  1. huge thanks to Nick and Dan for the help today! Daunting task but they didn't faulted!
  2. Late on Sunday is fine by me mate
  3. Sunday afternoon? I've got a member coming between 11 and 12 to collect his car that I've just finished.....we can't really do anything until his car had gone as we will need the space to juggle the machine about.
  4. Don't forget the powerfeed on the quill Just got to get it home....then wire it
  5. It doesn't matter how much room you've got, it's never enough! I'd happily give lessons to people wanting to learn.
  6. My new toy has arrived. Power feed on 2 axis, digital read out and boxes upon boxes of cutters, collets etc...... Hopefully she will snuggle up between the Myford and Colchester in the corner of the workshop....
  7. Oh yeah....forgot you've got them lol. Can do mate
  8. Radders, Thank you for taking the time to post this topic. I for one was not offended by you, and my post (like others) was a suggestion that what you'd wrote may not have been in your best interests as other 3rd parties watch what goes on in this forum - as unclechief puts it "just looking out for a fellow hoodie!" For anyone else wanting to use this topic to inflame the situation all over again, I'm simply removing the posts as soon as I see it.
  9. me and the boss will be coming
  10. This maybe the case, however putting the legal and safety aspect to one side for a minute.......... In this thread you've said what you've said about your drag race with another car........and then on another current thread, you've asked an insurance company to apply a discount to your policy retrospectively?? lol Actively on this site, we have Members from all walks of life, but particularly from the police force, fire dep, NHS front liners as well as solicitors and members representing numerous Insurance companies..........You may want to be mindful of this in future before committing your actions to words on a public forum ......no offence meant
  11. This is probably old news to the more IT literate amongst us, but its news to me having just been scammed. There are thousands of memory sticks on eBay which falsely advertise there storage capacity. I bought one which was 512GB....great. Start filling it up and get to about 8GB and it then starts corrupting the data already stored. I contact the selling who points out the small print to me; "item has not passed quality control tests with the manufacturer hence it's budget price, therefore the usable capacity can vary from 8-512GB. As we can not guarantee what the usable capacity may be, errors may occur once this is reached which will require a format" A quick search of Google "eBay memory stick scams" shows that what they do is basically buy a cheap 8GB memory stick and then do something to the chip which fools your computer into showing it has more storage (i.e. 512GB) than it actually has and they sell it on at a higher price as a 512GB memory stick. http://www.ebay.co.uk/cln/tnimitz0/cheap-512gb-fraud-fake-capacity-usb-flash-drives/167592666015 I've only lost £10 and the corrupted files are not important, but things like this still pi55 me off. Being honest, I didn't know if £10 for a 512GB memory stick was cheap or the right price......having looked deeper after this all came to light, it is obviously 'too good a price to be true'..........oh well, we live and learn.
  12. Another question.....the milling machine motor is 60hz and the rotary converter output is 50hz fixed.......does this mean the milling machine motor will run slightly slower?
  13. 3hp / 2.2kw should be big enough for the milling machine and power feed?
  14. Ivan, really appreciate your input and I'm starting to sway towards the transwave rotary converter. Looking at the link on your last post, it shows a big blue box with what looks like a red 32amp socket. If I was to buy this type of converter, is it as simply as feeding 240volts into the box and then plugging the milling machine into the red socket (change the terminals to star)....and when doing this, my dro's and power feed will work as well?
  15. these are the motor badges.......can someone tell me if this is a duel voltage 3 phase motor?
  16. I just thought rotary and static converters were outdated and the digital stuff was more efficient and have the soft start (don't rotary converters have a motor running all the time inside them?)
  17. yeah it has power feed and dro..........so will the digital phase converter in my last post only run the machine's motor and not the powerfeed and dro?
  18. Cheers guys........well the bridgeport has now been bought. Too much of a bargain to say no. I'm just waiting on a photo of the motor spec plate but in the mean time, this looks good; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-HP-DIGITAL-240V-415V-3-PHASE-INVERTER-CONVERTER-LATHE-MILL-DRILL-/150847498244?hash=item231f362804 Next problem is moving the bl00dy thing into the garage!!!
  19. I'm almost committed to buy a bridgeport milling machine which has a 2hp 3-phase motor. My garage is single phase so I'm going to require a phase converter. What I've gathered so far is the phase converter needs to be rated for 2hp.......and digital converters are probably better then static and rotary (just going from what I've read - no experience myself) I've found this on ebay....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2hp-1500W-IMO-Jaguar-CUB-Inverter-Single-to-Three-Phase-Digital-Converter-VFD-/152009215455?hash=item2364748ddf:g:hMsAAOSwoudW4A2N First question is......is this what I need? It says 8amp output (which doesn't sound a lot to me but I don't know if things are scaled down when you get into 3phase supplies)......also the output voltage is 240v......I thought 3 phase was higher voltage (400v)? Could someone kindly point me in the right direction as I'm a complete novice with this kind of stuff (never dealt with 3 phase stuff before). Cheers
  20. Congratulations to you both!!! Sorry we couldn't be there on you big day......looks like you had an amazing day

  22. Through Rhocar I have made some of the best life long friends. It's so much more than a club. Ps.....members also get pretty good discounts and preferential treatment from redseven engineering
  23. Good work.......however I don't think anyone in the history of kitcars has reached the bottom of their 'to-do' list......it's like trying to reach horizon!!
  24. Hi Chris, If you're planning a 1 day visit, I would recommend Sunday 1st May - Also if possible, plan to stay late so you can get yourself down to the RHOCaR camping area (even if you're not camping) and enjoy the hog-roast which the club provides and the general banter and chitchat between club members. Finally, please don't be shy to introduce yourself...jump into conversations and have a laugh....that's what we're all there for!!!
  25. Megan has finished her 2nd hoody portrait and about to start number 3;
