Well I'm truly astonished......10 minutes after putting in the additive all the rattles have gone. Neil, I have hydraulic lifters, but as I understand it the blacktop has solid lifters. If thats the case the additive wont help you im afraid. Try videoing it close to the engine so we can have a listen

Theres summat strange going on here. Its my grandsons 21st birthday next week, so I booked an evening session at Brands on Monday for him to drive. I changed to the trackday tyres & went for a checkout run this morning. I came back with a really worrying rattle too. Top end, intermittent, seems less at higher revs. Sometimes there at idle, sometimes not. Ive got some hydraulic lifter additive from ECP in desperation & I'll be trying it out tomorrow. If it doesnt work, I'm knackered & he''ll have to put up with an MX5 on crappy tyres. Some birthday treat!
  3. look directly down from the top. The hole for the top ball joint is offset. Twisting it will affect camber and or caster, just make sure they are located identically left & right. Also I believe that spacing washers can be fitted to the U brackets to move the entire wishbone back or forwards.
  4. I expected that my MX5 MK3 would be able to tow a small camping trailer, but the logbook states 0KG as the max towing weight. MX websites have lots of info, although MK1s & 2s have a low towing weight specified. There are lots of warnings of being uninsured etc if you try......so regrettably I wont.
  5. Have a grand time, say hi to Steve & Lesley for me.
  6. Had a chilly start for my run to Popham, but the sun got warmer all the way there. I met up with Bob & Sylvia successfully (not always guaranteed!) & had a lovely day chatting with them & watching a couple of dozen small aircraft arriving, parking for closer inspection, then taking off again. Some pilots were clearly very experienced, other were definitely wobbly.....maybe just wind gusts! There was also drone racing (not really my thing) & fixed wing model aircraft. And a barbecue (definitly my thing!), followed by a warm uneventful drive home. All in all, a good shakedown run for France in July. Bob
  7. Alan is right, it sounds too violent to be an engine stopping from lack of fuel. Brakes may be a problem....make sure that there is free play between the brake pedal actuating rod and the master cylinder, to allow brake fluid to return to the M/C reservoir. Is the engine overheating? could it be seizing?
  8. I'm happy being later if that helps? Its raining here first thing tomorrow anyway
  9. They look like old carbs to me, so they may look the same inside. The most likley problem is that the float needles are not completely shutting off the fuel supply. They may just need a clean, or else replacement. The other possibility as Peter says is too much fuel pressure.
  10. Hi Bob, I'm planning to leave home about 8:30 & be there for around 10.
  11. I guess she is going to live in your pond between outings????
  12. This will help with identification plus a few other bits. http://nw.rhocar.org/
  13. Unfortunate name for a boat designer....
  14. Going from hot air to hot wet air.... She looks lovely.
  15. I'm up for a run out this Sunday. See you there?
  16. Ive helped on a couple of Hoods that had this problem. In both cases the brake pipes were fitted along the top of the tunnel, ie higher than the calipers. Both were solved by putting the rear of the car on high axle stands, then using an easy bleed as well as manual pumping. Its a bit of a faff, but you wont be doing it every week.
  17. Now they know there are 2000 potential kit car owners, they will devise a new road tax category where they charge us double for "unknown" emissions levels.
  18. Cheers Steve, I'll pass that on to him. He has to show that he's done the work himself, but I'll be able to point him in the right direction. He is on the autistic spectrum, so he struggles with some aspects of life, but he really lights up when he can see a way forward on anything he does. He has been starting to look a bit down now there is just one thing in his way, hopefully this will help. Many thanks guys.
  19. Guys, a friend's son is doing an engineering degree & he has a project to refurbish a 3.5 Rover to running condition. He has the engine, & all the ancillaries but he cant find a dizzy for it (at student's prices!!!) The engine is either 83 or 85, & needs a female (I dont know what that describes) electronic (not points) type dizzy. Does anyone have any ideas where we might get one for him? The budget is part of the project, so he cant pay big bucks. Ta, Bob.
  20. Did you forget the pic?
