  1. What you get on your V5C will depend on which chicken entered the details into the system & whether they knew what they were doing or just agency & guessed.
  2. I suspect so, @DaveA76 you have 2 options really, either buy something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394433263160 & wire one into each side. Or do you know how many pins are on your flasher replay as you should be able to swap that out for a LED version.
  3. Put a jump lead from the engine to the negative on the battery, does that change anything, if it does as IanS says earth leads, if it doesn't it's either the starter or the switch. To test the starter remove the small lead that is coming from the switch attach a new wire to it & go straight to live, does the starter spin now or click, click it's the starter, spin it's the switch
  4. Nicely done, you'd have noticed a big difference from the Pinto boat anchor even without the turbo, but that will make it go even sweeter

Is it a chopped/shortened chassis? I thought you could re-body a Beetle without IVA if the chassis wasn't modified?

    Iva Test

The tank 'should' be full so that they can get correct weights, however I usually take them 1/2-3/4 full & never had an issue, as far as insurance, yes they can insure on the VIN number, go to one of the specialists, Adrian Flux, A-Plan, Graham Sykes they will understand your needs, if you get a chicken that doesn't understand ask to speak to a more senior one. It is quite fun driving down the motorway without number plates overtaking Police cars, it's the child in me. However a word of caution on doing it, you need to be 100% confident (or even more if it were mathematically possible) that your car is going to make it there without issue, I've only ever once took the risk & that was a re-test, all the other times I trailered down, remember if you have some unforeseen issue you're throwing away £450. With regards to the test being in your mum's name & you attending, I 'think' it depends on how you have filled in the forms, I once SVA'd a car for a friend, but on the forms I'm sure he was put down as the builder & owner, I was put down as the presenter, there was no issue, but TBH I would ring the kit car team at Swansea to ask, again you don't want to turn up there on the day, they refuse to test & you lose £450.
  7. They are great & convenient, better than a car & trailer, if you go 3.5T be very careful what you put on the back, our LT35 was 2T empty, by the time you have added 50L of fuel 50kgs, a 100kgs driver, a 100kgs co-pilot, plus your tools, you're down to 1250kgs which many cars will be over.
  8. Do you have a towbar? If so, take off the calipers off the kit, borrow/buy a A-frame, which in this instance legally converts the car into a trailer & tow it home.
  9. Can't believe nobody has taken this off your hands, put it on Fleecebay surely somebody will come for ut, only if they want the Pinto those boat anchors are going up in price.
  10. Picture of each may paint a thousand words
  11. Fibreglass only, nothing attached to the chassis? I'd have to read the section in the manual again but that just sounds wrong
  12. That's an interesting one, I have IVA'd 3 cars in the last 3 years all with nylocks, none of them welded, all passed through a pieces of 6mm plate with a flat washer & nylock.
  13. M8? are you sure they are normally 7/16UNF which is almost 12mm, M8 seems awfully small
  14. They will check the mountings to ensure they are adequate, they will also look at the bolt heads to make sure they are the correct grade, make sure you do not use any split washers that often come with seat belts kits. If they are inertia then they will check they lock & retract correctly, if they look old they may check the webbing to ensure there is no fraying.

    towing

The law is very clear on this despite people often trying to muddy the waters, you can only use an A-Frame or an un-braked towing dolly on a Registered, MOT'd (if required), VED's & insured vehicle to recovery it to a place of safety. It does not matter if the vehicle being towed is under 705Kgs. If you want to tow the vehicle as a trailer, which it becomes once connected to the A-Frame or on the dolly then the tow car has to have some method of applying the brakes of the trailer, this can be either mechanical or electrical. Even if the dolly has brakes then it's still cannot be used to tow the car as a trailer as the brakes of the car will still be on wheels which will be on the road & as such again need to work from the tow car. Having said that I have used them for 40 years & towed cars all over the country with them, not that I am advising anybody to do the same.

    Stoneleigh 2023

We have to support it or that will be the end of them all, it had got a bit dire over the past few years though.
  17. I also used https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181024489629?var=480201565867 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160881328576?var=460114933842 Along with some 3mm washers to replace the metal parts of the hinges & then some 4mm countersunk bolts, washers & nylocks to fasten them to my frame Then 2 pieces of https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282151591925?var=586287413267 to make the actual screens, but mine is not on a RH so you may have to improvise, Sorry I have completely forgotten how to post an image, you maybe able to see https://www.muddybuggies.com/forum/index.php?threads/melvin-the-mev-mevster.3143/page-4
  18. I bought these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303237627010?var=602224924471 to make some deflectors out of, removed the pin & replaced it with a bolt.
  19. I can recommend Clive at Autotronix Developments, School Rd, Laughton en le Morthen, Sheffield S25 1YP if it's not too far for you.

    Iva Documents

But most of all when you get to the testing station enjoy it, I've done 4 SVA's & 2 IVA's & enjoyed each experience, I do go with the attitude I'm going to fail, get a list of hopefully trivial things to fix & go back a few weeks later. The last one I did earlier in the month was even better as I came away with a first time pass, but apparently only 10% do. There is quite a bit of grey area & subjectiveness to what each inspector thinks even though they all read the same hymnbook. I never argue with the inspector nor disagree with his decision on something, I will however ask him to explain why he thinks it's wrong, I then will explain why I did it the way I did, only on 1 occasion has I changed their mind But as said it is to be enjoyed & don't get too stressed, after all it's cost you enough by that time it would be a shame to not enjoy it.

You will need invoices of the major parts, chassis, donor car, any new parts you have bought, you have to prove it is an amateur build. They also like to see some pictures You also need to complete https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1073587/apply-for-individual-vehicle-approval-cars.pdf
  22. Less is more, only put on it what you need to, add everything else after IVA, if you are going to use square tube, check the radii of the box section
  23. I doubt (read know) I can get there for 10am (family pressures), but may make it after lunch, is that an issue?
  24. The events is at Owston Hall Hotel, Doncaster. Gates open to the public 10am. Exhibitors can arrive any time before that. As an exhibitor you will get a free drink on arrival and lunch will be provided.
  25. If you are still thinking of doing some form of sprint, times section, might be worth a call to Javelin, they run Blyton & are based East of you at Kimmington maybe they could run the event & take on the liability, might be cheaper than arranging your own insurance, although they are at Three Sisters that weekend.
