    Seat Belt Mounts

Hi Billy I to cut the runners off mine, but I cut in-between the bars so I still had about four/five inch of a foot left to bolt through the floor (I drilled the rivets out of the runners) I made four 1" X 1/8 strips for the length of the seats and drilled holes to match the seats "feet". I then put one length above and one below the floor (sandwiched) and bolted it all down, there's also a 4" strip that goes across the car, which it all picks up on at the rear and the angle at the front. The seatbelt mounting points were still on the bottom so i used them. I will try and get a piccy if this isn't clear Mitch

    Seat Belt Mounts

Hi All If using the Recaro seats supplied by robin hood. There is a bolt hole fixed to the seat which just happens to be the correct thread (7/16unf this is a test requirement) for the bolts supplied with the seat belts. This is were Vauxhall mount the seat belts thus it is approved. This is were mine are attached with a drop of thread lock. SVA examineer peered down and i explained how i had done it and was quite happy. May help if you take pictures of belt attached before putting seat in. Mitch

    Seen Our Banner?

WHY in gods name would we want a banner with That on. We had much better things to do, than go around in the night nicking banners. Could it not have blown away in the gust of wind, forgot the Westie wimps were under cover. They should have took them down and taken them to the hotel room where the would be safe. To "the boyz" i think by the replys to this you can go and report it back to youre owners club that in all probability you're banner is not here. Mitch

    Fixings

Hi Andy Best thing maybe is to find a local enginnering supplies, get to know the lads on the counter tell them what your making. It's suprising how helpful they will be, pay cash(usally knocks vat off) and buy in bulk as they usally have bigger discounts for a larger purchase. Or wait until Newark and make a big shopping list and buy from there. This way saves on postage and waiting for them to come. You will need a first aid kit as well Mitch

    Bonnet Catch

Hi Neal You will probably have to make somthing up. Ian from Chorley used strips of leather cloth sewn onto them. Or you could change them for the SVA friendly rubber ones as sold by the company that sells the demisters (car builders solutions?) RHE now sell them at £12 a pair i can recommend them as i have them fitted (but paid £16 a pair ) HTH Mitch

    How Fast Am I Going

Hi Lee I think you maybe refering to my speedo. I fitted Capri clocks that i bought from a guy that runs the NW Capri club. I think they must have been bumped at some time as the needle was sitting a good 10mm BELOW the zero .The speeds were constantly out by 10mph. I removed the needle and replaced it at zero and all was fine. Normally the clocks should be fine as the come from the doner. mine are in Taffy Robs and thats one thing that he didnt fail on (sorry rob good luck with the retest) HTH Mitch

    Cycle Wings

Hi Ant It's just thin snap on edge trim. I put a strip of insulation tape on the edge just to make sure it did'nt come off on the way there (you could use glue). This was tested at Chadderton Manchester test centre. No comment was made about how perminant it would be. All other nuts were either nut covered or taped up to remove sharp edge's HTH Mitch
  15. Hi Steve I also had this problem. From memory the green and black goto the pump, then you need to add an earth to the other pump terminal. On my car the twin green are perminantly live (when ign on) and are not used for the pump. Get a cheap bulb type circuit tester and press washer switch whilst checking the green/black wire should light when pressed. Check all connections this way before connecting to the pump's/motors or whatever. it could prevent expensive replacement. HTH Mitch

    Cycle Wings

Neal Hope you don't mind the comment's but i think you have gone to far with the lagging. The only things with "contactable edge" is the nuts, steering extension and the bottom of the shockers heres a pic of how mine passed SVA apart from i have removed tape "thick insulation type"from the shocker base. The round tubes dont have sharp edges so are not a fail point. Go around your car and any point you can see which is'nt 2.5mm radiused either cover or file a blunted edge on. Hope this helps Mitch Good luck with the test

    Cycle Wings

This is how i spaced my wing's, i used 4 tap washers bought from plumbing supplies and a 5mm stainless dome head bolt. There's not much clearance from tyre but as they move together it should never connect.
  18. Hi All Right if you go to the old RHOCAR website. On the links page goto the tyre bible This will give you the difference in the speedo for the differance in the tyres. its much the same as the above link but tells you the speed diferance for the tyres you pick from the standard doner tyres HTH Mitch

    Sva

That's easily sorted. Phone RHE (phone landline NOT tech help)and ask them for a letter stating the correct values. Take this with you for the SVA and when he questions the figures give him the letter, and hey presto one less worry. HTH Mitch
  20. I think it all depends on the woman. Chris my wife help on most stages of building my Hood. Even doing some of the dirty cleaning of the engine. She is reponsable for the dash, quite alot of the painting and all the fiddly nut's and bolt that i could'nt get to with hands like shovel's. Without her encouragement i would probably still be building it. As far as the club goes she as been welcomed by all and really enjoys the trip's and weekend's at the show's. Some women don't mind getting dirty (steady Chris A) other's would rather go to the hairdressers and stay indoors watching Emmerdale than get involved with building the kit's Saying that i did notice quite a lot of women driving kit cars into Stoneleigh last week, whether they built them or not is another matter. I do know of a women that built and races F1 stockcars and was champion for a few years. She was quite pleased that she beat many male competiors. She aslo drives a Ford pop with a Chevvy V8 to alot of American car meet's much to the suprise of bystanders when this little women steps out of a bloody great street rod. Mitch
  21. Here's a pic for Greg to see. I do usally have nut covers on them.
  22. Hi All Checked mine today and all seemed well (1,200mls and 8 weeks) since SVA. Did notice there were only 2-3 threads threw the nyloc nuts, i did put large washers underneath to spread the load but i don't think that would stop it from happening. Is there a link in the supplied batch, what month are the problem ones from? My kit was collected Dec 2001 is that helps. Hope nobody else suffers from this as it could be very risky at speed. May try and get some thinner nyloc's so more thread is threw. But will be keeping a close eye on them from now. mitch

    Info Needed

Yes i did change the details, only don't actually phisically change it. according to the log book my sierra was a 2.0 when it was officially scrapped even though the engine appeared 12 months after the donor was taken away. Don't fit the 2.0 first as i can bet you won't go back to a 1.6 (or not for long anyhow) and you will need insurance to take it to the SVA and MOT and it would be regestered as 2.0 and insured as same. Check the prices for insurance first may save work later HTH Mitch
  24. or do one better and take you're own into the bar with the group in. Now where could they be hiding the beer's For anyone who as yet to meet theses two great guy's It's Simon Cooper and his mate John Ps thanks for the tune up Simon even after all the Guinness you improved my Carb.
  25. In the bars themselves the price was £2.75 a pint (thats if they were pint's) The Nw Hoods decided after two pint's on Sat, that Sunday night would be spent outside the tents supping our own "cream of Manchester" which we brought down with us. I relise they put prices up for the "captive crowd" but they will be putting more people off each year, If it was'nt for the band on Sunday you can bet the bars would be very empty. here's a pic of some of the Nw lot at the camp
