  1. My Exmo was built from a 1.6 doner The drums are 8 inch and has solid disks at the front I am thinking of updating the disks to vented from a 1.8 or 2.0 Does anyone know if they will fit straight on with the original calipers as they are a different diameter or do I need to change hubs for replacement calipers too? Cheers Dave
  2. Mine with frank pickles has gone from £78 to £115, there are 2 admin charges if i pay over 2 months !! I think i'll still stick with him though
  3. I did a Caterham half day slalom a few years back, had a great time and was surprised at the number of execs that didn't know how to drive a rear drive car. There was a lot of standing around with only about 2 mins of proper driving. Still worth doing though as morrissons get a bit annoyed when you are drifting in their carpark lol.
  4. wasn't there a square chassis called a lolocost, i'm sure that was double wishbone at the rear. that was around just before the time RH were changing the names of the sub-k to the 2B and the old 2B to the 2B plus
  5. i've got some old wood from a kitchen work top that i drive onto first, from there i use a good block of wood underneath the buttresses to spread the load at the front. On the rear i raise by the diff with a small block of wood and use a long bit of wood accross the whole rear which i then put axle stands under. This stops any twisting of the chassis. where i have bolts on the underside, i've drilled the wood so it fits and reduces slippage. wiring is my next project, amongst others. Dave
  6. hi Richard, i'm interested to know how this goes as i have all the parts to do the conversion but no spare time, i even have adjustable TCA's for pinch and nut type. one concern i had was that the tyre would catch on the tie bar on full lock, the Burtons compression struts are alot of money for what they are. this is something i was going to do once i have the damn thing MOT'd, along with the shortened sump and the boot and the ............everything else i want to do. Fiesta Heater Woes

my sisters 02 focus had exactly the same fault, heater resistor, only 15 pounds from fords
  8. I have one from Hamilton Classics, it was about £100 but has lasted 5 years and is only now showing signs of wear, its a snug fit as its for a Caterham and i also have clam shell wings. well worth the money in my opinion as my Exmo lives outside. I've also just bought a Halfords Advanced Small cover for £65 and use this over the top of the Hamilton one. this is a bit big and i'm thinking of borrowing a sewing machine to tailor it slightly. From experience the £30 ones only last a winter or a few strong gales.
  9. crikey, just found another one, bit more cash though http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PINTO-SHORTENED-SUMP-PICK-UP-PIPE-BRISCA-KIT-CAR-STOCK-CAR-HOT-ROD-/140626568637?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20bdff25bd#ht_500wt_898

  11. hi Adam, first off dont put your email address on a public forum, you will only end up getting spammed from a nasty critter. With that out the way.. welcome. Unfortunately I cant help you with anything near me unless you get on a Herc, but i do know your area as i used to live down the A12 near Colchester. I take it you are REME VM. i think that there is a meeting place around Diss but i'm sure someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction. There are loads of folk with Zero's, 2B's and older stuff like my Exmo who will be able to either give great advice or an idea of the scale of the job. The great thing about the services is the C stores and workshops close by that help with the build. regards Dave

    Car Tax

We don't have road tax here, but the cost of petrol has just gone up to £1, couldn't believe it when i filled my car earlier. The road tax is now on fuel so the Spanish end up paying for most of our roads etc as they all come over here for the cheap fuel, spirits and fags. I keep going into shock when i come back to the UK

    Camshaft Selection

moderators. can we make this a sticky or put it in the wiki section for all concerned? useful info should not be lost to archives over time
  18. thanks for the info, i have thought about moving the top mount but figured that the control arms might be easier to fine tune albeit it an expense. can you remember if they were cosworth or standard sierra ? Dave
  19. ok cool, so the bolts or nuts refer to the hub,i thought that the pinch bolt or twin nut was at the wishbone/chassis end. i'm still waiting for compbrake to get back to me with their explanation. i'll wait a while longer before taking the plunge. anyone else had any experience with these tca's Dave
  20. hi all, hopefully someone can help me with a question. i want to change the set up on the exmo's front suspension, i have a tie bar conversion to do in the summer but need some advice from those in the know. i want to fit adjustable tca's to alter the camber but have come across different descriptions and prices, i've mostly been looking at Compbrake Ltd as they seem to have the best prices. my question is: what is the difference between a standard and cosworth tca, is the geometry slightly different? standard: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Mk1-Mk2-Pinch-Bolt-Track-Control-Arms-Adjustable-by-CompBrake/prod_157.html cosworth: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Mk1-2-COSWORTH-2WD-Track-Control-Arms-PAIR-NUT-TYPE/prod_170.html another one: http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Suspension-Acc-39-s/Wishbones-TCA-S-Compression-strut/Ford-Sierra-Escort-and-Cosworth-Pinch-Bolt-Track-Control-Arms-Pair-Adjustable/prod_192.html they all have different part numbers and prices, i know that some of you have used adjustable tca's, did you come up against any issues, toe-in etc ? cheers in advance Dave

    Radio Reports

Over here, the Gibraltian Government realised that no-one bothered to pay road tax anyway and all the Spanish were coming across the border for our cheap fuel, U/L was about 70 pence per litre. they abolished the road tax and stuck 25p or so onto the fuel, the local Spanish essentially pay for all our road works now, Fuel is now a staggering 90 pence! i know that this will be different back "home", different scenario etc. Dave

    Atom On Top Gear.

If it was me, and i had the cash, or a large enough overdraft !, i'd get an Ultima GTR. Half the price and still 2 seconds quicker than the atom. I still don't know why Top Gear dont let it on the show, i guess it might be because nothing other than dedicated racers will get anywhere near it. Its a good advertisement for British engineering though.
  25. I took mine off the road after using it for a year and started to rebuild it, but ended up going to the Falkland Isles, Iraq (twice), Kenya (twice) a few places in between and am now in Gibraltar. I mot'd it in June '10 and get about 4 hours a month if i'm lucky to work on it. i still haven't finished the Rear Suspension yet and I've still got the front to rectify before i can re-mot it. At least i have a garage now, even if it holds the junk that cant fit in the house, the car has to stay undercover on the drive. Things just sometimes take a while longer than planned. Dave
