    Gearbox ?

Gaz. I am fitting an MT75 in to mine. I got my gearbox from GBS, they myst have finaly run out of supply of donor cars they once had. You can get a fully refurbished MT75 for £350 from e-bay. it of a long linke, but here it is. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sierra-Granada-Capri-Kit-Robin-Hood-Locost-MT75-Gearbox-/110742804057?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19c8c91659#ht_1926wt_1398 I am not sure if a type 9 gearbox mates to the Zetec or not, I suspect it will.

    Australia!

I am sure that GBS has exported 1 or 2 kits to Australia so if the recipients don't post on here, I am sure Richard or Keith at GBS could put you in contact or may even know what the process is. Got to be worth a phone call.

    E.c.m. / Throtle Body

Have you looked at the GBS plennum chamber option? This is cheaper and according to their rolling road experiments can still deliver 165BHP. The fully Jenvey throttle body route only gives 175BHP according to their figures. I am going the plennum route as it is cheaper and it also saves cutting the bonnet. I also think it will be plenty of power for me (around 300BHP per tonne!!) I can't help with the loom question as I am just bitting the bullet and getting the GBS engine loom so it simply plugs in to the other loom. Gauge wise, it all depends on what you want. The prices GBS were quoting on the Kitspares site for the Smiths gauges was actually very competitive, although last time I looked they were out of stock so possibly only available to order in now. You will pay about the same for ETB although ETB give you more choice over face colours etc. Budget around £500. The single pod Digidash type options are cheaper and give a more modern/race type look and feel to the car. All personal preference.
  4. Personally I would go for the middle black U channel trim but only to give it a bit of deffinition between the scuttle and the dash. It is easy to make these decisions when it is not your car!

    Sierra Front Uprights

Rally Design used to list them in their adverts in the kit magazines at £108 a pair (incl VAT) but when you go on their website they only have LH ones, well they did last time I looked.
  6. Has to be built and registered pre1973 which is why this can only be tax exempt due to and admin cock up

    Insurance

You have to get a normal quote on Frank Pickles on line quote and then on the price presentation page there is an option for build up cover. I just got a quote for £124. It is not a lot to pay to protect the car later in the build as the value starts to add up. I suspect it is all dependant in the value you are putting on it. I doubt that you can add it to your house insurance as it is/will be a motor vehicle.

    Body Work

Mike. I think you will find that you will have to cut out the nose cone to fit round the upper wishbones. I am advised that there were 2 different nose cone molds, 1 that allows the nose cone to fit round the upper wishbone and 1 that means you have to cut the nose cone. Like you, I have the latter and I am slowly but surely cutting bits away until it is a good fit. If you have a look at my blog (link below) at the entry for the 9th August, you can see some pictures of me starting to trim away. I still haven't completed it yet but it shows the route I am taking. Hope it helps.
  9. Good luck with it Andy. It is not actually as daunting a task as it first appears. Just take your time and it will be fine. Be prepared to fit it, remove it, fit it, remove it etc as you tweak things. Also bear in mind that the support stays may not quite be in the right place and may need tweaking upwards. Have a look at Shaft's build as he explains the rear panel fitting really well.
  10. John. I have also been looking at guages recently and if the GBS prices are the same as they were when they last had guages in stock (around the £500 for one of the sets and around £400 for the other) then the prices are very competitive, especially as I think they include all the senders etc. I priced up the same from Europa Spares and it worked out at near £700!! Even ETB, who appear to be cheaper aren't by the time you get all the senders etc. GBS also have the warning lights built in to the speedo so it is all very neat. I have a feeling that if you can get them cheaper, it won't be by much. PS You need to knockt he full stop off Femster's link to get it to work.
  11. I think the various blogs, mine included, and photo bucket type accounts (Shaft's and Gixerboys are 2 good examples) give a good idea of the build sequence. Having said that, there is no set order for things but you are right that it is suggested that you fit the diff first, purely from an access point of view. After that condiser fitting the brake pipes, again as access is easier. Then the foot panels, seat back panel, inner panels (but not the passenger side tunnel yet as you need that for access to fit the prop shaft) and then perhaps the bushes in the suspension and then fit the suspension to the rear etc. My only advice would be to think about what you are fitting and if it can be removed, if required, for access behind it. For example, don't bond the tank in place until you have fitted the fuel pumps and filter that will sit behind it. It just makes your life a lot easier. Perhaps don't fit any of the inner panels until you have cleaned out the threads for the seat belts and so on. You are still very welcome to come down and have a look at mine and have a chat about it all if you would like, just let me know.

  14. Any details about the Morgan Visit? I am coming to join you for the visit if it is still on. Really looking forwad to meeting all of you.
  15. They keep telling me the Manual is on its way, but it has been like this since I got my kit last December!!
  16. Having had chance to think about this, and having signed the petition, I don't think it is going to change! The deal has been done and no matter how many people sign petitions or call the F1 and BBC execs names, this is the way it is going to be. I won't be paying for SKY so if I want to watch F1 I have to resign myself to watching what ever I can live, and then the highlights for the rest. It won't be the same but in reality, what can any of us actually do about it? The F1 and BBC execs don't give a rats backside about the fans so they won't be bothered about the backlash that is happening at the moment, they are far too busy congratulating each other and counting their ill gotten gains!!

    Latest Update

Looks ab fab James, well done. Love the colour.
  19. This is just the thin edge of the wedge. I don't have and do not want to have Sky and certainly not just so I can watch F1. I love F1 and have been an avid viewer since the Hunt and Mansel years but not being able to watch the whole season live and only getting highlights shows is not on. The BBC should have simply kept the deal as it was until 2013 and jacked it in then. I get very little from the BBC of programs I actually want to watch and now it has reduced by abot 50%!!!
  20. Starting to trim around the edges for the upper wishbone but, where there is the right angle cut, should that sit snuggly with the head lamp bracket and then nicely flush to the top chassis side rail? Finally, how have you all secured the bottom of the nose cone? Mine doesn't appear to want to go over (or should that be under) the lower cross member so should I fabricate a bracket of some sort and fix that to the cross member and then the nose cone to the bracket, if that makes sense?

    Iva Insurance?

You will have to get it insured using the chassis number you have stamped on to the chassis. I suspect all the better kit insurers will be used to this practice and can arrange short period cover for you. The third party only extension on your tin top policy only covers you to drive a car not belonging to you, on a third party only basis, so you can't use that. Good luck with the IVA.
  22. Looks like a really neat job Jon, well done.
  23. Every insurer has area of buisness they want to attract and the AA are simply saying "we don't want you!" but we'll take the premium if you really want to pay it! The remarkable thing is that even at those prices, a lot of insurance companies still aren't making any profit on the basic policies. They make a lot more on the add on products like Uninsured Loss Recovery (Legal Cover) or windscreen cover etc. Many years ago the insurers could afford to run at a loss as they would make it up by investing the premiums, but not any more.
