  1. It would probably be picked up on the brake tester and would most likely fail becuase it's not safe to drive on the road.
  2. Richyb66 - will travel for chips!
  3. It's a Pinto, if there's no oil under it, there's no oil in it. Even new sump gaskets leak if they're not fitted properly. If the seals and gaskets have recently been changed it might be worth nipping the bolts up a bit in case the gasket has settled.
  4. Here's the first few videos from the Weekend:

pm me the vehicle year, model, transmission type and engine code if you know it and I'll look on elsawin. If I can find the info I'll try and email it to you (so an email address would be helpful too)
  6. I dipped the oil and cleaned the windscreen last night. I'm heading up tonight leaving around 7-30 so I'll be arriving quite late but at least I should have some quiet roads on the way. Toworrow I'll head back to Rhug and should see everyone there sometime after 4PM.
  7. Proving it's not too late to come along and returing for his second year, RedTrev will now be joining us.He's probably going to meet up at Dobbies in Shrewsbury.
  8. I think the standard swicth brings the light on below about 5 psi - i.e. just after the real damage is done. Just the keep the oil topped up, it'll be fine.

He's quite a one for the ladies too apparently but instead of having a big cock, he just decided to be one instead.

It can't be a bribe - what's in it for Bernie?
  12. Be interesting to see how far up the stick an extra pint moves the level?
  13. I overfilled my Pinto with oil, was way over the maximum level. Only differenct I noticed was blowing some oil vapour out of the filler cap on the motorway, I've drained some out now but I prefer to run it on the fuller side because I know that the oil does surge a bit with a shortened sump regardless of how well its baffled. Also, a lot of Pintos in kits seem to be fitted so that they're low at the front (probably to clear the bonnet). The attached (not brilliant) image shows the angle difference between the engine and the carb mounting flange - the carb flange should be horizontal (and clearly isn't on my car). In addition to the engine being tilted forwards and the oil being slightly more forward in the sump, the oile in the head also has more difficulty draining back down into the sump through the drain hole at the back of the head.
  14. Oil level too low so sucking up air when the oil surges. Stick another pint in and see if it still does it.
  15. Soda Blasting - just make some blanking plates up for the inlet and outlet. http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/

What engine code is it? I've done probably 7 cambelts on 1.9 Audis and VW's and all I've ever done is set the engine at TDC using the pointer in the bellhousing and sticking it in first gear. I lock the injector pump with a (think it's) 7mm drill bit and I remove the cam cover and use a stack of steel shims to lock the cam against the gasket seal face of the head using the groove in the back of the cam Probably needs about 6mm thick steel strip 25mm wide 120mm long at a guess. I've never had a problem getting everything to line up but if you need to adjust the cam you have to loosen the cam sprocket bolt slightly, use a 2 leg puller to break the taper between the sprocket and the nose of the cam and then align the cam before you re-tighten the bolt. As I said I've not had to adjust the cams ever on a 1.9tdi and never had a problem but I did have the adjust the cams when I did the belt on the quad cam 40 valve V8 in my S6. The process is basically same - get all the marks somewhere near, lock the crank, lock the injector pump, lock the cam (breaking the taper if you have to). Fit new belt and tension it correctly. Re-tighten cam sprocket bolt. Obviously don't loosen the cam sprocket bolt loads so the sprocket is flapping around. You just want it to be able to turn on the taper when you tension the belt.
  17. Not long to go now so time for a quick run through some times for Friday afternoon. The Leics lads are going to meet Jez at the Copper Kettle nr Atherstone CV9 1RE at around 2PM (possibly a bit earlier depending on how quick. Jez can get there. When they leave, Jez will text me and Thrashed. Next meet will be at Dobbies Garden Centre Shrewsbury SY3 0DA most likely around 3-30PM. Thrashed and Florin will hopefully be waiting there. The petrol station at Dobbies gets quite busy and once you get fuel, you can only really re-join the A5 because there’s not much parking there. If anyone gets there early and wants to save time, they could fuel up then drive back around the A5 island so that they can park up and wait. When you finally leave there you’ll be turning left onto the A5 towards Oswestry. Again this can take a bit of time getting out on the island if the traffic is busy and everyone will get split up, so I’d advise just get out onto the A5 and then stick to about 55mph. There’s about 3 miles of dual carriageway, followed by 2 miles of single then another couple of miles of dual carriageway again to allow everyone to catch up. Can someone text me when you’re leaving Dobbies please? Final meeting point is Rhug Farm Shop Corwen LL21 0EH between 4-30PM and 5-00PM where Martin and I will be waiting. If everyone makes reasonable time and there’s not too much traffic, we can grab some food and have a chat here before we carry on. All times are approximate, if we end up running early that’s great and if we can minimize delays at the meeting points and save it for Rhug when we eat, it would be a big help. If there’s any major delay on the day, LET ME KNOW so I can keep everyone informed. I can pm my mobile number to anyone who needs it. I’ve prepared some small maps of the local Nefyn area to help with getting around and the food preparations for Saturday’s BBQ are well underway. Local boy Knownothing (Richard) will be meeting up with us on Saturday for his first big run out so it will be nice to see another new face. Weather forecasts in North West Wales are largely irrelevant, I can’t guarantee that the weather will be decent but at least the welcome will be warm. If you want to come along then it’s not too late – just decide what you want to do and let me know if you want feeding on Saturday night – if you’re veggie let it be known and I get extra lettuce in. Food and soft drinks provided, if you want beer then bring it along. Any other questions – just ask. I’m driving up Thursday night, see everyone Friday!
  18. Battery - I would expect one to last much longer than yours on a car driven every day, never mind occasional use.
  19. He didn't have a bad run home then - he was still talking to me in the pub car park at 9-45!
  20. Today, Malt Shovel Pub, Coventry Road, Nr Stonebridge, Coventry, CV7 7HL https://maps.google....ingdom&t=m&z=15 Entrance to pub car park is off the A452 Chester Road heading North 50 yards from the island. Everyone welcome, see you there.
