  1. I recently purchased a complete but IVA failed zero. I needed access to the dashboard area to address one minor wiring fault and had to take the whole scuttle apart! As others have said, if you have an all in one dash I would recommend making the dash removable. It's not expensive to do but is time consuming, hopefully the finished product will be worth the effort. I have taken a few photo's as I've gone along which should give you the info needed, but can't upload them at the moment as we have the builders in doing some construction work on the house.
  2. I have an early model Zero with the 2b type rear arches. The overall fit and finsh lets the car down somewhat so I'm looking to change them to full fibreglass items. Ordering from GBS would wipeout 50% of my budget to complete the car ready for IVA so I want to looking at alternatives before taking the plunge. Most standard rear arches on sierra based cars (MK, MAC1 etc) appear to be 12" wide. The width of my current arches are around 13" but I know there is an certain amount of adjustment when constructing. Can anyone with the later arches confirm how wide they are please? Thanks..

    Budget ?

Although they bring thier own set of problems, have you considered a part built kit? Very often they come up at good money as people either need to sell, or have lost interest. Buy carefully though!
  4. Anyone fancying a bit of a challenge. There's what looks like an incomplete series 2 for sale on reto rides. Altough the body looks like it's been on road at some point, the interior panels looks too good so it's probably an abandoned build. http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=FSW&action=display&thread=101767
  5. John - How could you. It took me at least 3 seconds to paint the wheels that lovely shade of gold
  6. Just to avoid confusion and save anyone being sat twddling their thumbs - isn't the service station between J31-30 Woodall Services?.
  7. Best get in the garage and start bolting bits back on. Only the welding, complete braking system, wiring and paint to go
  8. A couple of us built and SVA'd an old Series 7 a couple of years ago. The tester at the the SVA started making comment about the monococque, but when we mentioned we had previosuly tested a series 3 of basically the same contruction at the same centre last year, he backed down. If it wasn't for the fact we had both been around RH's for sometime it could have been quite easy to come away with a failiure sheet not too dissimilar to yours! The fact cars have passed at a different testing station doesn't hold water (ala the lightweight), but it might be worthwhile finding out if other series 7 or 3 cars have passed at the same place - this might lend a little more credance to a possible complaint?
  9. Been going a long time, I had one fitted to my series 3 and it was of decent quality. Unfortunately the mounting design created a stress point meaning it eventually fractured where the exhaust joined the silencer. From memory I'm not the only one to experience this but the deign may well have changed as I talking 5+ years ago. Might be worthwhile trying a search on the site.
  10. Been meaning to make one of these meets for about the past two years. No kit now, but planning to call in, in the tip top on my way home. See you all tomorrow...................
