    Car Tax

Hi All, My 2B is currently on SORN and I want to get a Tax Disc to run from 01/04/10 Has anyone manged to get a pre-dated tax Disc on-line, or am I going to have to get in the queue at the Post Office on the hallowed day? The only option I get online, is for the Tax to be valid for this current month onwards and I'm beggared if I'm going to give our nice government a penny more than I have to. Also, is it going up to £205 for 12 months, as of 01/04/10? TIA
  2. Where are ProDrive Phil? Could you post a link?
  3. ... and there's me thinking there wasn't one MP in the UK worthy of my vote! Ditto all of the comments - Vote RHOCaR !!
  4. I went last year and really enjoyed it. I'm up for another trip, but was thinking of 2011 I could be convinced on a trip this year though

    Zero Skills?

Hi Stew, Firstly, Welcome OK, I can't comment specifically on the Zero, but I've built a 2B. I understand that the Zero is a good kit to build and the quality/machine accuracy is a lot better. This should mean that the Zero kit goes together quite well, which is refreshing. You have to realise that 'Robin Hoods' are a fairly 'budget kit'. If you pay more up front for a Caterham or Westfield, you'll probably get a better build, but you won't get a better build experience IMHO. You'll also end up with a car that's just like every other Caterham & Westfield on the road. They say that if you can build a Robin Hood, you can build anything. Sure, not everything will fit perfectly, but this is the whole point and this is where you get the chance to ponder, use your brain power and make the car your own. There's good Robin Hoods and there's bad (mine's something in between) and that's just the point. Some builders go to extreme lengths and endeavour to get everything perfect. Other builders just want their own car that they built on the road ASAP and are not as particular. Either way is OK by me and also OK by the rest of us I'd say. That's what makes us a great community and a thoroughly nice bunch of guys from all sorts of backgrounds and with all sorts of experience. I could ramble on, but I think you get the idea. I love my Hood and we all share the same passion.

    Gearbox Cable Boot

Hi Andy, I remember looking high & low for one (scrappies, ebay etc) - to no avail. I ended up getting one from the local Ford dealer - Surprisingly, it wasn't very expensive!

    Garage Space

I'm a lucky boy. 17feet square and carpeted. Workbench, pillar drill, bench grinder and plenty of tools. I do know though of guys who've built their kits very well out in the open.
  9. Here's my pitch. Whilst I'm NOT in favour of speed humps, I cannot say I'm against them either. What's most important though is their profile. Here's an example: On my route to work, there is a section of road that our beloved council decided to put some on. It's a bit of a posh area (lots of large houses - probably owned by councillors - paid for on expenses...... ) sorry wrong rant thread Anyway, traversing these 'mountains' was really quite a chore. They were quite tall, but it was really the profile that was all wrong. The idea of speed humps is that they should be designed to keep traffic speed down - Not stop it! If you'd have tried to take these at 30mph, they'd have written you off. 5mph max was all you could take them at and even then it was like trying to jump up a curb. So, I emailed the council via their website and lodged my 'opinion'...... Beggar me! A few days later an actual human being from the council telephoned me. They'd been out to take a look see, agreed that the profile was all wrong and said they they'd see to it ASAP. It took awhile, but in the fullness of time, they were duly re-profiled. You can hit them at 20mph now and they're quite smooth. Result. Oh, I should add that there's two basic types as well: Those that go right across the road and those that are just a bit of a blob in the middle of the carriageway. It's the latter that cause most problems for Kit Cars. Whilst general tintops can just about straddle these with impunity, you're in big trouble if you try this in a Kit Car. What sort are they putting in by you Steve?
  10. OK, thanks for your replies so far Guys. Right, it seems that it's one of two things. 1. No chassis modifications = IVA not applicable. 2. Chassis modifications = IVA applicable. I cannot answer this question, but I've passed the link for this thread on, so that he can digest & progress with VOSA.
  11. ... 5. OK, last one for now. This edge seems too sharp to me. I think I'll be giving him the link for Woolies. I didn't want to sound alarmist, but as we all know, the SVA was expensive and the IVA is even more so. I'd hate him to get knocked back on such fundamental things. Or, is it that Beach Buggies are subject to a completely different set of regulations? All comments/pearls of wisdom would be much appreciated. TIA
  12. ... 4. Surely, he won't get away with the rear wheels protruding like this?
  13. ... 3. There's an Air Filter and a fan belt cover yet to be fitted, but is an exposed engine still OK? He has some cans to go on the exhaust, but is under the impression that Noise levels don't apply - Is this true?
  14. ... 2. This is the dash. Are these switches OK? Will he be needing some edge trim in the steering wheel spokes? There's no Demist for the windscreen? The wipers don't have a Park facility. He say's that 60's Dub's didn't have one? Does he need a Brake Fluid Reservoir Warning Light?
  15. ... I'm a bit concerned for him though with regards to IVA and having absolutely no experience of this particular marque, I thought I'd ask on here. 1. I've pointed out the obvious stuff, like the need to cover pretty much all sharp edges. SVA Nut Covers & Edge trim etc.
  16. Hi Folks, Just been round for a long overdue visit to my daughters boyfriend's house. He has a Manx Beach Buggy kit very near to completion and it's looking really good.
  17. Hi All, Been away last week and have just caught up with this thread - Excellent idea! I'm based in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire and would be happy to help wherever possible. Plenty of nice places to visit around my neck of the woods (Knaresborough, Harrogate, Pately Bridge, Fountains Abbey, The Dales etc. etc) and would be willing to collect, make logbook entries and relay to wherever. Count me in.

    Les Welsher

Hope you had a good Birthday Les. All the best.
  23. No, the std RH offering isn't re-packable. I cut a letterbox slot in mine to get inside it and then fabricated a plate to seal it all up afterwards.
