Right, the +Create option has been fixed (you probably saw me adding myself a couple of times while we figured it out). So you can use that to include your location. Now that it is renamed Community Map we have decided to follow that ethos and open it up to Community Users as well as Club Members. So if any Community Users want to get involved with other owners in their local area then please post your location. The relevant Area Secretary will then be able to include you in his list for local meets (Although expect him to nag you to join the Club ).

Some of you will have noted that the Member Map recently disappeared. It appears that a recent software update broke it (Those of you with iPhones will be used to this ). It is now back, although it is now called Community Map. As before it can be accessed from the blue bar on the main screen. There is a minor problem in that the + Create > Community Map Marker (top right of the main screen) is not working. But if you actually go the map there is an option to add your location and that seems to work. I am discussing the problem with the author so hopefully I can get it fixed. Of the 380 current members we have only 130 markers and many of those members have lapsed (I will be deleting them over the next few weeks). So I encourage you to add your location. Apart from helping the Area Secretaries to find out who is in their area you might find people near you who can help with any problems. Al

Hi everyone I guess we would expect that the winter months would not set the world on fire and not surprisingly October was a fairly disappointing month. Of the 23 members whose subscription expired, only 12 renewed, with a 11 lapsing. But we did manage to pick up 8 new members (and one returning member whose membership had lapsed a couple of years ago). So overall we went down by only 2 to 387. So here are the new members, following the usual format with their forum username, with their actual first name in brackets if it isn't obvious, and their location. This month I have also added the username of their Area Secretary. Please use the message system (The envelope icon in the top right corner of the screen) if you would like to see if they are interested in a meet or if you want to discuss anything with the area sec. Airlock is a good suggestion. I actually got an airlock once that went to the top of the system, unfortunately that is where the water pump is located (Ridiculous Rover design) and it covered the pump so I lost all circulation and experienced similar symptoms to you. You need to figure out where the highest point is and try and bleed it. One trick is to jack up the front of the car so the top of the radiator is definately the highest point.

No, that's correct. otherwise the light would be on permanently (and drain your battery). I haven't come across an alternator that gets a 12V direct from the ignition, but the bottom line is that the 'light' terminal is either not coming up to 14V or that wire between the terminal and the light is somehow permanatly earthed. If you remove the wire from that terminal I would expect the light to stay off when you switch the ignition on. If it comes on you have a short to earth somewhere along the wire. While it is off you can check what happens on the terminal. If it doesn't jump to 14V when you start the engine but the battery does go to 14V then there is an internal fault in the alternator.

Where is the sensor switch for the radiator fan ? Top hose, Bottom hose, Radiator ..... ?

When you turn on the ignition the warning light should have 12V on one side from the battery and the other side should be connected to the alternator at 0V, so it lights up. When you start the engine and the alternator kicks in then other both sides should go up to 14V so the light goes out. You would get these symptoms if the light wasn't properly connected to the alternator and was actually connected to earth instead. However, the current flowing through the light is used to actually excite the alternator into life, so that would indicate it is connected (unless you have a newer alternator that will self excite). Anyway, you need to check the wire from one side of the light to the alternator and find out why it isn't going up to 14V when the alternator kicks in.

Plenty to see and do. and lots of cars of all shapes and sizes, I didn't count them but there was hardly any spaces left when they had all arrived. As usual in October we are off to the Corby Glen Sheep Fair (NG33 4NS - www.sheepfair.co.uk) this Sunday (9th October). For those that have not been before, this is a traditional small village fete with all the usual stalls, entertainment, food and drink, dog show, craft shows, morris dancing, car display..... and this is the 784th one so they must be doing something right. Unlike other shows the organisers are very relaxed about the car display and although the Fair is open from 10:00-16:00 they are happy for us to arrive whenever we like and leave whenever we like. I normally park up about 09:30 and reserve some spaces (I live only 1 mile away so it isn't difficult). I 'think' I've sorted out the weather so it should be dry We park next to the war memorial at the West end of the villae. This is the approach route, it's the only bit with a dropped kerb. Hopefully it will not have escaped everyone’s notice that at the last AGM we failed to get a volunteer to be the Events Secretary. This was primarily seen as too large a responsibility for one person so it was agreed we would change the post to be a team leader with other part-time volunteers. Unfortunately we still don’t have a volunteer to take over. Also you will all have seen that Neil Hammond intends to stand down as Magazine Editor next year after a few years of filling the post. So far no-one has come forward to fill that post either. If these posts remain unfilled then we will lose our quarterly magazine, something that I believe sets us apart from other clubs, and we won’t be able to have an annual Club Meet, or provide subsidised food and drink at other kit car shows. That would be a real shame. To help, I have written some Terms of Reference for all the posts on the Committee as well as the Area Secretaries. This will give you an idea of the duties of these posts and the time required. So please think seriously about helping the Club by volunteering for one of these posts (and get free membership).

When I was thinking of volunteering to be the Club Membership Secretary, I initially did not know what was involved and had to talk to my predecessor. As a result, I thought it might be useful to produce some Terms of Reference for the Club Committee Members and Area Secretaries so that any future volunteers could get an idea of what was involved and the time required. Another good day. Just about 45 min drive for me, first outing of the year for my padded jacket. We all went a bit early in case there was a queue and the small car park was full. Needn't have worried, only one other car beside us Had an extremely good (and free) tour of the RAF Digby museum. It actually lasted for 2:30hrs. The station was one of the sector HQ for 12 Group during World War II (The South of England was 11 Group so they got most of tthe action during the Battle of Britain) so we got to see the actual operations room where it was all controlled. Even though I spent 37 years in the RAF I still found it very informative and interesting. Highly recommended. That probably knocks it on the head for September, so our next meet will be the Corby Glen Sheep Fair on 9th October (https://www.sheepfair.co.uk/). See you there

Time to squeeze another meet in before we meet up at the Corby Glen Sheep Fair (9th October). As promised we will do this one on a Sunday (25th Sept) to cater for the workers Plan is to go to the RAF Digby Museum, just South East of Lincoln (LN4 3LH) and join the conducted tour at 11:00. Nice day out. An absolutely perfect day for driving, sun out, dry and just enough of a chill in the air to bring out the best in our engines. Enough cars turned up to make it interesting while still leaving room to park. We even managed 5 Robin Hoods And the cake was as good as ever.

A nice day out and a decent run for three of us. Just over 100 mile round trip for me, which I find perfect. Airfield was a bit quieter than usual, no sign of the Spitfire we normally see. Summer has definitly gone away though, a bit of a chill in the air.

A bit of a disappointing turnout at the End-of-Season Bash last weekend although all the participants had a good time. But in the East we don't have a season, we operate all year round So, seeing as the weather next week has suddenly come good, we are going to have a picnic at one of our favourite meeting places. Sywell Aerodrome in Nottinghamshire (NN6 0BN). A large free car park, a cafe if you don't want to self-cater, a museum, a static aircraft display and also a nice view of the operations on the airfileld. All welcome, 12:00 on Tuesday 13th Sept, bring a chair, or a rug. And don't forget the GBS Coffee & Cake on Sat 17th, weather lookin OK at this stage.

Not the best turnout I have had at the show, but a very pleasant day anyway. and our Club area is just about perfect, next to the river. Weather was just lovely, lots of special cars to see, and a final display by the BBMF Lancaster to round it off. Book early for next year
