    Garage

I cannot make it any bigger - 8m x 3m is all I have to play with at the end of my garden This is so I can move everything out of my garage and store in in here until I get the garage repaired (roof collapsed late last year and is being held up by sticky tape and tacks). Ahhhhhhh...Phil, fancy building a 2 story extension where my existing garage is?

Done a spot of DIY myself on a few nights I was free this month (which if you know my work and play for August is very limited):

    Bike Carbs

Hiyaaaaa Dudes..... Same as Janis, easy peasy, lemon squeezy... Manifold bike carbs regulator throttle cable tune up. BIKE CARBS: Depending on the engine type and CC - decides the jet sizes, example: 2.0 Pinto can get away with 1.5 - 1.6 jet sizes on the bike carbs. These can easily be bought from DANST (http://www.danstengineering.co.uk/) or drilled out yourself. MANIFOLD: Type of manifold and vacuum air inlets are dependant on whether you have a brake servo or not. example: I have an servo assisted gearbox and brakes, so needed to split the air and recalibrate gearbox. The inlets are also useful for attaching a bike carb balancer and tuning the carbs to the main one ( )You can also get a vacuum balance pipe from DANST and use this to connect to the dizzy for the vacuum advance or just cap them off after balancing the carbs. A mistake I made when setting them up (too much air and the car ran like a dog). Fuel REGULATOR: Required to restrict the flow to the carbs and stop flooding and having and engine bay that smells like a petrol station. Setting this to the desired PSI, depends on the make model of bike carbs. Mine are CBR900RR and can be set to around 2 PSI. Other infamous members TRACTOR advise purchasing the bike carbs and the associated bike pump to get the correct PSI and no leaks. Throttle CABLE: £2 for halford's bike cable and a couple of screw on nipples from eeeeeebay. OR buy a dedicated cut to size throttle cable from the eeeeebay. Tuneup (RR): If they are untested carbs, wrong mixture or don't seem to be running correctly, then rolling road or ask on here for advice. For me it was a worthwhile investment, as I was running a heavily restricted 1600 weber carb on a 2.0 Pinto (very frugal, but very slow). It now runs much better, faster, but the weight and restriction of the torque converter on the gearbox is now the sticking point. I'm also just running a bog standard 2.0 (no fancy cam or computer assisted jiggery pokery). Download this and have a good read and the most expensive part of the journey will be your time and patience: http://www.classicfordmag.co.uk/files/2011/07/CLF166.bike_.pdf Cheers Dino & Nikki
  5. Oh.....Nikki will be so happy.
  6. Oooooo...Rich that was well and truly a low blow. Very funny and you better dive for cover at the midlands meet-up.
  7. I really wanted an extension on the house and new roof, but cannot afford it. Got to work hard, think big, stay healthy, have friends and above all be patient. Getting there is a completely different thing. We've all got to have dreams....just that mine are a little more logical, smaller and realistic in scale..... Compare to some other people: 20 cars, yacht, island, 6 holiday homes, nanny, butler, lifetime supply of vodka and chocolate. I think kids these days are stretching a little too far and watching too many reality TV muppets.
  8. Funds will be going towards building a new workshop, extending garage and putting a new roof on it. The rest goes on the 6 speed conversion. Then I will have enough room for a scooby powered storm 3 seater or a zero.
  9. So there's another one crossed off the list Shame, I loved his show based on Speed and the record attempts. What about Brian Johnson? Great singer, mad about cars, and has a famous surname
  10. Sulk over and the bill was a lot cheaper than originally quoted. Required diagnostics, 1x new injector, couple of hours labour and resetting the CPU to get pressure and ignition stable. Car now runs like a dream again and sounds a lot better - big test will be towing the van this weekend. Absolutely bizarre how 1 faulty injector can make the car run so badly and affect the gearstick and movement of the transmission\engine. Ian/Shaft (....I must make sure I get them the right way around): Should have a little more grip and revs when reversing the van next time and less stalling. Also shows you guys have a highly tuned ear when listening to the engine (Stoneleigh). All advice from everybody appreciated.
  11. Considering that Chris will also still be doing the radio show....he will be based in the studios a lot. Meaning a more chat show hosting type format for Chris. Next they will have to introduce another other famous star to keep the chavs interested and has an outspoken opinion, but also needs to travel and have no long term contracts restricting him to the studio. and finally a ex-racing/rally/driver/biker....who knows how to race cars and review them and provide an opinion (example...Guy Martin). They will still keep with the same tried and tested format, but remove the expensive travelling from A to B via car and trying to get killed documentary style specials Things that will probably stay and Chris will host: Star in a car Car News Occasional classic car review. Things for Guy Martin: Travelling Record attempts Bizarre vehicles. Racing The third presenter maybe (Dermot O'Leary) or a sports personality, reality TV star or a nobody and put out to the vote like they did with Richard Hammond. I would rule out the popular Philip Glenister unless they poach him from channel 4/ ITV for more money, as he already hosts a car show and has a TV contract for a drama. I imagine Chris will have a little input on who he wants helping him out and he knows a lot of famous people. I will more than likely watch it, unless they pick a presenter or change the format so dramatically that I cannot stand it.
  12. Yep...been recommended a diesel specialist locally and he has quoted me half the price (at the most) and will also link up his computer and assess if all 4 really need replacing. If not, then he would only recommend changing what is required ( no point changing what is not broken) unless we really want all 4 doing at the same time. Even better.... he can squeeze us into his schedule early next week.

    Oil Filter

Good, cos I will need a custom bracket made to fix my 6 speed gearbox to the kit.
  14. OK, Car has been in garage to see what was really wrong (as the mounts were fine). Seems the revs are very low and causing the engine to sound awful, car is very under powered and the gear stick is still shaking. Put the diagnostic computer on it and the outcome is: This all seems to be down 2 of the injectors are leaking and they all should be replaced. 4x diesel injectors pipes and labour +VAT.....quoted a grand total £2000.... Just going to sulk for the next week (as it was my kit car money). Meantime, I will be hunting around for more quotes (as I know I can at least get the injectors cheaper than the dealer prices)
  15. I would rather pay tax payers money for Top Gear or Doctor Who, or a really good drama/thriller like Spooks, Luthor, Murphy's law, etc.... than the usual drivel that's on. I'll take Top Gear any day, over pop idol, x-factor, dancing or any crap reality TV rubbish they keep regurgitating. Yes it got tired, but the viewing figures prove otherwise - that there was still an interest. The question is, can the BBC bring it back fresh and exciting and still keep the viewers happy with the new production/presenters teams. Or was it really popular because of the format and the presenters - only time will tell. Meantime, I will continue to pay my licence just to watch the BBC news every morning, cos there is nothing else on

    Exhuast

...Ken, the width isn't the problem....its the length. Nothing worse than it coming up short and getting burned.

I'm after a heat-shield, will it fit my cherry bomb exhaust?
  18. Sorry if this has already been said, but is anybody going from the malt shovel on Sunday? Just quickly putting the feelers out as this is the first time I have managed to get on the forum this week.
  19. Couple of pictures from last nights showing...aaahhh
  20. Due to the fact my pedal box at the moment has 2 non standard pedals fitted to a sierra pedal box and half a clutch pedal (not really fit for purpose). So the pedal box will need renewing, one way or another. If I go this route, then I will also look at removing the brake servo. Should I go floor or top mounted pedal box - Anybody got any preferences/opinions on this? Options: Look for a shiny new pedal box with reverse brake and clutch cylinders built in and re-route all the clutch and brake lines to the new cylinders, is this correct? Purchase a pedal box from kit spares (bias type), remove servo and retro fit the pull slave cylinder Chris suggested......Possible??? Pilfer the tat yard for RX8 pedals/slave and master cylinders and fudge this into the kit and re-route hoses. Or even source & fit a standard Sierra pedal box, (I like this option (except the price of the clutch kit) as it seems the least complicated) Add a hydraulic clutch kit (http://www.ebay.co.u...=item235103e384) Remove brake servo and add and longer rod to the existing brake cylinder - (http://www.tigerracing.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=278&zenid=ro7i996m0t2irpad81f42kg4i2). Re-route hoses. My only worries will be if I need to strengthen the floor (floor mounted box) or fitting the pedals around the steering column (top mounted box)....etc. Has anybody had any experience on changing the pedal box and what issues/pitfalls to look out for?
  21. Can anybody recommend any kits or advice on hydraulic clutches. I know completely nothing about clutches, flywheels and cylinders etc... So before wasting any valuable time and money, I thought I should consult the experts Then over the next couple of months study hard and keep a look out for any bargains. Once again, I thank everybody in advance, as it is a huge learning curve and highly appreciated. Cheers Dino & Nikki FYI - I don't know if you require this info, but it will be a 2.0 pinto, possibly mated to a RX8 transmission (TIA - Ian & Carole for the idea) Phase One: Save Money (processing) Phase Two: Upgrade gearbox to cater for future engine upgrades.(Data collecting, as above) Phase Three: Engine upgrade (pick engine) PS - luckily as a get out of jail free card, I will always have the auto and hopefully a 4 speed
  22. Oh Dan, oh Dan, oh Dan.....I hear the cries now..... Make sure you take care when polishing that knob. Too much polishing and it's too slippy. Not enough polish and it becomes sticky. If your unsure about the quality of polishing, then ask the wife........(but make sure your beyond throwing distance).
