on a static brake test ie the car not moving the compensator has no effect on the brakes so if the brakes are poor there will be another reason self adjusters not adjusting, worn linings, air in rear half of brake system or something like that. the compensator has a ball bearing in it which moves in a chamber as the car slows down, this movement restricts the braking force being sent to the rear brakes to stop the rear brakes locking up before the fronts and so avoiding unexpected end swappy i'm sure i was going the other way moments steve

talk about bad timing, my annual leave/hols from work are all preset and next year am off from 25th may til 11th june so will have to try to change leave block, or get to use some bank holidays or get someone to stand in for me if i am going to make it there steve

ron when i shortened the cable on mine i didnt fancy the "smack it with a big hammer and get your numbest mate to test it" method so i took it along to the local chandlers (like a car spares shop but for boats for those of us with no sea legs) who make up steel cables in different sizes. he cut it to length and pressed on a new ferrule with a twenty ton press for £5 - proper job. steve

caught in the act - motorcyclist checks hoods to see which looks best for a back scuttling!!
-
mick sorry no one got a pic of the motorbike but you seemed so calm about it that i dont think any of us realised that the silly sod had done any damage to your car. should have done one for insurance cos he brought it on himself slipstreaming you all the way down the hill, the silly old trout! steve

found this in the motor museum today as well apparently it set the acceleration record back in 1965 of 0-150 mph in 10 seconds. has 2 turbinique jet engines running on nitrous and oxygen, 4 inch cart brakes and your backside is about 2 inches off the floor steve

this is the little motor museum that opened up specially for us when we arrived had a bit of a delay getting in while micky removed a motorcyclist from under his rear - ouch! then the run back into Llangollen in convoy Duncan may have sorted a deal with the museum owner, but he can tell you all about it steve

good point peter, hadn't thought of that, i saw the stuff advertised in a motorsport catalogue so its probably not suitable for road going cars just track cars steve

is the fuel outlet on the tank on the opposite side from that which the fuel is forced to by the forces generated during cornering? if it is you have to stop the fuel moving about, you can get fuel tank foam for this job, comes in small cubes that you push down the filler, it absorbs the fuel and stops it sloshing around. its a bit pricey but is an easy fix, but saves stripping car and buying baffled tank steve

brian yes the 38mm angle is fixed at each side to the rectangular plates used to locate the sierra axle with m10 bolts and nyloc nuts steve

mine is a 2001 2b kit and came with locking plastic sierra filler cap so i had to start from scratch and this is what i came up with aero filler cap £70 - ouch but nice and slim, no edge worries at test and non leaking 2 inch petrol pipe with 90 degree bend and a tank flange to connect to the tank £20 for each. fixed the flange to the tank with self tappers and a good dose of chemical metal. because the filler, sender and flange are all air tight i put a breather through the sender to allow air into the tank as fuel level drops using a piece of 8mm copper pipe and a modified one way valve from a brake bleed kit and some more chemical metal all parts are from merlin motorsport but are available from other sources steve

got fully reconned calipers for mine from local motor factors £25 each on exchange steve
-
ron i think metros used to have something like that on them, but not 100% sure. TIFOSI do a purpose made 2" angled filler neck and cap for £45 plus p+p etc steve

brian as promised, finally got out to take the pictures and post them interior shot shows bolt going through tube in front of seat under car shot is of the subframe i made up last shot is all in situ the harnesses look fine hope these help steve

nigel the set up i'm running is very similar to the one you are showing only difference is i fed the return from the swirl pot into a T connection in the fuel line between the tank and low pressure filter. used a facet solid state road pump for the low pressure side, a myson air seperator from a plumbers for the swirl pot (copper pot with 4 connections, 0.25l capacity- over a miles worth of fuel at 28-30 mpg and only £ a vauxhall cavalier/calibra injection pump and filter cos it will lift fuel about 300mm rather than being gravity fed so allows a bit of scope for fitting. just over 600 miles so far with no surge or vaporisation problems - theres the kiss of death! steve

nick have you thought about using one of the rectangular extractor fan hose connectorshttp://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.js...=30631&id=18905 and some ducting to allow a remote filter. maybe you could cut it down to the right height and use foam/sponge to form a seal round the top of the carb steve ps you have pm b**ger that didnt work, but its in screw fix under ducting

hi all well as i'm working all weekend and there's naff all on tv on a friday night, decided to get wrapped up get the hood out and have a couple of hours gratuitous petrol wasting. absolutely brilliant, major roads, minor roads and finished off with a tour round manchester airport with youngest son, the noise going through the underpass at international arrivals was pretty impressive! anyway as the title says turn your tv off and get out there steve

hi peter if you get enough interest to get some made put me down for a pair please steve

phil did my sva without a screen, to cover the heater vents i used 2 pieces of half round wooden trim from b+q sanded the ends to make them nice and round and sprayed silver fixed from under the bonnet with a couple of small screws and flat washers through the vents. for rear view mirror i chopped the mounting on the donor mirror then put a 3 inch piece of tube between the 2 parts then drilled through the base and bolted on to the bonnet as near to the rear edge as poss still there now but have shortened the pipe so mirror now just gives me a view over the cross tube for the upper seatbelt mountings steve
