Wouldn't a T5 be a better option? It's hardly any bigger than a type 9, the gear lever is in pretty much the same place,it's a third the cost of an uprated type 9 and bellhousings are easily available.
-
I take it that's the 6 speed Getrag box and you're sick of weedy type 9's? It looks like some of them have an integral bellhousing (6 cylinder cars) but that said, this bloke has fitted one to a cossy YB block by welding on the front end of (presumably ) a T5 bellhousing. Maybe you could do the same thing with the front of an MT75 which would be a cheaper option. http://passionford.com/forum/restorations-rebuilds-and-projects/405850-norwegian-trackday-cosworth-new-part-getrag-420g-6-speed-gearbox.html Post 15 near the very bottom is the relevant bit - the rest of the thread is just interesting reading.

Go with the Sierra wheel for the test and swap to the Mountney without a pad afterwards. Sierra wheel + Sierra column = guaranteed pass

I did wonder if anyone in the club had access to a vaccum forming machine. These would be ideal to vac form (like RC model car bodies) - the tooling is cheap and you could form the 4 parts in one go.

Someone left a note on my car at Donington on Saturday asking about the front wishbone mount covers on my car. Unfortunately I lost the note before I could call them back so if it was anyone on here (who else would be interested?), I made the covers myself from fibreglass. I made a wooden plug which was the size and shape that I wanted the cover to be, laid fibreglass over it to make a female mould and then laid up 4 covers from the mould. Once the parts were moulded, I had to cut holes in them for the wishbone to pass through and to allow clearance as the wishbones moved up and down. They turned out very well but it was time consuming and probably more trouble than it was worth in the long run so before anyone else asks - no, I don't want to make any more.

As Bob says, you need to speak to the tester to see what he wants. "No displacement device fitted" might just be a note to confirm that you don't have an airbag fitted. Was the car tested with something other than the Sierra wheel? If you use the Sierra wheel and the Sierra column then that's an "approved steering control". You've got the padded wheel, collapsible inner column (the triangular bit) and collapsible outer column (the convoluted part of the outer tube) and that should be enought to get a pass. Having the lower steering shaft out of line with the upper also helps and in practice I think you'd struggle to build a car where the upper and lower shafts were in line

It's taken me 7 years to reach 1000 posts so I'm clearly not one to post just for the sake of it. Please permit me to make an exception just this once.

I was sounding people out at last nights area meeting regarding meeting up and travelling up to Donnington on Saturday / Sunday. The response wasn't eactly overwhelming but just in case anyone else is interested, I'm going up on Saturday and can meet at the Malt Shovel Pub, Coventry Road, Nr Stonebridge, Coventry, CV7 7HL https://maps.google....ingdom&t=m&z=15 around 9-00AM SATURDAY for a 9-15 departure if anyone want's to meet up. I'm not sure at the moment whether I'm going up on Sunday as well but I think some of the other Midlanders probably will be going, in which case if you want to meet up on Sunday, post up on here and let everyone know.

Good stuff! Get a wanted ad posted for the strut shafts and hopefully someone will have what you need.

The best £15 you'll ever spend - guaranteed!
-
Hasn't the Sierra strut shaft got an odd ball thread at one end - something like M11 fine which makes getting nuts for it virtually impossible? That's why some people cut the thread off one end and get the shaft drilled and tapped to take a bolt.

What happens if you turn the headlamps on but still have the sidelights switched off? If the headlights illuminate then that's a probably IVA fail if you've got no tail lights on as well because you have no way of knowing they weren't lit from sitting in the drivers seat. The sidelight switching is pretty basic - live feed in to pin 30 and feed out to lights from pin 58. If you've got no sidelights then I'd suspect that there's a problem with the switch itself. Personally I'd test the continuity between these pins with the switch turned on to determine if the switch is faulty and if necessary get another switch. Your 2 switch solution obviously works but I think it complicates IVA.

To far away for me - I wouldn't get there until 8-30 at the earliest. I'll be back over when you're at the old venue again.
