  1. I've just had my first tax reminder and the form (and the website) says i need an MOT?! Is this right? Don't you get 3 years after first reg on a Q plate before you need an MOT?
  2. 4 years and this is your first post?! Wow, you either don't drive it much or you really know what you're doing Why are all the events in this country in the Midlands? I never get to anything unless I'm prepared to get up at 5am and do a minimum of 300 miles!!

yes, that's tonight's attempts - go in through the oil breather plate and try get a screwdriver down the edge and pull it away. Hmmm, that's a possibility - thanks...

No, still not off and am at a loss how to...I'm thinking of grinding it off and telling Tiger they owe me a new one for having such a stupid design!! Yeah, £7 cheapie, no brand name but works pretty well (but if you want to use it on your phone, needs to be Android and must support OTG. I had to use my son's Samsung as my Huawei doesn't do OTG).

Turns out that the Tiger windage tray has microns of clearance between itself and the walls of the sump. As I've tried to pull the sump off, the side of the tray has dug into the wall of the sump. Invested in a cheap endoscope and you can see it happening: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rX2Zj0vjRtD2hhqHKKbhGZm8QVkLMlFx/view?usp=drivesdk That sideways movement is what happens with a lever between sump and block and try levering downwards - looks like the tray is spring loaded! (Excuse the swearing in the video - I'm getting pretty hacked off)
  6. The summer edition of the club magazine has been posted to all members - please let me know if you don't receive it within the next week or so. I'm always interested in ideas for articles or even articles written for me Note that I am also looking for magazine cover photo's - see page 19 for the 'rules'. Hope you like it...

☺ I had thought of the endoscope thing but i assumed they were expensive - but just had a look and bought one for £7!! Will see if that helps at all...

Yup, tried that - and had my son in the car pressing the clutch pedal, in case something there was holding on to it.

It does have a windage tray and someone on the Tiger owners forum has replied to say they got their's stuck on that tray as well - looks like I may have to give it some welly - urrgghhh!
  10. The guy where you did the rolling road left it all loose?! I'd take it back to him and tell him to f*&^ing fix it! Is it a bike engine? Car engines don't normally need valves adjusting, do they? I've done the valves on my bike but they're locknut type, not shims. Shimmed valves are much more tricky - got to take off the camshafts and make sure you put them back together right - I wouldn't risk it if you're not experienced.

I've only got half a shield and its just on the top half of the bellhousing, so not in the way of the sump.

Sorry, should have said, got the Tiger ERA sump so just one piece and only has 10 bolts into the block, 5 per. side. Still can't get the damn thing off - its weird, i can now move it 10mm backwards and forwards but that's it. I can't see anything holding it back or front. I've had screwdrivers all the way in but you think you'd only need slight pressure for it to drop - I'm too worried about damaging something to put too much force into it. It feels like there is something inside caught on it but it's an unbaffled sump so there is nothing to even really catch on. Pic here of the sump just before i fitted it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y1SWkAcL4naRmWUL6
  13. 8 days!!! I had to wait 5 weeks!! 5 WEEKS!! That's it, I'm going to sue...
  14. I drove to my IVA almost exactly 1 year ago. The test centre was near Heathrow airport (Yeading) and one of the hottest days of the whole year for the whole country was recorded on that day at, yup, Heathrow - 36 degC!! I left at 6am and spent 2 hours in rush hour traffic, only just making it to my test on time (after having been stopped by the police for not having a number plate). Then I had to drive back...AND then I repeated the whole thing 3 days later for my re-test. Now, that is an almost literal baptism of fire!

It's a Zetec blacktop - the pickup bolts are inside the sump... Can anyone confirm that the blacktop only has bolts down the side (4 or 5 per. side) for the sump and none at either end? I can't see any and I don't remember there being any but just checking... EDIT: ok, don't bother, found a picture of the sump from my build - no end bolts.

Ive done that on the 2 sides but i can't get to the join that goes behind the flywheel at the front or the join hidden by the bellhousing at the rear. I've only got the car up on ramps at the front and axle stands at the back, so i haven't got enough space to lie underneath and pull on it. That also doesn't seem like a good idea anyway. ..

Thanks for the offer Bob but can't make Huntingdon and even if I could, I would want to take my kit, which is obviously tricky at the moment If I go the garotte method, it will have to be something solid as I need to push from one side of sump to the other, to get it started. I might just keep hitting it with a hammer...

I tried that when i had to get my front cycle wings off and it didn't really work but i might give it another go...

    Sump Removal

I used instant gasket on my sump (along with the standard rubber one) and i need to take the sump off to investigate a rattle, but i can't get the damn thing off. I've managed to break the gasket most of the way round but not at the front, where the sump goes behind the flywheel. Is there any chemical i can use to help dissolve the sealant stuff, which won't damage the engine internals? Or any other suggestions?
  20. Take it to Kwik-Fit - they wouldn't have noticed half of those Only kidding - good to know about those issues. And you've already had it welded? I would have been off the road for weeks...

    Newbie With 2B

Welcome - and excellent work with the rhyming title of your post
  22. When i was building, i kept reading about overheating issues so i specifically did not want to have any obstruction of the front grille, even just an inch or 2 of the plate. If you saw my car, you'd understand why vanity is not a problem i have :-)

    Led Wiring

Ugh, problem was just crap wiring ability on my part - all working now. Many thanks for all your suggestions...
  24. I'm no expert but I wouldn't want even a 'slight' leak of petrol Have you got a swirl pot? Might just be fuel starvation as the fuel level gets low.

    Front Wings

One of my original wings flew off at speed earlier this year - re-done recently, full details in my blog: https://zerolifebuild.blogspot.com/2018/03/underneath-arches-again.html
