  1. I've picked up the new engine now and swapped the clutch and flywheel over from my 2.0 as the new engine was from a cortina and do had the wrong size centre hole on it. Tried to drop it in by myself but didn't get very far so have to leave it to another day.
  2. I have a set available if you need them still?

    Carb Setup

If I remember correctly the vv carb is not very well regarded, good excuse to change it. I wonder who has a selection of pinto carbs for sale... ;-)
  4. Hi David, I'm in northfield, Birmingham. I have it advertised on locostbuilders along with my old wings and spare carbs.
  5. I want to redo the front end anyway, as it wasnt properly finished, also makes for better access.
  6. After tonight's work I wanted to start a little write up of my engine swap. The engine is being changed as the 2.0 pinto that came in my kit (I bought part built) has an undiagnosed none running problem, so decided to cut my losses and swap for a known good engine. So last 3rd feb I had the afternoon off and started with a car that looked a like this The plan was start preparing the engine to come out, so drain oil, remove ancillaries etc. I also spent some time removing the screen, wiper mechanism and washer bottle as I am replacing with an aero screen. By the end of the day I had drained the oil, removed the carb, undone the exhaust manifold but it was still in place as it's a Hell of a fiddly job with the engine in place, and removed the alternator. Didn't get a photo atbthisstage but not much to see. Didn't get in the garage then untill weekend just gone and didnt have long in there. During the week my aeroscreen had arrived. The arrival of this made me realise if I am going to paintbit, then I need to pick a colour, as I need to paint the scuttle befor fixing the aeroscreen down. I digress, so next up was removing the swept wings and nose cone for better access, this was simple enough and I then undid engine to box bolts though there are two that are proving quite stubborn, and also removed the engine to box brace. This left the car looking like this Then Monday my father in law won a complete 1.6 pinto on eBay for less than the cost of getting a free one shipped to me from a generous member on locostbuilders. So this is being collected Saturday morning so I needed to get the car ready to receive it. So tonight I needed to remove the rest of the front end, having not assembeled it myself I thought this might proove interesting, however my fears were missed place and after a couple of hours work my car now looks like this. So there are still a couple of stubborn gearbox to engine bolts to undo, and the engine mounts to undo but then Friday night this engine is coming out ready for the new one to be dropped to place Saturday. Unfortunately I have my two nieces for the day saturday so connecting up and first start will have to wait until Sunday. Then if all goes well I can rebuild the front end. I am massively excited, but also very nervous. Hopping to post back Sunday with a big grin on my gave and a first start video to go with it.
  7. I'll be honest I didn't look at how much the manual choke kit was, would be looking similar money but obviously it's heavier so postage would be more.
  8. On this note I noticed a lot of their compressors were half price in my local store yesterday starting at £50.
  9. I possibly have a webber carb going spare that has a manual choke kit fitted. Make me an offer?
  10. I could probably pick if up for you and post on to you?

What it lacks in power it makes up for in revs

    Engine Options

I have read a few zetec conversions and it never seems as simple as it should be. Maybe it's me wanting too much of an easy life! If zetec is simplest then I think will stick with another pinto as that will be plug and play. As I said, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something like a moon buggy engine is a straight swap and better than a pinto.

    Engine Options

By summer I should be in a position to swap out my none working pinto for a replacement engine. I dont want to mess about fitting a zetec so wondered what engine and gear box combinations are straight fit onto each other and subsequently onto my existing prop. Wiring etc I have no problem with so efi engines are fine. But the simpler the mechanical fit the better. I know the simple answer is to fit another pinto and i most likely will, just want to make sure i don't miss out on something that could be better!
  14. Cheers, message sent with email address
  15. UPDATE Just spoken to Matt and can confirm tomorrow's rolling road day is now CANCELLED due to the weather conditions. They have approximately over 2inches of snow there and still falling heavy. On a side note be careful if you are having to venture out, some major roads including the M42 have not been gritted!
  16. I know some people are thinking of coming, quick weather update below WEATHER UPDATE All looks good at the moment with no snow down at TDF, Matt is going to let me know if this changes and I'll update the thread if things change.
  17. Not sure if it's a Sierra mechanism or a mini one, any easy way to tell?
  18. Oh and any suggestions on best place for an aero screen for an s7??
  19. I have a screen, wiper mech, washer bottle and pump from my S7 thatbi am replacing with an aero screen. Firstly what's that lot worth? Secondly what would you use to fill the holes?
