  2. Decided to have a big spring clean whilst the car was in the painters for the weekend and have just taken all the pictures off my phone so enjoy! put new roof on garage Compressor stopped working, fault was soon found That problem won't happen again Messy garage Now tidy
  3. Nice, first things first, get that ghastly paint off the chassis and do a nice new spray job. How is it for alignment? is it a self built chassis or a properly jigged factory built one? I remember when i was making mine, it was very difficult to get the thing perfect without a jig. Do you know what spec steel was used? Looks like a fun project, keep us updated on progress. ste

    Which Sat Nav?

i have a tomtom one v.2. absolutely brilliant. my other half uses it as she does bodyshop at home parties and says it always takes her to the persons door. it is cheap, not overloaded with functions and very simple to use. has some nifty features like finding nearest hospital, police or doctors etc it is now superseded by the v3 which i must assume to be better still
  5. got an 8foot square walk in fridge next door to the garage and telly and armchair are upstairs. didnt want any fires when i was welding and grinding!!! the car is on a 15 foot square piece of carpet!! btw, those wheels were to get it from the painters, here it is now with its proper ones on still putting on lights and seats etc!
  6. Just got it back from the body shop, and now starting to bolt on all my newly painted bits. at last, no more welding and grinding and getting dirty.
  7. i got 8 52-55mm ones on eBay for £15 delivered. I dont need all of them so if anyone is interested i can swap for beer tokens
  8. Was just browsing around and found this site CLICKY It's about 75 quid and has loads of features and is SVA OK and passes MOT tests. would look nice i think
  9. I used some stuff called PRC DeSotto or something, got it when i was in the RAF, it is used to seal the fuel tanks on fighter planes. made a flange with a 2" neck then put a squirt of the PRC aroung the hole and used some self tappers to hold it in place. The PRC is strong enough to hold it but the screws are just belt and braces really, then it was a 90 degree fuel filler bend from tweeks. I dont think its a part to skimp on or bodge as it is a fuel tank full of explosive petrol at the end of the day.

    Megajolt

i used ones from halfrauds, for the escorts and orions, i needed them to go between the ford coil and vaux engine, they had plastic extenders to get them on the spark plugs but i unclipped them and they work a treat. i still haven't got a rev counter on the lap top working yet but haven't spent much time on it as it runs fine on just the edis, im prepping it all for painting now, so all that can be done later btw halfords trade card makes thier prices similar or cheaper to normal motor factors
  15. I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women Differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart. FOR EXAMPLE: One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, "I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me." I said, "WHAT??!! What was that?!" So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear... "You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man." She responded to my puzzled look by saying, "Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?" Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep. The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take, so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said, "Lets get a pair for each outfit." We went on to the jewellery department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you... she was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, "That's fine, honey." She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation, she finally said, "I think this is all dear, let's go to the cashier." I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, "No honey, I don't feel like it." Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled, "WHAT?" I then said, "Honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman." And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added "Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?" Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either....but at least that b*tch knows I'm smarter than her.

    Engine Options

My initial thoughts are why such a big engine? i personally went for a c20xe and have fitted it with weber carbs, this is a 'fairly' light engine for the power and is nice and compact in the engine bay. i know the V6 appeal is the noise but i'd much rather have a car that goes better than it sounds. The engine i would have loved to have fitted was a pug 106 gti engine, these are easily giving 200bhp with cams and TBs and are a fully alum engine and really light. the main thing in all this is; it's your decision, we are all able to build our cars how we want to, not having to conform to any set down rules. good luck though as it can be frustrating and head scratching work, but when its running there is a huge sense of achievement. here is a pic of my engine bay

    Welding Gas

also, use argon, well a mix of argon and CO2, like ferromax or coogar, its more money but you will get a better weld as the penetration will be increased.

    It Starts!

after a long long time i have just started the engine for the first time and it sounded amazing. it is an early c20xe vauxhall engine, rebuilt and running weber 45's and megajolt. started it just using the ford edis ignition and next will wire up the megajolt and tune her up. what a relief that it ran so sweet after all the tinkering. end of build here i come!!
  22. Actually they really aren't that difficult to understand. what gets most people is the fact that generally if there are 4 engines there are 4 of everything so there is just loads of stuff repeated, then stuff like radios, there maybe be 2 or 3, one that you use and a backup. I was an avionics tech in the RAF so as well as learning what all the boxes do an d how to use them we had to know how to fix them too. really not that hard, all they need to know is the knob that turns on auto take off, the one that selects auto pilot then the one for the ILS that auto lands it for them.
