  1. Good luck to our new club Secretary Stu Thomas (theduck) who's running the Edinburgh half Marathon this coming Sunday 25th May. He might look like he's eaten Mo Farah for breakfast but he can still get a shift on when he need to. Go Stu!!!
  2. Right here's the information regarding accommodation, these are all within about a mile radius of Nefyn which means we’re going to be a bit spread out but this wasn’t a massive problem last year. I don’t have room rates for all of them but I expect they’ll be broadly similar. Terfyn B and B (Now fully booked) Lon Terfyn Morfa Nefyn LL53 6BA 01758 721332 http://www.terfynbedandbreakfast.com/ Adult £30-00 This was a popular choice last year and the rooms went quickly. LLys Olwen Guest House Lon Tan Y Bryn Morfa Nefyn LL53 6BT 01758 720493 http://llysolwen.co.uk/ Adult £34-50 Glascoed B and B Lon Uchaf Morfa Nefyn LL53 6AL 01758 720151 Graeanfryn Farm B and B and Camping Morfa Nefyn LL53 6YQ 01758 720455 For camping, as well as Graenfryn Farm, there’s a couple of additional options, the first was the site suggest last year (but not actually used). This is in a great spot but access to the lower camping field may be difficult due to ground clearance issues so it’s probably worth asking the question if they plan on using the lower field. The owner is very helpful and can accommodate most needs. The location is just a couple of minutes drive from Nefyn literally at the bottom of my road. Penisarlon Farm Pistyll Nefyn LL53 6LR 01758 721553 http://www.penisarlonfarm.co.uk/home Second option is a bit closer to Nefyn, no website and it’s fairly small site but it’s very popular for camping and gets good reviews: Wern Caravan Park Pistyll Nefyn LL53 6LN 01758 720432 I’ll obviously be staying under my own roof again so it’s really down to wherever people want to stay. It might not be necessary to pre-book the camping but with it being school holidays, if the weather is decent, it could get busy and will also save some hassle arriving on Friday night. Last year people booked their accommodation and posted in this thread, I then updated the attendance list in the first post.
  3. I had to laugh at this - I wear Tee shirts older than that. Stiil, owners of these current classics will no doubt be made welcome.
  4. Yes, start and finish at the same place. The route should also allow people to join us part way around the route if they want to.
  5. The third Midlands run out to Wales will be taking place on the second weekend in August, Friday 8th to Sunday 10th 2014. Last year’s event seems to have gone well so I’m proposing that we do something similar again this year. Destination will be near Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula in North West Wales for some scenic driving, good natured banter and hopefully some decent weather. Accommodation can be camping or B&B depending on personal choice. A Friday afternoon departure allows a more relaxed day out on the Saturday but as not everyone will be able to get the day off, there’s the opportunity to join us on the Saturday instead if necessary. People travelling on Friday from the central Midlands will need to allow 4 hours driving at a sensible speed (c150 miles) with a couple of stops and our driving route Saturday was around 120 miles spread out across the day: Saturday Drive Saturday night I’ll hopefully do another BBQ at my house depending on numbers (limited parking). Sunday will be a leisurely drive home with maybe a stop off somewhere like Portmeirion if people want to. At the moment I just want to gauge some interest and get a rough idea of numbers – I’ll be there anyway so even if it’s just me and one other person in their tin top it’ll be on. There’s a bit of follow up from last year’s event here: http://www.rhocar.org/index.php?showtopic=37392&hl= I'll post up more details regarding accommodation later but in the meantime if there’s any questions, just ask. Tax Exempt

Depends whether it's on a Q plate or an age related one - Q plates can't be tax exempt because the age of the vehicle is effectively indetermined. If it's got Robin Hood on the V5 then it's correctly registered but does the V5 say the build date is 06/06/74? I thought the key date is the date it was first registered? If that's still June 74 and it's not on a Q plate, I think it should be tax exempt from next year.If the V5 says it's a Robin Hood build in 74 then it also sounds like a DVLA error in your favour because RH didn't start making kits until the 80's
  7. Wish I'd done this too - missed my first IVA due to a massive fuel leak on the morning of the test. NO REFUND from VOSA!!!
  8. Presumably 2B, 3A and Zero screens are different sizes? A group buy of a few of each size might reduce the cost. I've had experience of screens cut from laminated glass and I've cut a couple of screens myself and the results have been mixed to say the least. The problem seems to be getting the cut edge smooth and nicks and imperfections in the edges make the screen very likely to crack if it is flexed in service. The edges need to be machine polished not just in the normal cut state and if the two glass sheets are cut on each side before the laminate film is trimmed, you tend to end up with the glass pieces being slightly different shapes leading to steps in the thickness of the glass. I wonder if it's possible to cut the laminate blank with a water jet so it leaves a smooth edge requiring no further polishing. This would speed up the process and maybe reduce the cost.
  9. Where's the requirement for a vented cap in the IVA manual. The only thing I can see is RS12 which says that the tank must be vented to release pressure build up,. this could be achieved with a vent pipe fitted to the top of the tank or the filler pipe.
  10. I should make it over - weather looks OK at the moment. Won't be able to get there before 8 though.

    Sensor Locations?

Kickdown swith then. 2 wires Bk/Gn and BK/B Can't see it'll make any difference to whether the engine runs or not. It the car's not auto now, you won't be needing it.

    Sensor Locations?

Is that photo your car or the engine that's now in your car because it's an auto, so the switch is probably the kickdown switch for the auto box.

    Sensor Locations?

Presumably it tells the ECU when your foot isn't on the gas pedal. Could be used for fuel shutoff on over-run, could be used for cruise control (if it had it, which I assume it doesn't). I can't see it on a wiring diagram but I've only had a quick look.

    Sensor Locations?

    It's the throttle stop switch.

    Sensor Locations?

    Any help (see attached).
  16. Now you just need to apply for a duplicate V5 using form V62 which you can download. Think there's a £25 fee though if you never had the new keepers section of the old V5.
  17. The level sensor is part of the cap so you'll need the cap as well. The loom just as a 3 pin connector on it.
  18. Thanks for all the responses so far, much appreciated. I'll try and get some feedback to the additional comments that have been made next week.

    Iva Test On Monday

Speedo calibration is one of the first bits of the test, done on a rolling road. If you can get to it easily and it's a quick job, they'll probably let you tweak it on the day. Good luck!!
  20. Or alternatively, just keep using it through the winter.
  21. Don't leave your brand new car on a trolley jack overnight while you paint the insides of your front wheels. The jack might go down overnight causing the aluminuim sump to break when it touches the jack, leaving you with a gallon of oil all over the garage floor and a £200 bill for a new sump. Yup, I've done it!
  22. Are there any particular cars where you think this is a problem?
  23. One of my mates is doing some research into automotive lighting trends. He has compiled a very short survey (less than 5 minutes) to gather information regarding customers views on automotive lighting. If you could take the time to respond it would be much appreciated - no personal information is required (other than your age) and you won't be hounded to death afterwards. http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/112439SDEAV Thanks
  24. Feed the choke inlet from the pipe on the water pump, choke outlet goes to the heater inlet and the heater outlet goes back into the inlet manifold. This will give the shortest hose hose runs and ensure that the hottest coolant get to the choke as soon as possible. If you've got 2 fuel hose connections on the carb, one is probably horizontal and the other goes in at 45 degrees. The horizontal one may well be blocked off internally so you can just leave it as is and use the angled pipe. Blow down the pipes to see if either are blocked off.
