  1. Vic, Well done. Glad you made it. The Soton centre advises VOSA , so everything is to the book. As a previous response -- thorough but fair. Not open to interpretation though. Its not a bad day if the weather is good. Expect several hours - its not wa 2-3 hour in and out as at other centres. I got there for 8 and left at 16:45 - with a fail list , only 5 or 6 bits I could not fix on site.. It was great fun driving to the centre for the second check ( they only check the bits they failed , not everything again!).. Dont panic... Best Wishes Graham
  2. My replacement MT75 was filled with red oil . I only noticed when some of it spread all over the workshop floor !! It runs fine. The only other red i know is in the Diff. Graham

    Washers

Ian Just make sure they are nylocks or have spring washers !! SVA testers dislike nuts and bolts that can come undone, regardless of how tight you did them up. Good Luck Graham.
  4. What a stroke of luck. My DOHC has one to pickup the crank position for the ECU...and I have a spare. Thanks Tim
  5. Les, Is this with a 16valve head? Does the 16 valve head have a different timing setting ( different ECU ) from the 8 valve,, or have you fitted another 8 ? Mine is always rough at the bottom end with the efi, but that is all down to the choke valve not working fast enough. Graham
  6. Tim If I knew what a VR sensor was I might progress. Daves unit used to work OK until we did some rejigging of the rear axle. Mine has never been stable, even after chatting to CA and Merlin motorsport, all they could suggest was a very expensive sensor upgrade. Graham Colin I looked at the switch setting matrix supplied with the guage - newver got into the maths to work out what half calculated figure would be or if the switches could be so configured. 7. I have a Telemetrix 0-140 speedo installed that relies on 4 magnets attached to the prop shaft working a v. small reed switch. All is fine to about 50 mph and then I might as well have wind speed indicator. The needle can sit at 60 maybe 70 from 3000 to 4500 revs, then jumps to 90 or back to 30. My mate with a locost has almost the same symptoms, just different speeds the thing thinks is right. Does anyone know the answer . --- Can someone design a Hall effect system ( cheaper than the manufacturers) - that will give pulses from a single pickup.. Or is this a pipe dream.. thanx in advance Graham

Whats this ?? A secret project for the Area Sec !! After a chassis with wishbones - wonder if he has had enough of the sliding pillocks and intends to swap all over. Or is it for that Pinto with the hot cam? Good luck with the search John. Graham

    Dohc Engine

Jim Dont scrap it all. I would like take the head and the sump. I have been trying to cure a rattling hydraulic tappet for ages. I think a completely rebuilt top end this winter is on the cards. At the moment I have cut the bottom 1 3/4 inches off the alloy sump. Hopefully will stop me grounding it so often ( 2 x yesterday) --so a spare is always handy. I am likely to *** the pickup pipe - keep your fingers crossed or I will really need the guts of another engine. I have offered the flywheel ( another thread) off the remains of a lump, but yours is probably cleaner !! I can pick bits up from Brum, just dont know when. regards Graham

Hi, Just what I was looking for. The back end of my 2B makes funny noises. I have tried the halfshafts - now its time for the big lump. Can you see how much to transport, please. Graham www.gbowden.co.uk Thatcham Berks
  17. Let me check the spare MT75 tonight. If there is still one in the gearbox, you are welcome to it. Graham

    Dash Options

Yes looks like the back of mine too. I have a set of CA guages. Wiring wasnt that difficult. Just start with the Haynes wiring picure and trace the wires back to the sender units. Graham TV Hoods

    Gaz Shocks

Mick I have just had a similar thread running. I have 12" Protechs on the front, but with the 8 valve DOHC lump squeezed in. The 12 " are tto short !! I will try and get them re worked to 13". 12" with springs on , part compressed - takes the lower mount to the edge of the brace plate, not up close to the lower ball, as would be ideal. My calc for new ones is - 10" vertical (from top mount to level of mounting on lower wishbone ), parallel to floor. 6" horizontal to mount. With a newly made lower mount I reckon I can get to 7" . This gives the damper an overall lenght of 12.6" on 6 and a bit more for 7". The DOHC lump must be heavy --I saw an entry that suggested the RHE green springs are 380lbs - I have 7 1/2" 350's and they are wound up. The car just flattened my initial 300's. I will try some longer 375s. 9" maybe. The Zeemers mounted within 1/2 inch of the Protechs, they were screwed up about 1/2 way. It was enough to keep the front level. BUt now Ive bent the wishbones ..... Graham

    Caravan Awning Rail

I didnt drill the screen . Its just stuck on.. I have had my whole weight pulling the surrey back - and its still there.. Tiger seal !! Graham
  21. Guys Thanks for the fast responses. I had Protech make, very efficiently, matches for the Zeemrides. 12.5 " eye to eye, 4"movement - 7.5"springs etc. They looked a perfect match length to the old (broken) units. I had always worried about the lower mounting point. To get to the positions RS suggested my nose would have been completely on the ground, - hence the outboard nature of the mount. I wonder what other people with 2B plus wishbones have done to get the right angles? The string to Dave at GAZ indicates 12.5" is the norm. I will measure up, triangulate and post my results.. I think , after consulting the local members at Farnborough this weekend, I will have to bite the bullet and get new lower wishbones, longer shocks ( I hope Protech can just fit new, longer, shafts and get some much longer springs. I was grinding the alloy from the sump and producing sparks ??? on the way back - maybe I had better take it off the road until I get this resolved !! BUT "its good weather" !! Happy Hooding Graham
  22. Hi, I recently fitted some new damper coilovers to my mild steeel chassised 2B plus fitted with a DOHC. After a thousand miles or so have noticed a distinct bend in the O/S rear lower wishbone tube. Is anyone else who has scrapped the Zeemers for "proper" units experienced similar? I will order and replace both sides, but I dont know if its the length of springs I have on 7.5" 350 lbs, bottoming out, or the new mounting point - just about on the edge of the plate ( to get the lower to sit level with th ground ) that must be causing undue stress to the tube ! Any ideas or solutions.---- I really dont want to change them every year. Graham.
  23. Amost exactly the same story as I have to tell Backord Bloor assessor did virtually the same. The figure bought me a complete mild steel kit with some left over. An MOT and back on the road after 15 months. No increase in Inurance premiums for the Hood. Great weather, enjoying myself ---so glad I "rebuilt" the Phoenix.. Graham

    Surrey

You can always try Pete Rae - Thames Valley Hoods, who is a saddler by trade and has made all our Surry's. Material is available from him I am sure. Fieldfarm@aol.com The Caravan awning stuff stuck onto top of the screen works fine. We did it to the Locost about 4 years ago, screws and glue. My RH 2B curved frame surround - glue only ( tiger seal). no problem, hood pulls really tight. Graham
