment. True enough, this new found OS is no good if you're into gaming, but I do all my gaming on Her Majestys highways or in the garage, which may be probably where you all want to be rather than sitting in front of one of Bill Gates's infernal creations. OK, I could rant on and on but I won't. If you want to be freed of the shackles of Microsoft, check out http://www.ubuntu.com/ I'll never go back.
  3. I might be interested but not at those prices. Do they have a website so that we can tell the difference between their E2 and E8? Or am I now assigned to the Hall of Shame for asking such a stoopid question?
  4. The '6' refers to 6J (the width of the wheel) and not the offset. The offset may be on the mating face. HTH
  5. Well done to you both. Let the smiles begin! :yahoo:
  6. I use this car every day. My mind is on work when I get into the works car park. A couple of times I've come back to an almost flat battery - this is real enough for me.
  7. .... and cracked it!! :yahoo: Removed the Relay (which somehow was trying to make it work the other way around?) and spliced as recommended. Just going to make it all permanent now and will supply and alternative diagram on my website in due course. Thanks Chris.
  8. 0v at L (Ign On - supplied by separate Relay) makes 1 have 0v 12v at L (Ign Off - supplied by separate Relay) makes 1 have 12v Lights OFF: If I Earth 1, Buzzer Operates. If I connect 1 to 12v Buzzer Operates. Lights ON: If I Earth 1, Buzzer Operates (This is what I want, but it's not a switching/switchable circuit). If I connect 1 to 12v Buzzer Silent. ????????? Now having a ponder on what Chris (youngsterS3) has said......
  9. Thanks for the recommendation Lee but I really am no Electrician. OK the diagrams on my website (which I hasten to add are for my car) work a treat with regards to the Lights On Warning Buzzer. This however works only for the Headlights. I too have nearly been left with a flat battery a couple of times due to leaving the Sidelights on! OK simples I thought. I'll re-wire it so that the Buzzer operates when the sidelights are on. I just cannot get this to work properly though. I think this worked (by fluke) before because the Headlight wire that I used went to earth - The Sidelights don't work this way. OK. I have a Relay in play so the this circuit only works when the Ignition is off. ie Power isn't present with Ign On. I attached the wiring diagram that was supplied with the Relay - Can anyone help???

    Advance And Retard

I run 10 Degrees with a 32/36 Webber & Std Cam. I did try backing it down to 8 Degrees a few weeks ago, but all that did was make it pop back through the exhaust.
  11. Ooops! I guess that why I'm in The Phukawi Tribe! Clearly I have no idea where I'm going and I'd advise against (as some of you already know) anyone trying to follow me. OK - It's the A1 for me. Hoping to get to Newark for 9'ish. Looking forward to seeing eveyone. Let's see now A1... Scotch Corner... Edinbur............
  12. I normally stop at Tibshelf Services on the way down. Probably will be there around 08:30 Looks like it's going to be a good weekend.
  13. Hi, Sorry - Forgot to reply. It's called DURALAC ANTI CORROSIVE JOINTING COMPOUND HTH
  14. Hi Steve, I used something for all my Pop Rivets etc. Can't say I used it for actual metal to metal though - Ooooer! Can't remember what it's called but I still have the tin in the garage - I'll have a look and let you know this evening.

    Relays And Lights

AFAIK the VG Loom was designed at a point in time where the stalks would take the current for Lights etc. As time went on though, the stalks became lighter (were designed lighter) with regards to the current levels that they could carry. Hence the need these days for relays. Especially when the current levels for lighting has also increased eg. H4s instead of sealed beams. If you can get to Newark this coming weekend come and talk with m or any one of us. If not, there's plenty of Auto Electrical suppliers on 'tinternet. There's links on here and on my website. Premier Electrics are good and so are CBS to name only two. HTH

    Relays And Lights

Hi Stevie, I have the VG Loom. You don't need relays for Indicators/Hazards, but you will for other things like Headlights, Horns & Fans. There are various wiring diagrams on my Website which may help. None of which are definitive solutions, but nevertheless, have all worked for me. Good Luck and don't despair. Just take one circuit at a time and check thouroughly before moving onto the next.
  17. Araldite will seal it. Or you could use a rubber seal - such as an oil filter seal.

    Ball Joint

Hi chenzo, You need to stop it from spinning obviously. Can you get a clamp on it? Either from the top (the thread) to underneath the joint, or get a lever in somehow to wedge it tight. This may help it keep still while you either tighten it up or get the nut off. Use some WD40 on the thread and leave it to soak. If you take the nut off it'd be best to use a new one as Nylocs should only be used once. HTH.

    I'm A Grandad

    Congratulations to all Grandad!
  20. I'm sure I replied to this, but it must've got lost somewhere. Option 3 for me please (I assume this includes the camber adjusters and bronze lined spherical joints?) This'll be a winter job for me so no rush. Many Thanks...

    I Phone 3g

You should have been supplied with a white cable. One end goes into the phone and the other goes into a spare USB port on your PC. Either sync with what the PC suggests or use iTunes. HTH
  22. Hi Steve, I've tried to PM you. Is your Inbox full??? Regards...
  23. Hi Joel, If you can't get one here, I think Uncle Henry still does them and IIRC they're not too expensive either.
  24. Hi Sharky, I have both! I bought an Amp & Speakers from Maplins and have mounted the Amp behind the passenger seat. This feeds off to the two speakers mounted on top of the boot, as I just couldn't find a suitable spot under the dash for them (which would've been the best location). Power is supplied fused from the battery of course and my iPod plugs into a socket on the dash - voilla! Now then - I'm now on my third set of speakers (current ones are 6 inch 450w) but even these are feeling the strain. Basically if you're tootling along at 40mph they're OK, but much above that and I resort to earbuds or whatever (I was once overtaken by a Caterham on a mission and he had full cans on!) as the volume simply has to be pumped up to 'really loud' and even then you struggle to hear them! I feel that some vents in the rear bulkhead would really help the Bass, but I haven't got around to this to date. They're good company though in some situations. I like them warbling away at shows and they're great in town. HTH
  25. Hi Tim, OK. No rush for me as it'll probably be a winter job. Let me (us) know how you get on with the 'turning'. When you have a set of top wishbones only ready to post out, send me a PM and I'll get some beer tokens off to you. Many Thanks for this... Much appreciated.
