  1. I had to get a few service parts for my lad's car over xmas and halfords was the only place open. So, I enquired about getting a trade card after hearing about the discounts available from so many people. I explained I was not in the trade but a member of a couple of car clubs, of whom many members had got trade cards just by proving their membership. I was politely told that I didn't tick the right boxes on their criteria for a card so I had to pay full whack. Any chance that we as a club could approach them and try to get an agreement on trade cards? Bri
  2. OKO looks like it will do the business. I've suspected Simon was dyslexic for a while, i'm sure that's what he meant when he wrote oak ;-) I just need to work out how much I need, then I will get some squirted in. Thanks, Brian
  3. I’ve got tubeless pneumatic tyres on my lawnmower (18” & 13”), and they are riddled with holes from the hawthorn around our boundary. I have to pump them up every time I use the damn thing. I have tried normal tyre sealants and even sikaflex smeared on the inside, but they still go flat. I’m considering filling the tyres with something instead of air- top gear style concrete would work, but I’m thinking of something lighter! Anyone think of a durable foam or compound that I could inject in? Or other ideas? TIA, Brian
  4. I’m thinking of getting some ratchet spanners. Flexible ones seem to cost a bit more than normal ones, are they worth the extra? I was thinking that the odd time a normal spanner wouldn’t do, I could just do it with a socket. I was looking at halfrauds pro, deal on 12 pc (though with a few sizes I’d never use) at the mo. Anyone spotted any good deals on decent ones? TIA, Bri
  5. That is a real bummer. My hood is as comfy as my tin top, so I’m not sure why driving a hood should be any different to driving any other car. Is there any mod you can do with seating to get it to suit you differently/better? Bri
  6. Hi Steve, nice to meet you too. I did wonder where you were going when you took the manchester turn! Now you know why some hoodies are in the 'where the phukawi ' tribe. Navigation doesn't seem to be a strong point amongst hoodies. Hope the campers have a quiet and dry night. grand day all round, nice show. Bri

    Dizzy Connector

Any good quality 3 pole connector should do the job. The Ford ones are nothing very special. HTH, Brian

    Oulton Pic

That must have been Saturday, that area was pretty packed on Sunday.
  9. I'm only down sunday. Any other part-timers coming from Northerly direction? Latest weather looks better than earlier forecasts.
  10. yeah, mine has arrived, row F as well. Row F sounds like it is all the odds and sods, a lot of clubs have got named pitches, so we may not end up parked together. Note we need to be in by 1100 as well. Fingers x'd for an improvement in the weather... Bri
  11. Ta for replies, it defo isn't plaster board, but it sounds hollow. I can put a masonry bit in 2" but it goes in like drilling into a weetabix. My next plan was to go old school and try a square dowel, but I fear this might just burst out even more plaster. I was wondering whether some kind of chemical anchor might help beef up the plaster? Bri
  12. I've always considered myself a pretty good DIY'er, but I've got something I'm not sure how to sort. Curtain rail fell down when wifey opened curtains a few days ago. I had a look, and brackets are fixed to the wall with something like 8x1 3/4" screws into brown plugs and the plugs have pulled out. The wall around the plug is crumbly and when tapped sounds hollow. I can't just re-drill away from original fixings unfortunately. House is only 15 years old with block construction on inside of cavity and concrete lintels. Wall is papered so I really don't want to make too much mess and end up re-papering (big job). Any thoughts on keeping wall fixings in a wall like this? TIA, Bri
  13. I don't mind getting them (to Wigan/NW Poachers meet), but I'm not sure if I'm going yet. If a more reliable offer comes along, by all means take it. Brian

    Piston Stop Method

I used this method and found my tdc mark was 3deg out. It is useful to do this as a base point, but RR is really the way to go to get ignition and valve timing optimised. HTH, Brian
  15. I did the DIY method, works a treat, costs pennies. HTH, Bri
  16. I know they are trendy, but I seem to have difficulty seeing people’s indicators when they are clear lens with orange lamp type. Especially when the weather is bright. I assume they are all E marked as they are pretty mainstream nowadays, but to my mind they must have caused a few accidents. Anyone else find the same? Bri
  17. Well, fitted the 350 lb springs I got at Stoneleigh and now had chance to try them out over a variety of roads. I much prefer the ride now, it is noticeably firmer at the back, but no increased tendency to oversteer which I feared, and not overly harsh. I might be imagining a bit less body roll. I certainly surprised the bike that was behind me through some twisties on the way to work this morning. 44 notes well spent IMHO.

    Stoneleigh Camping

Anyone know if you can arrive late (after 5 o'clock) and still get in for camping? Looks like I'm heading down Sat PM now, but not sure what time I can get away. TIA, Bri

    Carfest North

I was in work early to try to get tickets, and got some at 0801. Full weekend camping and campervan pass. 85 quid doesn’t seem too bad. I heard PoP tickets are 50 odd quid this year, 2 nights camping, quite a few half decent bands, I’m really looking forward to it. Beautiful park there as well. There is a link on the website for car clubs to exhibit, might be a way of getting in for the day. Bri
  20. Mac, did you change them yet? Grim, I checked on my existing dampers and 8" would be too short, thanks though. Rally Design seem cheapest (excluding P&P)- I rang them and asked if i bought some would they take them to Stoneleigh to save P&P- they wouldn't entertain it. Oh well, others are keener!. Bri
  21. I’ve had 300lb gazes on rear of my 2B for a few years now, but I still ground out too often, and have a feeling of wallowing a bit when heavily loaded. If I increase the damping, the ride gets too harsh and skittery. I am interested in changing to 350lb springs- has anyone done same change or got 350s on that could give observations on how car is with 350s? Anyone got any suspension calcs they have done for 2B, I’ve got a few but they are inconclusive. And finally, anyone know cheap suppliers of springs (10”/1.9”ID)? TIA, Bri

    Brake Upgrade

Just disconnecting the vacuum will stop the servo working, but the feel at the pedal is wierd. To go servoless properly, you need to remove servo and fit a new pushrod (tiger racing is commonest). Sounds like if you can lock up easily now, you prob don't need better brakes, just more feel, which going servoless gives you. Cheapest of the options too. HTH, Bri
  23. Fitted mintex 1144s a couple of weeks ago to front of 2B. Came to throw the box away and spotted some thin black material (4 pieces) in the shape of a pad that was lurking in a fold in the box. What are these pieces for, do they need fitting? Ta, Bri
  24. I've had just a nyloc on mine for the last 5 years, but there is some history of them coming loose, so while I was doing jobs in the area I thought I would pin it as well. Bri
  25. I put my front suspension back together last night and came to put a split pin through the male thread of the lower balljoint, just above the torqued up nyloc. I blunted 2 drills in about 1 minute! I guess the ball joint material is seriously hard- any other ways of securing without having to drill? Or do i just need to buy some better drills? TIA, Brian
