Dashboard Design

I'm just doing some dashboard layout ideas and after getting the GBS dash and seeing how narrow it is, it seems a tight squeeze to fit the main speedo and rev dials behind the wheel.

The layout looks quite good with the speedo and revs in the middle of the dash but I'm wondering if anyone else has that sort of layout and finds it annoying ie. having to look down and sideways to see the speedo or revs rather than just straight ahead?

Thanks Dave, I've seen your blog before but always wondered if that layout was awkward. Good to hear it works...

Where did you get that strip of warning lights?

I have a Vapor digital dash which sits in the centre of the dash. It shows revs and speed. Not really my kind of thing but it was in the car when I bought her....it has really grown on me!

I have that dash with the center mounted speedo in my 2b.

Speedo and revs no problem.

3 of the other 4 gauges cannot be seen without screwing my neck around in different directions.

I think with the speedo and revs separated more in the center, two gauges between them one on top of the other and then remaining two gauges outside of them might be a better option.

Unfortunately GBS decided to renew the dash without asking how I would prefer the layout.

The Superspec came with the middle section of the dash angled back about 10 degs so the instrument cluster (Escort) was close to right-angles to your vision when you looked at it. One of the few good things about the car :) Highly recommended if you can do it.

The strip of lights came from Europa Spares

most of the cobra dashboards are center. Have a look on google images and you'll see what i mean. Mine is center too and doesn't cause me a problem. Once you know the car you tend to know roughly what speed you are doing anyway so only needs an odd glance every now and then. No point looking at the fuel gauge in these cars as who knows what it means :)
