  1. Hi, I'd use something called an easy out. Very useful for removing sheared off bolts and screws. Found this, might be of some use. http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Out-Piece-Set-Case/dp/B0002UJNWE
  2. Don't worry Andy, I think the search teams have found you.... Sorry mate, can't make it again. Even in the tin top.
  3. Hi Jim, Pleasantly surprised by Greenflag. Although they did not recognise the Robin hood, they logged it as a Caterham and manually changed details. I have gone for the recovery plus for me and the missus for any car, based on the hood being the oldest vehicle. All in £140. If I wanted europe cover then additional £20. Pretty reAsonable I thought, compared to the "AA"... If I hadn't specifically asked about the kit car cover though and took their standard policy, I'd have been up s**t creek with no paddle. Always advisable to check...
  4. Hi, Had some fun today when trying to get new breakdown cover. Decided to change from the "AA" after having a heart attack from their steathily increased premium (almost £300!) So shopped about and have gone Green flag. Had some fun getting cover though for my 2B, just wondered if any one else has had similar issues. Poor lass at the end of the phone spent 10 mins trying to find out about if they covered Kit cars, eventually told me yes. Normally only cover cars upto 16 yrs old so the premium would cost a bit more (£140 so still cheaper than AA) problem being that although SVA'd and registered this year, I have an age related plate on a "D". Once we got over that hurdle, then had fun as she did not have or heard of a "Robin Hood" on her computer list of cars, so had to log it as a "Cattering van" and change details manually. Then the best laugh was when asked how many doors, 2,4 or 5. My response was met with silence when I said....none! Her replay was a gem...."Computer says No! Eventually got it covered after putting it down as a Caterham with 2 doors.....what joy! Any one else had fun with this. May also be worth checking on the car age rule to make sure you are covered....

    Build Pictures

Hi, The Chassis number is as Jez states very easy to do. It must contain 17 characters but not the letters i,o. You can be creative and use a combination of letters and numbers to make a phrase/ name (I made it up with my kids names), basically as long as it is totally individual, it should not matter. The photo stuff, can be a real pain as I went through SVA earlier this year and had my initial application rejected as insufficient proof of amateur build, despite sending in nearly 40 photo's! I also had the problem of buying as a part build. So I had to get creative. PM me if you need help with this...... Chris is also right about taking a few photo's of things like seat belt anchor points, brake/ fuel pipe routing in tunnel, handbrake adjuster etc, as this could save a lot of time and potentailly stripping the car apart on site or even a failure. Might seem a bit daunting now, but there is plenty of help here to help will you on. The wait is worth it!!!....enjoy and savour the moment when you get handed your MAC certificate.
  6. Hi, I have just bought a fancy alloy for the spare wheel so no longer require the spare wheel cover which I had made. It is in really good condition (less than 6 mths old) is made from a thick black leatherette vinyl with white piping. The cover will fit over 14 -15" wheels upto 210 wide (elasticated). Only looking for a £5 er, + posting costs. Piccy below. PM me if interested
  7. Sorry Andy, Being sent to Czech rep/ Germany (work) this week so won't be able to make it..!
  8. I have a few things lined up dependant on pennies spare and permission from the boss.... I want to dump the 38 DGAS and fit bike carbs as I believe that this will make a significant improvement to performance, this will also mean rolling road session as I haven't a clue how to set up correctly. Also I want to replace the sliding pillocks on the front with the more conventional wishbone set up (haven't got too many fillings left from the stiff front end ) Got some nice shiny vents to fit on the bonnet to improve air cooling. Also need to fit my wipers and wiper motor and tidy up my dash wiring ( a bit rushed to get it road ready for the summer) And finally I have now had my steering shaft repaired/ modified properly (cracked weld) so will get this fitted shortly. All this once I have finished my nice new double garage,,,before the missus manages to fill it with shoes and stuff!
  9. Hi Paul, Yes I know what you mean. Approx a 1" gap from the edge of the footwell/ fire wall to the inside of the side panel. I basically made up small plate to fill the gap and sealed this in place with Silkoflex sealant (from GBS). On the plate I folded the 2 edges which fitted against the side wall and footwell to give a lip that I could put sealent on. This has seemed to fix it pretty solid and has noy moved. With carpets in place you would never know. I'm not sure how others have done this though (sorry haven't got any piccies to show).

    Wheel Size?

Hi, I have also gone away from the 14" wheels and replaced with some 15" ones which look much better (in my opinion) I have 195 x 50 x 15 's fitted. These keep the same diameter as the 14" wheels so the Speedo is unaffected, but giving a smaller tyre profile. Hope this helps..piccie attached
  11. Hi, Just bought myself a spare alloy to go on the back, so I now have a spare wheel cover which needs to find a new home . It is designed to fit 15" wheel upto 215. It is made from black vinyl with white piping trim. Has elasticated edge to stretch over the tyre. The cover is only 6 mths old. I'm after £10 for it +p&p. If anyone is interested send me a pm. Picture of it fitted to my car below: Would help if I could spell wheel correctly....(before any of you kindly point it out...)
  12. Hi Rick, I used the 3 polishing stages, which worked through any laquer finish that may be present on the staiinless. If you catch certain parts in the right light I can see some polishing marks, however the end finish is pretty good (depends on the time spent on it)
  13. I just bought the standard 12 piece polishing kit (www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Standard_Polishing_Kits.html) £17.60. Best of luck...
  14. Yep, I'm here.... As Grizzly has said, I used a polishing kit from the polishing shop www.thepolishingshop.co.uk(approx £20 for the kit). Managed to polish the roll bar pretty well and polished out a few nasty deep scratch's on the bonnet and rear wing. I think the results are pretty good, but it is not a 2 minute job... For cleaning the car I use window lean, seems to do the job pretty well.
  15. Hi Andy, Sorry mate, would love to make it but car is off the road (steering shaft being re-welded) and is now Sorned. I will try to make a few meetings over the colder months in between doing tweaks to the car.... Cars only been off the road a week, I'm already getting the urge... See you all soon
  16. Cheers Duncan, Could so easily have ended in tears.... How's your car now. Did you get the engine sorted?
  17. Hi, Thought I'd take the car out for one last spin today (going on Sorn for the winter end of Sept) Noticed a knocking through the steering. On checking found that the modified lower steering column shaft (connecting to the rack) had a cracked weld. Looks like the shaft has been modified (I bought the kit part built) and a thinner section put in the middle. (will try and post some piccies...If I can find the damn batteries for the camera!). Lower part of shaft was almost free floating, virtually steering on friction fit....! Guess the welds weren't up to much and have been stressed by the alternator occasionally hitting the shaft. Pretty damn lucky, especially after reading the previous mails this week on steering issues. Dread to think what could have happened if I had not spotted it. Guess another job to add to the winter list. Managed 2000 miles this year, pretty much trouble free since SVA in April. Had a fantastic 6 mnths and can't wait till nxt spring and to meet up with you all again
  18. Hi, Keep us posted on the upgrade package as I might be very interested. Have got it ear marked/ on the things to do list for the coming dark evenings. Just got to convince the other half its a worth while investment (fed up with rattling my fillings out with the sliding pillar set up)!
  19. Hi Pretty sure its not a fuel problem (I was with Duncan when he broke down on his way to Stafford show Saturday). The car was running on 3 cylinders, although it did appear to be getting a good spark. Duncan, I would check all plugs are giving a good spark, then would look at the suggestion of coil over heating/ breaking down or even look at the HT leads for leakage/ breaking down. From what I saw/ heard would definately look down the electrical route first.
  20. Hi, This being my first year with the car on the road, 1st experience of attending a show was at Newark. I did attend a local meet a few weeks prior, which I'm glad I did as I drove down with another Hoodie. Must admit I do recognise the "Symptom" of feeling a little daunted/ excluded. This lasted all of a few minutes and soon got chatting to a few other members. The "T" Shirt thing, sounds to me a good idea , as it would at least point us newbies in the right direction. The biggest issue for me (and still is!) Is knowing who to talk to to get info on things like the raffle, mugs, tea etc. One idea I thought of would be to have a meet and greet person (specific task to meet/ greet arrivals at the show and direct them as to "What, Who and where". Looking forward to next year and getting a bit more involved... Just my thoughts...
  21. Oops...! Sorry for the confusion lads .
