  1. Sorry if this sounds a bit thick, but by parts only do you mean that if you have an accident then they pay for the parts and you do the work yourself. Obviously I haven't got my hood on the road yet so don't know about kit car insurance. Thanks John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  2. Fitted mine to the front wings using small nut and bolt, fitted the long slim type that came with the kit HTH John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  3. Thanks Al may try that, only question though is the horn push, why didn't i just use the Sierra dash and make life simple for myself or like Mower man suggests mount in the middle, but have gone too far now to change it. http://www.johnskitcar.com
  4. Getting ever closer to the dreaded IVA and will be putting the Sierra steering wheel on just for the IVA. I have placed the speedo and rev counter behind the steering wheel and with the Sierra wheel in place it obstructs part of the speedo. I am sure there must be something in the manual to say you must be able to see the speedo at all times, sure I saw somewhere it said except when turning, but can't find that section. Any pointers would be appreciated, getting a bit paranoid now the IVA is looming Cheers John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  5. Cheers Richard, yes it is the centre console, the speedo and rev counter are behind the wheel, can't take credit for the stitching though, courtesy of my wife. John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  6. I also went with Smiths, not the cheapest but the only company that made a matching clock, not that I am bothered about the time but 5 dials helped the layout. Got them from Green gauges, you can design them on line. http://www.greengaug...instruments.asp Good service too John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  7. How to remember where all the bits went when you strip down and rebuild an engine, this guy has it sorted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daVDrGsaDME&feature=player_embedded Well worth watching John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  8. Try M&M Classics, they do all sorts of trims. http://m-mclassiccartrim.com/ HTH John http://www.johnskitcar.com

    Harnesses

On the same issue I took some photos of my car into my local VOSA Centre and had a chat with the examiner, he told me to take the belts out of the holes and position them around the seat as they would fail otherwise. As before it seems different centres interpret the rules differently. I would suggest ask your local centre what they believe to be the correct way, I found Andy at the Gillingham centre very helpful. HTH John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  10. Just want to sing the praises of Woolies Trims. I emailed them asking for a sample of their black Vinyl, it arrived the next day, unfortunately it wasnt an exact match, I emailed thanking them and asked if they could suggest somewhere else I could try. Louise emailed back with the name of Mark and his phone number. Called him today, guess what, he is the guy I originally bought the vinyl from at the Detling show. So a big thank you to Woolies and especially to Louise. http://www.johnskitcar.com

    Paperwork Help

Yes as I understand it, Simon is correct, it is also a good opportunity to bed the brakes in. http://www.johnskitcar.com
  12. Thanks Guys, I have emailed both as they offer to send a sample so will see if they match. Thanks again John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  13. A long shot I know but does anyone know the name of the company that attends Detling show and is always set up in the second hall on the right as you go in selling vinyl leatherette and all types of trim and coverings. Bought some vinyl off him a couple of years ago and now covering the boot lid and half way through realsie I haven't got enough. Very likely he wont have the exact same vinyl but worth a try. Gone too far now to start again, I do make things difficult !! Thanks John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  14. I ordered a domed badge from Heko for the nose cone of my 2B. Arrived this morning, nicely done. Stuck it onto the Ford badge. I would point out though that the only reason it is domed is that I stuck it onto the Ford badge, the actual badge supplied is flat. Really pleased with the result Their web page if anyone is interested is http://www.heko.co.uk/index.html Cheers John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  15. Silly me, looks like you cant see the thumbnail until you post, !!!!
  16. OK I can build the 2B, well nearly, but I cant upload a picture to a topic. I have resized it down to 300k, browse, attach file, click on that, it appears to load but nothing. What am I doing wrong ? Any help would be much appreciated. thanks John
  17. Hi Colin Don't get too excited about the videos, look on them more as entertainment value rather than how to build the 2B I found Colin Ushers web site invaluable http://www.colinusher.info/Robin%20Hood/index.html Also take a look at the NW owners club site, lots of useful information. Good luck and welcome to the world of the Hoodies John http://johnskitcar.com
  18. Simply put, you can ignore them and they will go away. This explains why; http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=46975 (there’s even a watchdog piece on how to deal with them, which agrees; ) Read this too; http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2010/10/parking_tickets.html And this; http://www.justanswer.com/uk-traffic-law/42x1u-car-park-management-company-parkingeye-able-legally.html Simply, do not enter into any correspondence at all. Totally ignore it. You will receive some further letters, each getting more and more threatening (including mention of bailiffs and whatever else) but they will never visit, and if they do they have absolutely no ability at all to take anything – because, to do that, you need a court order, which they will not have because their ticket is not enforceable in court and the few times companies have gone to court, they’ve lost. Now, the question you must ask is “do you just want to pay the £40 and have done with it, or put up with snotty letters for a while”. My wife did just that ignored them and they went away.
  19. I've been there a few times and spoken to Andy, just turned up, explained I am building a kit car and could i speak to one of the inspectors. Andy was very helpful. Give it a go John
  20. This link may help http://www.caigauge.com/page18.html Cheers John http://johnskitcar.com
  21. I've got one you can have, if someone could tell me how to add a picture you can see what it is like. John http://www.johnskitcar.com

    Roadtesting

There was a thread on this a while back and if I remember rightly, you are not allowed to drive to an MOT if the car has not passed its IVA and is regisiered. The only time you are allowed to drive the car on the road before it is registered is to the IVA test. The MOT does not form part of the IVA, if you want it MOT'd you will have to trailer it to the garage and back. That's my understanding. Cheers John http://www.johnskitcar.com
  23. I agree, would be a big job to make your own, best to buy a pair and modify. I did just that on my 2b, I used rear arches from I think an S7 and modified the rear panel. There are some pictures on my web site. http://www.johnskitcar.com Go to the 6th tab and then Build, I have some more pics if you are interested. Hope this gives you some ideas. John
  24. I agree, you will fail the IVA if you don't secure the anchor points to a solid fixed rail. Also the nuts must be captive. Take a look at my web site. http://www.johnskitcar.com and look under the 6th tab 'The Build' and then the 9th drop down 'Seats & seat belts'. There are some pictures on there and description, hope this helps. John

    Iva Fail

Sorry to hear of the fail but as you say no major disasters, and thanks for going to the trouble of listing all the points, I am not near my IVA test yet but your listing has now given me lots things to double check. Good luck with the retest. John http://www.johnskitcar.com
