  1. @Foz marks out of 10 so far ?
  2. Paint engine, sort crank shaft seal leak, wrap manifold, clean all of engine bay, paint clean and tidy anything that does not look 100% i am aiming for a top draw engine bay !
  3. It’s been a fun day with my youngest engine out with box still in situ sat on a trolley Jack and a block of wood. Might come unstuck when it goes back in but that a while down the road yet !

    Pinto lifting

Just got to the point I’m ready to lift the engine for some winter remedial, I purchased some Ford pinto lifting eyes but not sure where they go for easiest lift they don’t seem to fit in many places so is this something like right ?
  5. oil filter give them part number PURLS900 they can cross ref to any make from that, plugs are NGKAPR6FS x 4 fuel filer is normally universal inline (small) if your in leicester try Parkers the parts people highly recommended !
  6. I would just like to thank everyone for being so welcoming friendly and supportive, I am sure there are many members like I was until today thinking they might attend a show but not sure what to expect or thinking will I fit in am I out my depth etc… all I will say is take the plunge and show up no matter what car or what experience you have you are made welcome ! Genuine nice people absolute pleasure to spend a day with 5 hours felt like a few minutes and the drive was absolutely stunning. Again many thanks look forward to the next one
  7. Thanks both, I will run it up again tomorrow for longer and get it to temp, I’m 99.9% sure all is good but that 0.1% can keep me awake ! And yes I Will personally guarantee the most glorious October Sunday in living memory ! You are very welcome
  8. So with Sunday coming being the longest run my car will have done since all the work I got in a panic about engine temp as gauge was inoperable, silly as it has never even suggested over heating on 20 + mile runs. I have fitted a new gauge and temp sensor and ran it up 10mims no cap on and another 10-15 mins with cap on all seems good the gauge is only reading 70 Deg C is this about right ? Or would we expect it to be higher ?it is a cheapo aftermarket gauge Also what is the ideal running temp when I get it on the road at weekend ? At what point/temp is it getting too hot ?
  9. If the weather forecast stays as it is I will be there !
  10. Fingers crossed for the weather ! I drive my kit like I play my golf fair weather only ! (Oh and I don’t fit in it with a roof on !)
  11. The more I think about this issue I am convinced it has to be as @Foz stated fuel evaporation after a run. I totally agree that either an electric fuel pump to prime or as a full time device solve this and appreciate the advice and knowledge I have received. After more thought and research I have come across a Phenolic inlet manifold spacer that greatly reduces heat transfer from the head to the inlet manifold and ultimately the carb. has anyone ever fitted one of these and if so any feedback on them please ?
  12. If the weather is suitable I would really like to make this one. Never showed my car or attended any event before this would be a very scenic drive for Coalville and only about an hour so could be perfect
  13. On the subject of MOT stations refusing to test because it is too difficult I can assure you all that there is a list of valid reasons a station can refuse to test a vehicle but being a bit tricky is defiantly not one of them ! If you present a vehicle to test and they refuse to test it they should complete a VT30 stating reason to refuse to test the vehicle. I see lots of comments with people trying to work out what the emissions rules are for their vehicle but ultimately it is the MOT Testers responsibility to test every vehicle correctly and to have the knowledge to carry this out. To put this in perspective if Mrs Jones turns up with her ford fiesta would the tester expect her to know the emission limits ? Just because we drive unusual cars does not make us responsible for reading the testers manual and understanding it, that is the job of a trained MOT tester. My advice book it in for MOT drop it off leave them to it.
  14. Hi Graham well so far I am putting up with it ! I’ve bought a 12v pump and push switch just not got round to it yet, I have an in-line filter between pump and carb mainly so I can see how well/bad it’s drawing fuel. I don’t think it really matters where you filter but would 100% put one in

    Exhaust Wrap

Paul you mention adding a fire wall heat absorbing product to reduce heat into engine bay I am very interested as to what products and fixing methods you have found this is something on my winter to do list when the engine is out

    Exhaust Wrap

Stu I had exactly the same thing the wrapping looked old and tatty so I removed it ! Took the car out and the heat coming into drivers footwell was unreal ! Cooked my toes, so I tried to re wrap but to do this with the manifold in situ is incredibly fiddly so what I ended up with looked just as bad as the original ! I now conclude the only way to get a really good neat wrap is with manifold off the car however it’s now clear this means engine out first so when winter comes it’s engine out for a front seal and re-wrap the manifold properly. Ps I also bought black wrap and black metal ties hoping it would look amazing however took me about 30 seconds after starting to realise the black metal ties had a painted coating ! Actually thought she was going to go up in flames
  17. Rory just curious did the engine come out easy enough unbolting from gearbox ?was it easy enough to get to all the bell housing bolts ? I have a slight crank shaft oil seal leak (2.0 pinto in a 3a Monocoque)plus other jobs I want to do and plan on lifting engine out in the winter but will struggle to get under it in my garage at home so hoping I can just take engine out and leave gearbox in situ ??
  18. That place is on my visit list this year but needs to be a Sunday for me so if you fancy a weekend visit when the weather is good let me know !
  19. Thanks Ian appreciate that, I will strip and double check the pump and add this as a primer, bolt and braces approach. The positive is I've gone from a car that wont run to running rough and now I'm at the point of runs perfect just struggles to start so progress is looking good !
  20. Thanks Bob appreciate the advice,
  21. Ian apologies accepted and I apologies for over reacting in return, Thank you that is most helpful using an electric pump as a primer if I understand your description correctly? Sounds like a good solution can you guide me in appropriate elec pumps to look into ?
  22. Probably the most belittling comment I’ve read on here Ian ! Thanks for that I thought this was a community of help and support especially for new members finding their feet clearly I am wrong !
  23. Steve im reasonably confident it’s running back if I try and start after 2-3 hours it fired first turn only after leaving it a day or more if struggles to start until getting enough fuel to fire and keep running, plus in-line filter between pump and carb has little fuel in it after standing, I’m not against going to electric pump if I know it’s going to work 100% and the one way valve is a low cost option just not sure if it is a viable option. What elec pump would you recommend and regulator needed or not ?
