  1. Don't like Tiff or VBH - Jodie Kidd would be good. Third member should be Tom Ford - writes for TG mag and is a great presenter (he used to do Fifth Gear). Strange that the article doesn't even suggest there will be others? Chris Evans is ok but he is too conservative - he'll never be prepared to say what everyone thinks which is what made JC so great. It'll just be a dull old car show...

    Drill Bits

Don't think my wood and masonry bits will be any good even if i sharpen them Never had to drill metal before...

    Drill Bits

    Ok, thanks all...

    Drill Bits

Ok, more shopping needed.... My 20 year old Halford specials are unlikely to do the job but man, are there a lot of choices. Any recommendations for what material to get (cobalt, titanium coated etc)? Any brand better than another? I'd rather not spend a fortune (how much is the best?) but i don't want cheap stuff either.

    Clamps

Sorry, i meant the clamps for holding body panels while glue dries. They're pretty cheap, i'll get both sizes.

    Clamps

There seem to be 2 sizes of clamp - do i need the 6" ones or are the mini 2" ones enough?

    Engine Ecus

I looked on the Emerald website - does flying loom just mean a load of wires not yet taped up and just needing connectors added on the ends? If so, what sort of connections - are they soldered, crimped? Is it something a novice like me could do or is it inadvisable?
  8. Just to be clear, those are one single piece - there is no extra bracket that brumster mentions. If that's needed, I'm in the same boat as you. I thought the whole caliper just bolted on to the hub, no? There seem to be enough bolt holes on the caliper to do that (i haven't got my kit yet, so i can't see what the hub looks like).
  9. I bought these cosworth calipers http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13593 and they are advertised as including carriers but they are not a separate item - they're forged into the body of the caliper (unless I've also got something wrong - my kit hasn't arrived yet), so you may not be able to buy separate carriers? I could be talking rubbish, of course...
  10. Continuing on my series of asking questions about ABSOLUTELY everything, front brakes next. While researching options other than refurbished Sierra calipers and disks from GBS (about £200), bloke at Rally Design suggested a Willwood pack they do for £320 - 4-pot shiny new calipers, supposed to be very good (although they would say that, of course). Up to now, I've managed to avoid paying more than i have to but the Willwoods do look good and shouldn't skimp on brakes, i guess? Opinions?

    Gbs Shocks

So did you get them from GBS? If so, do you know what model no. they are?

    Gbs Shocks

Yup, those are the ATRs and that is the price. But they also have a cheaper set for £400 on their website and i just assumed they were GAZ - no mention of brand name on the website.

    Gbs Shocks

Ah yes, i remember them showing me the workshop - i thought that was just for the higher spec ATR jobbies. Ok, no probs - I'll stick with the ones they make....

    Gbs Shocks

Sorry to ask on here but can't seem to log on to the GBS owners forum... Does anyone know what size/type/model no. of Gaz shocks are used on the GBS? The GBS website is, as for everything, useless for detail like that (probably because they don't want us to go and get the same parts cheaper ssomewhere else )

    Trestles

First build and need some trestles. All the ones I can find only quote a max load of 150-200 kg (not sure if that is per trestle or per pair) - is that enough for the chassis and up to rolling chassis? If so, any preference for wood, plastic or metal?

    Cube Fuel Pump

    Ok, thanks all...

    Cube Fuel Pump

GBS are offering a cube fuel pump for £45 but there are loads on the Bay for £12or so. I'm happy to pay £45 if the GBS one is any different to the cheap chinese ones - any one know if they are any good? Example below: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=171436731218&alt=web

    Caliper Painting

Ok, thanks all - so no need for a primer of any sort? What is etch primer for (i keep seeing it mentioned )?
  19. I've had a new pair of calipers delivered. They are lovely and shiny now but bare metal - should i paint them? I want to anyway but what is the process - some sort of primer/undercoat first? Do i have to strip it down or can i just mask off the rubber bits? Hammerite or special paint of some sort?
  20. Ok, thanks all...
  21. I thought I'd read that emission tests at IVA were not as strict as an MOT? I ask this because there is a thread on the GBS forum of owners struggling to get through the MOT - you have to fit a lambda sensor and get a special emissions map for the ECU which isn't quite sorted yet etc, etc. I'm not bothered about resale value...can i choose an age-related plate? For example, I'm getting a 'new' Zetec engine which could only have been built about 2004. Could i request an 04 plate, maybe?
  22. Reading the pinned thread about MOT emission tests, it would seem to me that having a Q plate will make the MOT a piece of cake. Even though I hope to qualify for a new plate, can I opt for a Q plate and ensure simple MOT tests in the future? Or is it not that simple?

    Gbs Rear Brakes

Included, according to that Rally Design link? So they are the right ones?
  24. Are these cosworth calipers the same as kit spares sell (well, i can't find them on the website now but I'm sure they do them): http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=13593 I assume they're ok - or is there a reasonable cheaper alternative?

    Fire Pit

My sister has one and they work really well because all the holes provide excellent air flow for the fire. Not sure if you could design a better firepit if you tried
