  1. Are you sure that your modified distributor shaft is engaging with the auxilary shaft so that the oil pump is actually being driven. When I fitted my Megajolt I mounted the coil in place of the distributor and did not realise that the distributor shaft turns the oil pump - hence I had no oil pressure either. I had to modify the distributor shaft and re-fit it.
  2. These are the AVO's I fitted to the rear of my Series III - click here I have still got the originally supplied coil-overs on the front.
  3. I did the same, made an adaptor plate to fit the Mountney Traditional wheel to a Snap-Off removable boss which has an M type fitting.

    Screeeech!

If its not the alternator or water pump then the next favourite is the cam belt tensioner.
  5. Does anybody have any of these laying around that they don't need? I think they were used in the lighting circuits on the Sierra. Please PM me.
  6. The VDO fuel level sensor fits perfectly in a Series 3 tank without any mods to the tank. The sensor does not come with a pickup pipe so I used a length of metal brake pipe, drilled a hole so that the pipe was a tight fit and sealed with some fuel resistent putty stuff. I use a VDO Vision fuel gauge wich is NOT programmable.

    Was It You?

Green Hood spotted on the A142 near Sutton, Cambridge just after 8 this morning. Saw you too late to wave, I was in the red Hood.
  8. The sierra heater unit and fan worked for me with the battery (085 type) sitting in a tray forward of the bulkhead. The fan is nice and powerful for those cold mornings.
  9. I have a Snap Off kit fitted on my Hood. As well as a good security device it makes getting in and out of the car easier and improves access when working in the footwell. There is some good info here

    She Passed

Good to hear that there will be another Hood on the road soon as they are a bit scarce here in the Peterborough area. There is a good car show on at Maxey on the 12th August see here. My Series 3 won the Best Kit Car category a couple of years ago. See you there.
  12. I used Aluminised Glass Cloth to line the engine bay. Not sure that it has much affect as my feet roasted today coming home from work.
  13. I had the same problem when I first built My Series 3. The solution was a custom made double cored radiator that fits in the nosecone and a Rover SD1 header tank.
  14. Hi Paul, I have one from a 1984 Sierra complete with plug and about a foot of wire which you are welcome to have. Shall I send it to the address on the compliments slip you sent with the wiper switch? Nigel.
  15. And here is mine which is now in and running. Trigger wheel is mounted on the rear of the crank pulley which means that the fan belt does not interfear with the sensor.
  16. Hi Paul, Is this the baby. This is the one I used on my Megajolt installation. How did you mount the sensor on your car? Nigel. p.s. Thank's again for the switch.
  17. Hi Paul, Excellent - you have a PM Nigel.
  18. I had to raise my screen as I am tall which left a very large gap. I made a panel from thin sheet steel to cover the gap, the bottom edge has a rubber seal and is also sealed on the inside with clear silicone sealant.
  19. Does anybody have an early style (1983/4) lighting/wash-wipe switch they would like to sell? I managed to snap off the wiper stalk today, caught it in the end of my trouser leg whilst getting in the car
  20. I had the same problem on a 2.0l pinto which was caused by valve seat regression. It was a leaded head and I was using unleaded petrol with the magic tin pellets in the tank (which don't work). The exhaust valve seats had worn, the valve clearances on a couple of valves was zero so the valves were not closing completely. Lots of popping from the exhaust and the odd backfire as well. Cured by fitting an unleaded head.
  21. Have you checked the anti-rattle bush on the pin that the end of the clutch arm pivots on, if this is missing then this could cause the arm to rattle until the pedal is pressed. Bush Anti Rat - Part No: P F1553790 - £0.56 from Ford.
  22. I did not realise the speedo drive gear was dependent on diff ration and wheel size - makes sense now. Thank's guys.
  23. I have recently changed my gearbox, which is dated 1983 (graunched into 2nd gear) to a gearbox that I bought on its own. I do not know what car/model it came from but it has a date stamp of 1988 on it. After the change my speedo mileometer (VDO electronic fed from a sensor on the speedo drive cable) under read by 2 tenths of a mile. I know there was a redesign of the Type 9 in 1987, did they also change the speedo drive gearing? I have since re-callibrated the speedo so it indicates correctly but just curious to know if the speedo drive gearing had changed.

    I'm Cracking Up

I have been running a Series 3 since 1997, I have done 13,000 miles and no sign of any cracks yet, I have not strengthened any of the suspect areas. I must not be driving it hard enough!
