  1. I've no idea, I am not an expert on how this site works. Normally I get a notification flag at the top of the screen and a separate e-mail telling me someone has sent me a PM. I'll e-mail you directly. Anyone else know what the problem might be ?
  2. Yes I got it. Did you get my 2 replies ?
  3. If it is a Superspec I have identified 35 owners who are current on this forum so you will have plenty of help. The Superspec has it's own special problems and we can discuss them. As a start you might want to read my blog (in the signature line) that details everything I have done with my Superspec over the last 15 months. Also I will be happy to come and take a look and bring mine so you can compare, as I am only about an hour north of you, but I can't do it till January as I am out of the country for Xmas. Feel free to PM me with any detailed questions. Al
  4. Thanks to Richard and Nigel (and Helen) for a very pleasant Sunday Lunch. A very select but august group. My drive up was great, if a bit chilly, 1:20 hr through the lanes of Lincolnshire. Only downside was that the car got absolutely filthy. On the way back I caught a rain shower for the last 5 miles. But it was light enough that I was protected if I stayed above 30 mph, so didn't need to put the top up, but heavy enough to wash all the mud from the car. A win-win situation :)
  5. Final reminder. Weather looking reasonable (again ), so I shall wrap up warm and take the opportunity of giving the car a decent run. At the moment it is going to be a very select meeting !!
  6. I do find I have to wash the car more often though
  7. The organisers have just issued the details and the application form for next year's run on Sunday 26th April 2015. It's a great drive and we all enjoyed the 2014 run. My application is already in the post. You can download the details from here and the Entry Form from here £2.00/car + £2.50/person, all goes to charity (Air Ambulance) I suggest you get in early as they are limiting the entries to 350. May sound a lot but they were over-subscribed last year.
  8. Should have got someone to proof read it Sunday the 16th November. Original message edited. Thanks Al
  9. After a Southerly meeting (Corby Glen Sheep Fair) and a Centre meeting (Newark, Muskham Ferry) it's time to go 'oop North' again. We had a good meeting a few months ago at the Woodcocks Pub at Saxilby (Burton Lane End, Lincoln LN1 2BE) so I think we will revisit it. And again I am aiming for Sunday Lunch so families can come as well. Hoods (Mazda for Mick) are optional, although I shall be bringing mine if it isn't raining So let's aim for 12:00 start on Sunday 16th, so far I have positives from: Me Nigel (niduncan) Richard (richard7) Cheers Al
  10. Same story for me. Ordered a rear view mirror, delivery firm failed so CBS gave me one at Donnington. Good lads.

    Superspec Tacho

Mine works perfectly, although I also have an over-reading speedo and can't see the lights.
  12. Yes, cracking day, lots to see and perfect weather again (It can't last ). Finished up with 5 hoods and Mick's new Mazda, plus about another 40 classic cars, not bad for a tiny village. And a near perfect overflight by the BBMF Dakota, I think he lined up on my car ). So many thanks to all who supported it. Al.
  13. Looks like I might have cracked the weather yet again Won't be warm but no rain. I am going to rock up about 09:45 to be in position for the start, but come along whenever you want. Still showing just 4 so far (+Kerry as a possible), anyone else going to come ?
  14. Is the one in Cumbria advertised anywhere ? EBay Item #121448198585 looks to be worth a punt

    Super Spec

Probably, as unlike a 2b, where the 'bits' are off a donor car, everything on a Superspec, apart from a reconditioned rear axle, was brand new at build, so the engine/gearbox/brakes... will ONLY have done the mileage shown on the car. Still comes with its own Superspec-specific problems though (ride height, clutch rattle, suspension, cooling...) Check my blog (in the signature) to see what I have done over the last 14 months and you will see what might need doing.
  16. Now the National Meet is over, it's time to look forward to next Sunday (5th Oct) for the Lincolnshire October meet. Here's hoping the weather remains nice. Only got 5 'positives so far but as usual all are welcome on the day. The organiser of the Castle Bytham Sheep Fair has confirmed we will be parking on the grass around the War Memorial. The Sheep Fair runs from 10:00 till 16:00 but we will have free access to arrive and leave when we wish. Here is a map of the area with a blow-up of the parking area. The Red Star is the war memorial. Whichever direction you arrive from you need to turn into the High Street leading to the village (NOT Tanners Lane) next to the fun fair. From the A1 it's a 30 deg left turn, from Bourne it is a 150 deg right turn. You will see all the cars on your right. After 100yds or so you will see a dropped pavement to allow you entry to the grass area, park where you feel like. Any questions let me know. Al
  17. My thanks as well to the Committee, particularly Phil, for organising such a cracking event. It's going from strength to strength and I am sure will be even better/bigger next year. Get it in your diary. And seriously consider camping over, it makes a tremendous difference. BTW if anyone finds a set of noise cancelling headphones in a case during the clean up, they are mine. I found lots more squeaks and rattles on the way home
  18. I can't compare it with a standard 2B (I suspect the 2B would win in a drag race) as I have only ever driven my Superspec (which I LOVE), but like all kit cars, the engine came from a car that weighs twice as much as the Superspec (a Rover 420 in this case) so it has plenty of power. There are 3 major issues with Superspecs. The first is the sump clearance, which as you can see from this thread is easily fixed, although make sure yours has the remote oil filter mod fitted. The second is the mating of the engine and gearbox. This required a home-brewed spigot or something to be manufactured and unfortunately with many of them the tolerances were a bit loose. So many Superspecs, including mine, rattle like a bunch of bolts in a tin can when you in neutral with the engine running. So check that, although mine has been doing it since 2008 and 9000 miles so I am living with it. And the final one is the clutch cable, where the mounting at the pedal end is a very poor design and keeps snapping. You might want to read my blog (see signature) which describes in detail all the work I have done on my Superspec over the last year since I bought her. It will highlight all the issues you may want to check when you do a test run. BTW, I hope you aren't considering E-Bay Item 221556664294. That doesn't look like a Superspec to me. Any other questions, I have identified 35 Superspec owners within the Club who can advise you. Cheers Al
  19. Just a reminder that the Lincolnshire Meeting for October is at the Corby Glen Sheep Fair (http://www.sheepfair.co.uk/) on Sunday October 5th. The organiser has confirmed the cars will be parked just at the edge of the village allowing us easy access for arrival and departure. Interestingly he says arrive early as they are expecting a lot of cars. Seems odd as there were only 5 there last year (including me). But I would suggest you arrive and depart when you feel like. Full details nearer the date, but can I get an idea of numbers please to pass to the organiser. So far it's Me Richard (Richard7) Kerry Nigel (niduncan) Swan Mick (Mowerman) (Possible) Cheers Al
  20. Sounds very sensible. In fact I think I examined that last time I saw Flossie. I'll add it to my ToDo list.
  21. Title says it all. I drove down to London last week and wore noise-cancelling headphones under my Beenie hat so I could listen to a podcast over the road/engine/wind noise. My brother reckoned I was breaking the law. Anyone know ?
  22. This actually comes under the heading of "stating the bleeding obvious" (in fact Ian might recall us discussing it at Stoneleigh), but thought I would share it anyway in case anyone else gets caught. The exhaust on my Superspec regularly starts blowing at the manifold/exhaust join and I had figured out it was because there was no central support so that all the engine vibration/movement was transmitted through the pipe and straining the joint. I happened to be visiting Richard Stewart last week to pick up some spare parts and talked to him about it. He pointed out that the rear exhaust mounting was direct from exhaust to chassis whereas it should be rubber mounted. So a quick change: BEFORE AFTER It remains to be seen if the next exhaust fix lasts any longer but what I wasn't expecting was the DRAMATIC decrease in the noise level. The car almost whispers along now compared with how she used to be. I assume the car was acting as a sounding board before the change. As I said, probably obvious to all of you, but it wasn't to me or the previous owner
  23. Tighten it up. I wound mine up 1" and that resulted in a 1" ride in sump clearance. Result: No more grounding
  24. Here is the view of the U-Turn from my car. Scary http://youtu.be/w0KY3njAA74
