Zetec Flywheel

Looking to replace my flywheel as the one i have (original 2.0 zetec) seem a bit worn on the ring gear. I am struggling to find a solid replacement (At a reasonable price) so have looked at lightened ones. After reading up on the pro's and cons i am bit concerned that changing it would make the car horrible to drive.

does anyone have a zetec zero with a lightened flywheel that can share their experience on drivabiltiy?

cheers

My redtop has a lightened flywheel, its obviously also a similar 16V engine to the Zetec.

I drove it with the original first, then the lightened one,

which had (IIRC) 4KG machined off it.

There is a difference, but it hasnt made it in the least bit horrible.

My gut feel is that 1st and 2nd accelerate a touch quicker...but I could be

imagining it.

Down changing is certainly different. The engine slows down much quicker,

so I blip the throttle going down into 3rd and 2nd.

4th and 5th are very close so I dont need to.

I reckon a much lighter (race) flywheel would make it difficult to pull away

without using higher revs.

I cannot say in a kit keith

But have drove a escort zetec with a 5.5kg flywheel and once used to it spinning up quicker and slow down faster definatly better feels alot more responsive

As bob says in a car may have to blip throttle prob wont need to in zero as car alot lighter

But should only need to do that with slow gear change

Definatly worth it

I put the retroford lightened flywheel drilled for a pinto clutch in mine. No issues pulling away and I liked the feel, good mod on in my eyes!

I had a 4.5kg flywheel in a 2.0L 3SGTE engine, was a dream to drive if you ask me. Like a zetec it was a 2.0L inline 4. So with a zero being 500kg lighter it would be even better. The biggest thing I noticed was how fast you can build revs in low gears, you can also blip it in neutral and it is much more responsive than standard.
