I would remove the sender unit and fit a filter onto the feed pipe on the sender unit, this will save you removing the tank and stop the mastic getting into the fuel line

This type of fitting to a steering shaft is unbelievable, I cannot see any manufacture using it .I would contact whoever built it or supplied the kit and ask them to supply the correct parts free of charge

should make no difference where the connector is fitted

I used the "back to tank pipe" on the sender unit to vent mine, with tubing as high as possible. The tank fills ok but when full, and I take a left hand bend fairly fast, petrol comes out the tubing, so I have removed it and have a small hole in the filler cap instead.

Same problem years ago. changed the plugs and it fired straight up I have also known if WD40 or any water repellent has been used near the plugs it acts as a penetrating oil and can get between the plug body and the porcelain causing poor starting when cold.

If its ticking over and revving ok I think the carb is ok Is the tank vented.I would try another coil and check the live connection at the 3pin plug beside the distributor.and the pipe from the tank to the carb

Think long shaft is the drivers side and I would think twice about renewing the cv joints as they normally last for years
worked on sierras for ages and hardly ever changed one (only fitted new rubber boots)
