    Please Help!

Good stuff - welcome aboard! Best pointer to identify the harness will be the fusebox (donor Ford fusebox will be big with lots of fuses and relays). Less than half a dozen fuses probably mean an aftermarket harness of which there are several types.

    Please Help!

I'm sure some assistance will be forthcoming but given that it's a wiring query which in many cases can end up being long winded and requires a home visit, you're going to get a better response if you're a RHOCar member as advised in one of your earlier posts. You will find everyone here very helpful and most forum based queries will be answered promptly but when the assistance is taken to the next level and a more hands on approach is needed, people are a bit more willing to put themselves out if it's a fellow club member. Also we need more information to go on - do you know what wiring harness is fitted currently? Get a few photo posted that show maybe the fusebox and some of the harness so we can try and identify the harness and see what the general state of the wiring is.

    Speeding

Maybe some people drive fast because they enjoy it and accept that there's a risk attached to it but do it anyway. A bit like people who smoke or drink excessively.

    Speeding

Speeding ticket seem to be part and parcel of driving these days, especially since cameras came in to force and made the job automated. I agree with Mick that if you knowingly speed and get caught, you've only got yourself to blame but my issue with cameras is that unlike actually being pulled over in the old days, they don't allow the opportunity for the police to evaluate all the facts and conditions on the day and actually APPLY SOME COMMON SENSE. Sometimes I think that a firm talking to and being sent on your way might actually give people a bit more respect for the driving rules and the people who (used to) enforce them. Having a ticket drop on your doormat after the event is an annoyance, not a deterent.

    Speeding

Just spoke to my dad - he got done for 96 on the motorway last year (he's 69 bless him!). They claimed the road was wet and it went to court but he didn't attend because he was out of the UK at the time but he had to fill out a statement which was read in court and he contested the claim that the road was wet and that the offence was less serious then they were claiming. Outcome, £330 fine £60 victim surcharge or some such thing, 6 points. No ban though. He has got previous form for speeding (who hasn't these days?) so he was worried about a ban. He did say that the penalty he got was pretty well in the middle of the Migistrates Court Sentencing Guidelines that are available on line but don't make pleasant reading. According to them, he could still have been banned but if this was the case, he would have got fewer points.

    Speeding

99mph on the speedo isn't going to be 96mph actual that would get you a summons. It's probably more like 92mph which should be a fixed penalty. I reckon 3 points and £150 fine. I'd be more concerned if it wast wet or busy at the time which could lead to a charge of dangerous driving which has more severe consequences.
  11. ECE exhaust noise tests for cars are taken with frequency weighting "A" and time weighting "F" (ECE Reg 51 - this is a hefty bit of reading because it also covers noise emissions from other sources like tyres and wind noise). I would expect trackday tests to be take with the same weightings.
  12. Obviously that's for IVA, if you're already on the road then it's probably not that much of an issue.
  13. Yes, need to be betwenn 500 and 1200mm from the ground.
  14. Not this week but next Wednesday, 30th July, 7pm onwards, Malt Shovel Pub, Coventry Road, Nr Stonebridge, Coventry, CV7 7HL https://maps.google....ingdom&t=m&z=15 Entrance to pub car park is off the A452 Chester Road heading North 50 yards from the island. Everyone welcome, see you there.

    Tool Kit

Dogged determination and a good sense of humour. The first might help you fix the problem. The second will help if you can't.
  16. Had a bit of a dry run today. I'm on holiday for the next week so I drove the kit up to Wales to see how my timings were looking. I'm about 10 minutes West of the Copper Kettle in Tamworth so I'd planned on leaving at 2-15 ish to represent a 2PM departure form the Copper Kettle. I actually got away at 3PM so possibly a bit more traffic about but I took a steady run up just with the normal traffic flow and 70 on the M54. It took me 1 hour 10 minutes to get to Dobbies in Shrewsbury, it took me another hour to get to Rhug farm shop, then an hour to Porthmadog and finally 30 minutes to Nefyn so not much slower that gunning it in the tin top. My timings in the earlier post seem fairly generous and the journey time from Dobbies to Rhug is more dependant of the speed of the other traffic than how fast you want to drive due to limited overtaking opportunities. I had one stop for fuel at Dobbies and then an unscheduled stop on the B4391 about 3 miles from Llan Ffestiniog with a broken throttle cable. This held me up for 40 minutes while I fixed it but I've only got myself to blame - I noticed it was frayed at the carb end a couple of weeks ago but I forgot to order a new one. The repair held out to get me here but I'll try and get a new cable tomorrow.
  17. No, not mine. I've already got an aluminium one but I spotted this thread featuring a fibreglass Dutton roof and thought it might be of general interest. http://www.rodsnsods...ng-jobby-240825
  18. It's very feasible, no IVA required if you use a registered 2b, a new body and keep the chassis / main running gear. Here's a thread where someone had done just this: http://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/garage/model-roadster-kit-car-based-152233 There's a load of information on RnS regarding re-bodies on an existing chassis and there are a number of smaller bodies that are close enought to the 2B wheelbase to make it do-able.
  19. Bob, are you coming up the M5, M6, M54 or doing the scenic route via Gloucester, Leominster and Ludlow?
  20. Right, it’s just over 3 weeks to go now, so time to firm up some of the Friday travel arrangements. Last year’s trip up to Wales ran a bit late meaning that the teatime eating venue had to be re-located, so in an attempt try and speed thinks up it’s been suggested that we have fewer meeting points and also try and minimise the delays (chatting!!) where we meet up. This is a long drive and can get busy on a Friday afternoon but I’d like everyone to get past the worst of the traffic with the fewest delays possible so they have more time to enjoy the better roads later on in the day. Initial thoughts for travel on Friday 8th August are as follows. Andi has indicated that the Leics. guys will arrange their own meet up and then travel across to the next meeting point at the lay-by near the Copper Kettle café on the A5 near Atherstone CV9 1RE at 2PM From here I suggest a route following the A5 up to Churchbridge near Cannock, pick up the A460 down towards the M54 J1 and then follow the M54 / A5 to the next meeting point: Dobbies Garden Centre, Shrewsbury SY3 0DA where there’s also a petrol station and I suggest filling up here. ETA here depends on traffic but I’d like to think that it would be sometime around 3-30PM (approx distance for this leg is 58 miles). From here it’s nice and easy, just follow the A5 to the next meeting point. Rhug Farm Shop, nr Corwen LL21 0EH. No fuel here but toilets and hopefully food if we’re here before 6 (which we weren’t last year). This time I’m hoping the ETA will be before 5PM (approx distance for this leg is 42 miles). Like last year. I’ll meet everyone here so I’ll hopefully be there nice and early. From here we can do another fuel stop nearby if required then we’ll head up through Bala, Llan Ffestiniog and Porthmadog to Nefyn. Like last time I’ll tailor the route on the day to suit the traffic but it’s about 38 miles to Porthmadog and then another 20 odd to Nefyn. I’m hoping that our final arrival time will give everyone the chance to get checked into their accommodation and still get out for a quick drink afterwards if they feel able. Obviously not everyone’s going to want to travel in a convoy so if people want to make their own way then that’s fine. If people want to leave earlier but still meet up at Rhug for the last bit of the drive, I’d suggest they stop off in Llangollen. There’s a large car park in Market Street which has toilets next to it and there’s food and the steam railway within easy walking distance if you want to kill a bit of time. If anyone needs more detailed information about the route or has anything to add, let me know.
  21. What happened? I was hoping for sausage pictures!
  22. If that was on Ebay it would be "99% complete and only needs a weekends work to get it back on the road"

    Wiring

I have the X Type circuit diagrams in pdf format, pm your e-mail address and I'll e-mail them.
  24. Great news, I'm pretty sure you'll find that it was worth the wait.
  25. That would limit you to a true radius in the corner - with a wooden former you can have pretty much any shape you want. My hardtop doesn't no, but channel should hold a Surry top down fine. I'm currently making a Surrey top for mine too but I've used awning rail on the top of the screen and I've sewn some 2 core flex into the front edge of the Surrey to fit in the rail.
