thought you had the old one running nice?
  8. after a bit of engine work, new stem seals, head clean up and head gasket, cocking it all up and re-doing it (simple job if your a mechanic, I am No mechanic!) she will finaly be back on the road this weekend, MOT permitting! took her for a little sneaky test to check all is ok and she is definatly quicker (result!) A Big thanks to Andi (Leicester) for pointing out my silly error making me think i had Fubared the engine, thanks for the loan of the colour tune and thanks for only nearly buring my fense down lol. 12. hi all, i have a few days off next week (wed-fri plus weekend) and want to get the the engine running after i have removed the head and replace the stem seals. I have put her back together but need a bit of help getting her set up and running. i have followed the haynes manual and have had her running briefly (sounded ok while running) but before i could get the strobe connected to setup the timing she stopped. i turned her over again but she would not start. i could do with some assistance to get her set up and running if anyone local is avalable to help, (Tea and buiscuits provided. she is a 2.0l pinto engine std cam running twin weber 45's ( i am ok with the webers but still learning on the engine side) i realy want to make it to the first show this year as i missed it last year as she was not ready so please help. regards keith
  13. ok found an image of someone else's (they did not get an answer on their forum either) mine does not have the square and the j and f letter on it but has 3 circles of paint whcih i dont think show up on my pick. i have looked at piper/kent/crane/catcam/newman but cant see any reference i am guessing it is an old model as above. has any one got any idea's???
  14. sorry t bring this one up again but i still do not know what cam is in my pinto! on recommendation i have looked at the flywheel end of the cam and it has a marking punched in that looks like 160 and the letter A on the end. all the other marking i have establish are just casting markings.i have attached some photo's - the 160 marking could be something else like letter but cant tell as they are puched with a fine punch and an unsteady hand by the looks of it.
  15. thanks timbo unfortunatly i had to do it cold as she would not start for some reason! the throttle was fully open though. I have now read that a cold test is useless but if i am getting 152 psi on cold then it cant be that bad could it? i am hoping to work out why she wont start over the weekend (seems like a fuel issue, she ran out last week and has not started since) and will try a warm test. regrads keith
  16. Hi all, done a compression test this evening on a 2.0l pinto and go tthe following on a dry test 1234 10.5 10.5 11.5 10.5 this is a little below the what the manual says on all cylenders other than 3. question is other than its an old engine does this indicate any issues (Not a mechanic hense the question) was looking to do the valve stem seals as she is smoking at the mo, bit concerned over what i may find once i have the head off. any advice would be a help regards keith

  19. Already tried the coil pack, looked a bit suspect (cracked where the lead plugs in) but made no difference. thanks though
  20. thanks for the replys will try the above, i cleaned the air box but did not touch the throttle body. it was quite filthy so fingers crossed
  21. hi all, i know its not kit car related but does anyone know a good VW mechanic local to leicester they would recommend. The car starts find and runs ok for a short while but then runs like SHt, looses power and sounds rough as. checked leads, plugs etc can find anything. need to get the mrs and master mobile again quick and havent got time to play myself. regards keith
  22. Ive got a didgi dah that has the timer thingy on it.2B 2.0l pinto with twin weber 45's got 0-63 in 6.16sec "on the track obviously" just wondering how this compares no point trying to improve on this if this is about what is expected.
  23. Im more curious as to 0-60 people are getting and with what engine. i think most 2b "on the Track of course not open road mr plod" is around 100 to 110 after that the aero dynamic barrier kicks in and makes for not nice handleing.
