    Tool Kit

See http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/one-of-major-projects-was-to-improve.html Totally over the top and I will admit be to being rather anal-retentive about it. But my logic is that if I carry all this kit I will never need to use it. The day you leave the house without something is when you need it.
  2. I registered but won't now be back from holiday. Enjoy !!
  3. Never. After a year and 2000 miles I still feel like that
  4. Just as a followup now my problem has been fixed. Contrary to my initial understanding the UJ was NOT welded to the steering shaft and the steering shaft WAS splined. My problem was simply worn splines and an inability to tighten the UJ bolts enough with 'ordinary' spanners. Once the splines were renovated a bit with a triangular file and the bolts were done up with an enormous wrench, steering is now rock solid.
  5. I ordered a set of hinges from them 6 weeks ago but gave up after a month of waiting. They might have them in by now though.
  6. After the successful 'Southern' meeting in June at the Castle Bytham Midsummer Fair it's time to have a 'Central' one again, so the next meeting will be another Sunday Pub Lunch on the 27 July probably at the Muskham Ferry in Newark (NG23 6HB) where we had our inaugural meeting. So far I have Ian & Carole (Ian & Carole) Richard (richard7) Tom (toms2b) Nigel & Helen (niduncan) Peter & Anne (Peter Lee) (depending on state of car) Mick & Stella (mowerman) Unfortunately I won't be able to join you for this one as after almost 10 months enforced stay in the UK I have decided to wrench my life back from the NHS appointment system and am going on a long overdue (and long) holiday But I will be back in plenty of time for Donington. I will try and lay on the weather again. Anyone else who would like to attend please let me know so we can warn the pub on probable numbers. Cheers Al
  7. My thermostatic switch on the radiator had failed but the general advice on here was not to try and replace it as getting it sealed was a nightmare and to fix an adjustable one. Like 'Larkingabout' I struggled to get the hose back on with the probe inside, so as a temporary fix I just clamped it to the metal top hose. As it turned out it actually works rather well so have left it like that
  8. No I had you. Coincidentally It's Jon who has the unknown gearbox. Any idea how many were issued ? I am getting various answers.
  9. Thanks John I had forgotten I posted this. Basically I have had replies from 18 Superspec owners with all their details. I know Pete the Dog has one but he hasn't told me which engine. The engine breakdown is: 12 owners still have the Rover 2.0L 'T' + MT75 (although 1 has the Turbo engine). 3 owners use the Zetec engine, 1 with a Type 9, 1 with an MT75 and one unknown 2 owners use a Pinto and a Type 9 1 owner has a Galaxy 2.3 !! I'll message each of you with the details so you know who to ask Superspec-specific questions. Al
  10. Whilst not wishing to 'pull rank', as an Area Secretary I find it handy to be able to edit my original post regarding a meeting to add to the list of attendees as the responses arrive. That would mean I would have to vote for '30 days' or 'Unlimited' whereas I can actually see the logic of a much shorter time. Would it be possible to have a different set of rules for the Event Notification area of the forum or is that not possible ?
  11. Oxford Blue is the official name. I asked for that when I bought a replacement wing and it was a perfect match.
  12. Bearing in mind that every part is brand new (Apart from the reconditioned rear axle), it appears to been professionally built, has the turbocharger and it has done only 150 miles I actually think that is a fair price. Wonder why it has sat for 2 years doing nothing ?
  13. Cracking day, thanks to everyone who supported it, organisers were very pleased and as usual the cars were hugely popular with the visitors. Even mixed with the American Civil War Al.
  14. You probably know already, but a nice route is Oakham - Cottesmore - Greetham (mind the 'gentle' speed bumps) - Stetton - Clipsham - Castle Bytham, brings you up nicely to the entry point. It's how I always travel back from Rutland Water, avoids the A1. I'll make sure I am at the barrier about 10:30
  15. Shame, won't seem the same without you . Thanks for letting me know though, see you next meeting. Al
  16. Great, thanks. One for the cars one for lunch
  17. Sounds like a good idea. Need to find a splined shaft from somewhere. I guess an Escort steering column ?
  18. Interesting, maybe a design fault ? Odd. I thought the standard steering column on a Superspec had a plain end, not splined, hence the need for a weld in addition to the bolt. Got that from Richard Stewart.
  19. Good idea. The bolt I pulled out had bent so I replaced it anyway but I will get a proper replacement for it. I guess the pinch bolt on the steering column end is a bit academic as the UV joint is welded to the shaft (although I guess the weld may have failed).
  20. I took the whole rack out and tested it on the bench. So the clamps are now VERY tight when I put them back The UV joint is worn, you can see very slight movement if you hold one side and twist the other, but now I have everything back together the steering is looking quite good. Not that much play and I think the 'clunk' is higher up the steering column. Will be checking that tomorrow.
  21. Good As a matter of interest does anyone attending have access to a RHOCar banner we could spread on the grass behind the cars ?
  22. OK, joining instructions for Castle Bytham Fair this Sunday The centre of the village will be closed by 4 gates. You need to get to Gate D (For the satnav: 10 Station Road, Castle Bytham, NG33 4SB) where a marshal (or me) will let you in and we will be parked on the hill shown by the blue rectangle. Anyone in a tintop, just use the main car park. Fair opens at 09:00 but no need to get there that early, although I will probably get my car there by then. Just arrive as early as is comfortable. I suggest we all meet up at 12:00 in the field off St Martins lane where the Beer/BBQ tents are situated, for a chat. By all means bring a picnic. Although the fair doesn't really finish till 16:00 there is no problem leaving early. One of us can open the barrier to let you out. Questions ? Fingers crossed for the weather.as I try for a hat-trick Al
  23. Had exactly the same in my Superspec. And Bob is right, I was overfilling it. I had been advised to fill it until the bleed valve on the tube that runs across the top of the engine started spouting. Once I ignored that advice and stopped topping it up and just accepted the expansion bottle is empty when the engine is cold, the problem went away. That's assuming it doesn't overheat ?
