just recieved my first tax disc renewal form from DVLA. it says i need a MOT as well as insurance. Have the latter. My understanding was that we were exempt from MOT for three years following SVA can anyone provide info that i can show DVLA office that MOT not needed. phil

i had the chap do all the paperwork for me all done over the phone helped me choose a chassis number etc. Whilst i could do it now myself for the cost it takes away the hassel. the good thing is that as an ex DVLA man he knows the system and will sort out any issues that arise such as build up inspections sva dates - reinspections. if you want his details let me know and i will dig out phil

took mine to derby early last year lead in time was then only couple of weeks. suggest you give them a call they will tell you. aslo they have seen a lot of hoods and will answer questions before you go for test. took mine through without screen they had no problem with this. took mine through without spare - not needed for test. if you complete all te forms in advance DVLA will come out and undertake a build up inspection sheffield were more than happy to have a trip out of the office. they will look at docs on proof of age and confirm acceptability - you can make up your own identification number i did and then stapmped onto chassis again ok for both DVLA and SVA. Advantage of build up in advance DVLA local office hold your paperwork and as soon as you have your mac just need to pop in and they issue a reg plate and tax disc immediatly. My DVLA rang me to see if i had passed and all paperwork ready when i drove bace from derby test centre - did not even have to join a que. phil

like everyone else i get popping on over run not a problem i think it sounds great. i had a similar problem to yours once when i had washed the car. did all the checks for air leaks etc but when it dried out the problem resolved itself. Never established why but it must have been a short somewhere in the system. dont know if this is a sensible suggestion but just a thought but you might want to check the wiring on the ecu etc. phil

yes that would be very helpful. If its easier please email me thanks phil

packing works as suggested i had to buy an extra one and try again. best tip dont try to do it by yourself at least two extra pair of hands are needed. apply the pressure slowly and you will get there. phil

My boot lid bit was missing from my kit so i used a piece of thin ply wood which was easy to cut and to cover. In terms of fastening to the rear seat belt support i used again a length of the same ply with holes cut out for the seat belt mounts to go through and then just fastened the hinge to this when it was covered. I think this was an ok solution it is also a bit more robust than the ss sheet which should have been provided. bit difficult to descibe but if you want a pic post me and will send one. phil

i recently replaced my front shocks with GAZ adjustable ones and these transformed the ride of the car. They were £150 from Dampertech (for the pair) who will supply mail order. Dave has supplied to many RHOCAR members and will be able to supply the correct size. I went for 325lb at the front which were fine for me. Dampertech usually have a stand at most kit car shows. Nb the bolts for the RH mounts are slightly smaller than the GAZ ones you either need to drill out to correct dimension or Dampertech can provide a sleeve. I went for the sleeve (which they gave me free of charge) which are of a good quality and avoided any modification to the RH monts and enabled me to use same bolts. web site is:- www.dampertech.co.uk worth considering. phil

Hi any hoods travelling down the M1 on saturday. will be joining at J31 for the trip down. Anyone passing? approx time? phil

i changed oiver shortly after SVA due to poor ride on the RH ones. Front just bolted on the rear ones weld a stud onto horse shoe and bolt in place. phil

thats interesting from the photo i see you have the doors on the inside of the windscreen support had just assumed they went on the outside. But it makes sence. Any more pics of other members solutions welcome as i plan to get sorted over the weekend. Phil

last bit of the build now underway ie hood and side screens. Hood fitted but needed to modify the length of frame to get it to fit in such a way that the doors filled the hole. could anyone help on fitting of the 'doors'. first does the male part of the hindge fit on the door and the female on the screen support? second do you mount the scrren support hinge on the inside or outside of the pillar. Phil

i did exactly the same thing as nicko and it looks much better and also gives more room to fit other bits in eg air filter etc. not too expensive so i would bin the one supplied and get the capri one.

i picked a hot day to do mine but when it came down to it it is easier if you test fit with frame in place mark out and then put frame down. Fix poppers (not all) slide frame back up which does add additional tension. One thing to watch out for however is that if you fix as per brief glimpse on vidoe then the hood ends up in the incorrect position and you wont get doors to fit. The top of the hood basically needs to be in line with the top of the screen and the roll bar ie on my car the hood frame just goes over the roll bar. With regard to the supports right or wrong i just put them as far back as they would go and bolted to the chasis. Will try to add photos. phil

yesterday encountered one section of resurfacing where i am sure no tar was used and the grit was about half inch thick. I could have done with kavlar protection even at 5mph. why do they insist on this method it never seems to work.

ive got a set of front cloth seats from an MR2. you would need to make up sub frame but if they will fit your welcome to them for a small donation. phil

well done that man. at least you limped home my fuel pump packed in on my way back from sva and i returned home on the back of a recovery truck but with mac in hand. enjoy the summer phil

i had my build up inspection from the guys at sheffield. they seemed happy to have the excuse to get out of the office. they wanted the original V5 no mot - you dont need one to register all you need is the mac chassis number needed to be stamped to car - make up your own and put this on the application forms they then just check that the one stamped on car is same as you put on form. insurance not needed if car not on road and inspection at home which sheffield were happy to do as it turnned out i had insurance as was due to take car for sva shortly after reg fee does need to be paid over with forms as does road tax if i remember but they dont cash the cheque for the road tax until you go in with the sva cert. all i then did was take sva form to dvla office and they issued reg no and car tax there and then. i got Jepsom (think thats the name see sva posts) to fill my forms out and submitt for both the sva and dvla. he dealt with everything for £55 i think which was worth the money. he will also sort out any problems such as you have had. its worth having another go with DVLA but they do seem to adopt different approcahes in different offices. phil

give your local sva centre a ring i found them very helpful and if you get them to confirm before you go then they wont fail you. phil
