  1. As Bob says, you need to speak to the tester to see what he wants. "No displacement device fitted" might just be a note to confirm that you don't have an airbag fitted. Was the car tested with something other than the Sierra wheel? If you use the Sierra wheel and the Sierra column then that's an "approved steering control". You've got the padded wheel, collapsible inner column (the triangular bit) and collapsible outer column (the convoluted part of the outer tube) and that should be enought to get a pass. Having the lower steering shaft out of line with the upper also helps and in practice I think you'd struggle to build a car where the upper and lower shafts were in line
  2. Mark, pm sent can you call me please?

  7. I was sounding people out at last nights area meeting regarding meeting up and travelling up to Donnington on Saturday / Sunday. The response wasn't eactly overwhelming but just in case anyone else is interested, I'm going up on Saturday and can meet at the Malt Shovel Pub, Coventry Road, Nr Stonebridge, Coventry, CV7 7HL https://maps.google....ingdom&t=m&z=15 around 9-00AM SATURDAY for a 9-15 departure if anyone want's to meet up. I'm not sure at the moment whether I'm going up on Sunday as well but I think some of the other Midlanders probably will be going, in which case if you want to meet up on Sunday, post up on here and let everyone know.

  15. Good stuff! Get a wanted ad posted for the strut shafts and hopefully someone will have what you need.
  16. The best £15 you'll ever spend - guaranteed!
  17. Hasn't the Sierra strut shaft got an odd ball thread at one end - something like M11 fine which makes getting nuts for it virtually impossible? That's why some people cut the thread off one end and get the shaft drilled and tapped to take a bolt.

    Lights Switch

What happens if you turn the headlamps on but still have the sidelights switched off? If the headlights illuminate then that's a probably IVA fail if you've got no tail lights on as well because you have no way of knowing they weren't lit from sitting in the drivers seat. The sidelight switching is pretty basic - live feed in to pin 30 and feed out to lights from pin 58. If you've got no sidelights then I'd suspect that there's a problem with the switch itself. Personally I'd test the continuity between these pins with the switch turned on to determine if the switch is faulty and if necessary get another switch. Your 2 switch solution obviously works but I think it complicates IVA.

Perfect opportunity to give your car a run-out before Donnington! Everyone welcome, see you there.
  20. To far away for me - I wouldn't get there until 8-30 at the earliest. I'll be back over when you're at the old venue again.
  21. Assuming it's sliding pillar (see here for identification http://nw.rhocar.org/identification.htm ) then the griding on the inside of the wheel is probable wear that can fairly easily be rectified. Wishbone conversions are available and a few people have done them but they generally don't come that cheap. There's also plenty of cars still running sliding pillars with satisfied owners. Best advise as you've just bought the car is to get the suspension working as it should and get out and enjoy the car. You may then decide that a wishbone conversion isn't worth the additional cost and the money could be better spent on other modifications.
  22. There's in excess of 20 people on this thread who've indicated that they're attending, plus no doubt more who will join on the day. Excellent support for this very worthwhile event - could this be the biggest convoy of cars in the clubs history? I have to echo some of the the other comments on here though, parking looks like it could be a problem. It's not that easy to take over the town when spaces just aren't available and there's a good chance that people without local knowledge of the area will get separated from the main group. I don't know the local area but is there any chance that that a local business with private parking might be approached to provide some parking in return for a bit of publicity? Few pictures and a write up in the local press?

  24. It's the Savlon tank - for rubbing on the burnt bits.
  25. Agreed, he's basically admitting it's a ringer - doesn't make what he's doing right thought. It looks a well put together car, if he tore up the V5 and sold it as 99% complete just needing IVA he'd probably sell it but given the £900 odd it fcosts or IVA, a re-test and first registration - how much is it worth realistically?
