  1. funny you should ention the diff. mines just started whining after a track day at curborough last wednesday. praying its run low on oil (it has always leaked from the filler!) i'm sure tim drives his a lot harder than i do mine (he has lots more power too) and if his is ok a sierra diff should be fine. tim i'll email you.... paul
  2. i got exactly the same advice re 1st gear. with a four speed all you'll do is spin the wheels in it. sd1 box is a good match for me. easy cruising when you want it, and glorious noise when you push it a bit. hearing what you say about 3000rpm at 70 mph tim, i either have a different diff, or my electonic rev counter is about a thousand mph too low!

    Oh Dear

the aa press muppet this morning made me want to throw something at the telly. shocking the sh one T spouted on national TV. exactly where was the story? where were the facts? ok so the AA "think" its a bad idea that young people modify cars. fine. ok show me some facts that demonstrate that people in modified cars make up a disproportionate % of the 500 deaths per year? what no? you dont have any? seemingly not. so tell me again why you went to the BBC (and more to the point why they even aired such tripe) when did it become ok just to make statements and not back them up? what exactly do the AA expecte to get from this? are they actually trying to lobby government to restrict engine sizes for new drivers? raise their own profile? whatever they want, for me all they have to do is show some real figures, scientifically collected that suggest that their hunches are backed up by facts and maybe its then worth a lisen, otherwise its just a silly publicity stunt that reflects poorly on all concerned. paul
  4. vindicator did mine. very happy. also my car was at Aries motorsport over in ilkeston for a couple of jobs and was very impressed with him, and he's a lot nearer than vindicator. paul

    Off I Go

best of luck mate. hope you get a helpful tester paul
  7. cheers. thanks for the advice. it was one of those instances where you have an idea then think.....nah it cant be that easy can it? paul
  8. hello all, now we've figured out that my temp guage works and its the sender thats the wrong part i now need to change senders in the block. it occurs to me that it might be possible to stick a tray under the car whip the existing sender out, collect the water and screw the new one in without having to drain the system and run the risk of airlocks etc. is this stupid? with two of us we figured we could stick a finger in the hole to stop the bulk of the water while the new one was lined up ready to go in, and it might be a pretty quick job. but i have a feeling that this has been tried bedfore with damp consequences.... paul

    Sig Test

first time i saw i spent the whole night on it, mesmerised by all the reports
  10. me neither. thats the problem.
  11. thank you graham. technical help much appreciated! too late for that anyway...the red wine's open
  12. the sprint is called the beast quite often, i think thats down to a combination of the v8 and the looks of a tatty bright yellow vindicator. an old tintop (rover 800) was nicknamed The Duchess by my mates on the way to Le mans one year due to its stately qualities. just bought a rover 75 (2.5 v6) and thats probably going to inherit the name
  13. working fine now. thanks for the advice. all i need to do now is get it out of the mug and in the engine itself! paul
  14. that would make sense. so i need to run a wire from the sender onto the chassi while the senders in my mug? paul
  15. hi all, my temp guage hasnt displayed the correct temp since i got the car, (always reading low; actually never getting above 50) and i put it down to a guage/sender mis match. i've since been onto the makers and bought a sender that matches the guage. it arrived today and i wired it up, turned the ignition on and dropped the sender into a mug of boiling hot water in the hope that this would send the needle on its way. but it didnt move at all. have i done something clueless? cheers paul
  16. another v8 here, this time in a vindicator sprint. pretty standard set up, with su carbs for now. finally got out in it this weekend and seems to go really well with its new coil and magnecor leads. you're right about the expensive year on the cards! worth it though. the best sound in the world. and even when i'm making the tea i can poke my head through the garage door and see the Su's poking through the bonnet in the darkness, and that makes me grin like a loon! paul

    Mirror Positions

at my first test i had an odd pair of mirrors (its that kind of car!) and he was happy with the mirrors ok so next time we fitted the other half of the pair to the passenger side, and the next time he failed the drivers side! infuriating really because he said he was only going to test the mirrors again so his boss could see him put the poles and cones out from his window.
  19. fantastic. congratulations!
  20. rpi are very good. very quick delivery. they do employ possibly the largest ego/rudest person i've ever spoken to in my life though. real steel i think are a bit cheaper. the sd1 forum is quite handy, just dont tell you ripped your v8 out to stick in a kit car! paul you mde the right choice by the way!

    New Hoody

six weeks ago our first baby was born, samuel william. he had a pretty eventful first first weeks, which had me and his mum making all sorts of promises to all sorts of higher powers! he contracted meningitis the day after arrival and spent some time in intensive care and then on anti-biotics three times a day for the rest of the time. we've been home now for the last two weeks though and all is well, apart from the fact that we're nervous wrecks, exhausted and covered in sick/poo at any given time. anyone know any racing seats that take an isofox base???
  23. just been looking through some pics, and spotted this i took at arnage. it must be a hood is it a member on here? Paul
