  1. I still haven't figured out my Superspec electrics but I think it might have 2 different relays. Certainly when my indicators failed because the relay got soaking wet, my hazards still worked perfectly. Does this mean the hazards must have a separate relay ? Or is there another explanation ? If so the problem might be a failed hazard relay. (And don't bother asking me where the relay is, I have no idea
  2. This map has been uploaded before and I found it invaluable on my first visit. I guess it doesn't do any harm to post it again Just be aware that the road past the Warwick Centre to the campsite (marked in Blue to 'B') is closed during Show hours and you have to go around the top of the map to get to the camp site. Last year the actual Club Stand was in the bottom left of our 'pitch' and the entrance was top left. Not sure if it will be the same this year ?
  3. I need to apologise for that. Realised too late that I am using a bulb as my auxiliary warning light (can't see the one in the dash) which does need a diode and that an LED is already a diode (the clue is in the name ) so adding one is pointless. Bring it to Stoneleigh and I'll buy it off you as a spare.
  4. OK, that makes sense. I think
  5. OK, so in that case you need a resistor in series with the LED to make it look like a bulb and then a resistor in parallel in case the LED fails
  6. This is interesting stuff, but can I just clarify this for my own education ? As I understood it the resistor is only there in case the warning bulb fails ? Normally the circuit through the bulb is enough to excite the alternator so the resistor only come into play if the bulb goes open-circuit ?
  7. Just had a nice surprise. Check out the Facebook page for Doddington Hall at https://www.facebook...poweratthehall. I'm second one down the line. I've added a note about the club to see if we can get any more members I think we call that a success .
  8. Yes, I just disconnected the female spade alternator feed wire from the warning light and plugged that into the diode and plugged the female spade terminal on the diode directly onto the warning light.

    Brake Lights

Same thing happened to me, see http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/brake-lights.html I assume you have checked all the fuses ? As you know the Superspec wiring diagram is not overly helpful, but I doubt the brake lights and fuel pump are related. Again, what I have managed to figure out as regards the wiring is at: http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-relays_22.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-fuses.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-services.html If you have any more information you can offer it will be gratefully received. BTW, I regularly drive by Corby in my Superspec on my way to see the grandchildren, so if you want me to drop by just PM me. Always love discussing Superspecs
  10. Not a resistor, a diode. I use these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Durite-In-Line-Diode-with-6-3mm-Blade-Spade-Terminals-10amp-12-24v-DC-/400536132610?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item5d41d05c02
  11. Might be teaching grandmother to suck eggs but as I understand it, the logic works like this: One side of the Warning light is 12V+ ignition switched, the other side is connected to the alternator output. So when the ignition is switched on the warning light goes on as the alternator output is nominally 0V. Once the engine starts that small current flow is used to excite the alternator (unless you have a self-exciting one) so that it starts to output a voltage. If the alternator produces 12V+ it would then balance the 2 inputs to the light so it would extinguish. Unfortunately, as you have proven, your alternator will actually produce 14V+ so that results in a -2V+ differential voltage across the light, which will cause it to stay illuminated, either dimly or fully on depending on the type of light. So as previously stated you need to put a diode into the circuit between the alternator and the warning light so it will only illuminate if there is a +ve voltage differential.
  12. Well, seven of us went to the "Horsepower at the Hall" at Doddington for the morning. For me it was about an hour each way on the country lanes. Superb run although the crosswind was a bit punchy and I had a couple of 'moments'.
  13. A good day today at Doddington Hall. The weather was fine although the wind was pretty brutal. I forgot to organise that Turnout was good, I reckon about 200 cars in total. And they varied from the usual run of the mill up to a few American muscle cars, a couple of Ferraris and even a Mclaren. And a very good turn out of Hoods of course. Seven of use all lined up. The organiser is hoping this will become a monthly event during the summer, 1st Saturday of every month. It remains to be seen what happens when the initial rush of enthusiasm wears off, but still well worth another visit. Thanks to all who came and supported it,
  14. Just a reminder for everyone. The next Lincolnshire meet is on next Saturday (7th Mar) at Doddington Hall, Lincoln (LN6 4RU) ('Horsepower at the Hall') from 09:00-12:00. And I guess we will probably go to the Woodcocks pub (LN1 2BE) afterwards After a slight hiccup in February it also looks as though I am recovering my almost unbroken record of good weather. Fingers crossed. This is shaping up to be a huge event, the Facebook page reckons there will be 350 visitors, with the majority bringing a car. As such Richard and I are going to aim to get there close to opening time so we can get a decent pitch. And so we can arrive in convoy we will rendezvous at the Damons Motel Car Park (LN6 3SE, Junction of A46 & B1190) at 09:00. If anyone cares to join us please let me know so we can hang on a few minutes if you get stuck in traffic. Otherwise see you there, Cheers Al

    In A Spin

I lasted about 2 months. Then half way around a corner I accelerated sharply tried to get her to drift a bit. Result - she departed straight into the hedge Damage limited to number plate, offside mudguard and my pride. However, as iank said, I think you have to have that first crash/spin to get it out of your system, then you know there are limits and drive with much more care afterwards. You just have to hope you escape relatively unscathed as many of us seem to have done.
  16. I had intermittent indicator failure for weeks, until I realised the flasher unit was directly beneath the mearside wiper hole in the scuttle. Wrapped it in a poly bag. Problems carried on until I realised that I was getting condensation inside the bag. So finally, just moved it and problem solved. Probably should have done that first time.
  17. Phil: How about New Lodge Farm ? (http://www.newlodgefarm.com/) We know it well from the Stilton Cheese run and location is good. Not the cheapest around (£20/caravan £15/tent) but it has all the facilities we would need. I guess we wouldn't have the place to ourselves but it was a huge site and maybe they would be open to us blocking off a corner
  18. Could it be adapted to cure the fuel gauge reading backwards ?
  19. I think most of us have already seen these videos as well.
  20. OK, thanks everyone, that's given me plenty to go on.
  21. I've been using a cordless B&D drill for years, but am getting sick of the battery going flat at a crucial moment, the drill slipping in the keyless chuck when drilling holes in stainless steel and the lack of speed control. So time to upgrade !! Tried to do some comparisons on Amazon but there are just too many and a lack of specific detail. What I am after is: Multi-Speed Corded Keyed Chuck (Can you retrofit a keyed chuck to a keyless chuck drill?) Hammer ? Small as possible to get into awkward places. Anyone any recommendations ? Cheers Al
  22. "Horsepower at the Hall" car meet
  23. As hinted at in the February post, the next Lincolnshire meeting will be on Saturday 7th March 'oop North' at a new venue, Doddington Hall, near Lincoln. A new car show is starting there so we felt we should help it kick off. As usual please indicate attendance and I will up date this post. So far it's: Me Richard (Richard7) Ian (barney7) Nigel & Helen (niduncan) Mick (mowerman) Andrew (Ozz) It's very close to Richard so I am delegating the detailed organising to him , so he will provide further details. Cheers Al
