Carb Rebuild

My experience of exhaust valves not closing properly could be heard

as an odd exhaust sound.

If the engine is running smoothly, not missing, no misfires,

then main suspect is ignition timing.

Fuel problems can generally be heard as pops & bangs

It pops back through exhaust on overun quite a lot and is also got a slight hesitation when reved from idle

It revs up fine standing or seems too it feels like mainly under load the problem is the but seems to drive fine just power slow issue

Going to try stus carb on Wednesday on mine to either pin point or eliminate carb

Problem is if was ignition timing it wouldn't start as well as does

I looked at this and thought it may be of use.

You possibly have a few issues going on so you/we need to eliminate one at a time.

Work on the free stuff then look at the ones that may cost you.

But as you have built the carb, is it set correctly?

Air/fuel/compression/spark. It's all an engine needs. Unless its diesel

Tried stus carb on tonight and it's the same as mine so that's carb eliminated so wondering about gearbox to diff ratios as upto 50ish and setting off can paint in 1st and 2nd but then again did 80 at least it's just since red pinning then wouldn't tick over

I thought you originally said this happened after you had a little spin on a wet day.

Was it ok before that.

125 psi is very low for pinto compression figures.

Using the oil in the bores is usually used checking if valves or rings faulty. Not used when all compressions are equal.

Are you sure it is not a van or minibus engine. Or even one built for turbo fitment. Are you sure the test gauge was accurate.

If I were you I would just use it until engine change time actually comes.

Never forget your priorities though Jaimo.

If you have to work on your house and car at the same time, I'm sure you are sensible enough to pick the kit first.
