  1. Bearing in mind that every part is brand new (Apart from the reconditioned rear axle), it appears to been professionally built, has the turbocharger and it has done only 150 miles I actually think that is a fair price. Wonder why it has sat for 2 years doing nothing ?
  2. Cracking day, thanks to everyone who supported it, organisers were very pleased and as usual the cars were hugely popular with the visitors. Even mixed with the American Civil War Al.
  3. You probably know already, but a nice route is Oakham - Cottesmore - Greetham (mind the 'gentle' speed bumps) - Stetton - Clipsham - Castle Bytham, brings you up nicely to the entry point. It's how I always travel back from Rutland Water, avoids the A1. I'll make sure I am at the barrier about 10:30
  4. Shame, won't seem the same without you . Thanks for letting me know though, see you next meeting. Al
  5. Great, thanks. One for the cars one for lunch
  6. Sounds like a good idea. Need to find a splined shaft from somewhere. I guess an Escort steering column ?
  7. Interesting, maybe a design fault ? Odd. I thought the standard steering column on a Superspec had a plain end, not splined, hence the need for a weld in addition to the bolt. Got that from Richard Stewart.
  8. Good idea. The bolt I pulled out had bent so I replaced it anyway but I will get a proper replacement for it. I guess the pinch bolt on the steering column end is a bit academic as the UV joint is welded to the shaft (although I guess the weld may have failed).
  9. I took the whole rack out and tested it on the bench. So the clamps are now VERY tight when I put them back The UV joint is worn, you can see very slight movement if you hold one side and twist the other, but now I have everything back together the steering is looking quite good. Not that much play and I think the 'clunk' is higher up the steering column. Will be checking that tomorrow.
  10. Good As a matter of interest does anyone attending have access to a RHOCar banner we could spread on the grass behind the cars ?
  11. OK, joining instructions for Castle Bytham Fair this Sunday The centre of the village will be closed by 4 gates. You need to get to Gate D (For the satnav: 10 Station Road, Castle Bytham, NG33 4SB) where a marshal (or me) will let you in and we will be parked on the hill shown by the blue rectangle. Anyone in a tintop, just use the main car park. Fair opens at 09:00 but no need to get there that early, although I will probably get my car there by then. Just arrive as early as is comfortable. I suggest we all meet up at 12:00 in the field off St Martins lane where the Beer/BBQ tents are situated, for a chat. By all means bring a picnic. Although the fair doesn't really finish till 16:00 there is no problem leaving early. One of us can open the barrier to let you out. Questions ? Fingers crossed for the weather.as I try for a hat-trick Al
  12. Had exactly the same in my Superspec. And Bob is right, I was overfilling it. I had been advised to fill it until the bleed valve on the tube that runs across the top of the engine started spouting. Once I ignored that advice and stopped topping it up and just accepted the expansion bottle is empty when the engine is cold, the problem went away. That's assuming it doesn't overheat ?
  13. Did it Quite pleased with myself as I had never tackled anything like that before. Bad news is that there was nothing wrong it . No play in the steering box at all. So put it all back together again. Good exercise though and good for my morale. I now think it is the lower UV joint. Unfortunately that is actually welded to the steering column so although I have a spare I cannot swap it over. Have to get an expert to do it. (Now have a spare Superspec steering rack if anyone needs one)
  14. Any more for this before I pass the numbers to the organisers ? So far I have me Mick (mowerman) (Car repaired yet Mick ?) Nigel (niduncan) Kerry (kerry) Richard (Richard7) Matthew (maw) Chris (tractor) Simon (simonp73) - Possible I'll send full details later this week. Al
  15. Not something you would want to show your grandchildren
  16. I wonder if it has the clutch rattle Have you got a link ? Can't see it at the moment.
  17. Not sure if it's any help but I was in a similar position to you with a car built by someone else and no information on the wiring, so I analysed as much as I could and put the results in my blog. Might be worth reading: http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-relays_22.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-fuses.html http://the-superspec-journey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/the-electrics-project-services.html As you will see from the pictures the main electrical panel with the fuses and relays is in the passenger footwell. 18. Sorry, car not safe at the moment, steering problems. Have a good run !!
  19. I know we haven't had the June meeting yet, but this is just an advance notice for the diaries. As you may have seen from other posts the problems with Barkston Heath have been solved so the track days are back on. Next one is 12/13 July so I suggest we have a get together there, probably on the Saturday. You don't have to race, although I would highly recommend it, it was the first thing I did with my Superspec and it was great fun. It isn't a full blown race track, so you don't go all that fast, but lots of tight corners to throw the car round. And they finish off with a 1/4 mile sprint. If you do race it's £50 per day but big discounts if you are new or bring a friend who is new. Barbeque will be switched on so you can bring and cook your own food. free camping Friday and Saturday. As usual, all are welcome. More details nearer the day or you can e-mail hoody.bill@ntlworld.com with any specific questions.
  20. Good, I'm getting the right one then I guess this is something I can tackle myself (as a non-engineer) ? Disconnect the track rods and the steering column and then it's just the 2 U-bolts ? Then put the new one in and check the tracking ?
  21. I think you are right, I just bought a reconditioned Escort rack off E-Bay after checking the dimensions with the seller and they appear identical (50" from end-to-end, 14.5" between gaiters on main rack and 12" track rod.)
  22. I could do with knowing as well. My steering is suddenly making a very respectable 'clunk' when the steering wheel is moved. Bottom UV joint looks OK, so suspect it is the steering rack. Anyone know ?
  23. I did a lovely 30 mile run as well early afternoon to test out some modifications AND opened a bottle of red And I didn't get all 4 wheels off the ground, I think I am getting too old for doing that !!
  24. It's a Rover ECU, but seems logical it might need the same, that would explain it..
