    Off I Go

best of luck mate. hope you get a helpful tester paul
  2. cheers. thanks for the advice. it was one of those instances where you have an idea then think.....nah it cant be that easy can it? paul
  3. hello all, now we've figured out that my temp guage works and its the sender thats the wrong part i now need to change senders in the block. it occurs to me that it might be possible to stick a tray under the car whip the existing sender out, collect the water and screw the new one in without having to drain the system and run the risk of airlocks etc. is this stupid? with two of us we figured we could stick a finger in the hole to stop the bulk of the water while the new one was lined up ready to go in, and it might be a pretty quick job. but i have a feeling that this has been tried bedfore with damp consequences.... paul
  4. me neither. thats the problem.
  5. thank you graham. technical help much appreciated! too late for that anyway...the red wine's open
  6. the sprint is called the beast quite often, i think thats down to a combination of the v8 and the looks of a tatty bright yellow vindicator. an old tintop (rover 800) was nicknamed The Duchess by my mates on the way to Le mans one year due to its stately qualities. just bought a rover 75 (2.5 v6) and thats probably going to inherit the name
  7. working fine now. thanks for the advice. all i need to do now is get it out of the mug and in the engine itself! paul
  8. that would make sense. so i need to run a wire from the sender onto the chassi while the senders in my mug? paul
  9. hi all, my temp guage hasnt displayed the correct temp since i got the car, (always reading low; actually never getting above 50) and i put it down to a guage/sender mis match. i've since been onto the makers and bought a sender that matches the guage. it arrived today and i wired it up, turned the ignition on and dropped the sender into a mug of boiling hot water in the hope that this would send the needle on its way. but it didnt move at all. have i done something clueless? cheers paul
  10. another v8 here, this time in a vindicator sprint. pretty standard set up, with su carbs for now. finally got out in it this weekend and seems to go really well with its new coil and magnecor leads. you're right about the expensive year on the cards! worth it though. the best sound in the world. and even when i'm making the tea i can poke my head through the garage door and see the Su's poking through the bonnet in the darkness, and that makes me grin like a loon! paul

    Mirror Positions

at my first test i had an odd pair of mirrors (its that kind of car!) and he was happy with the mirrors ok so next time we fitted the other half of the pair to the passenger side, and the next time he failed the drivers side! infuriating really because he said he was only going to test the mirrors again so his boss could see him put the poles and cones out from his window.
  13. fantastic. congratulations!
  14. rpi are very good. very quick delivery. they do employ possibly the largest ego/rudest person i've ever spoken to in my life though. real steel i think are a bit cheaper. the sd1 forum is quite handy, just dont tell you ripped your v8 out to stick in a kit car! paul you mde the right choice by the way!

    New Hoody

six weeks ago our first baby was born, samuel william. he had a pretty eventful first first weeks, which had me and his mum making all sorts of promises to all sorts of higher powers! he contracted meningitis the day after arrival and spent some time in intensive care and then on anti-biotics three times a day for the rest of the time. we've been home now for the last two weeks though and all is well, apart from the fact that we're nervous wrecks, exhausted and covered in sick/poo at any given time. anyone know any racing seats that take an isofox base???
  17. just been looking through some pics, and spotted this i took at arnage. it must be a hood is it a member on here? Paul
  18. arent they the vectra seats ? someone may have a spare set.....
  19. thats the oje i'd like the 4.6 ford v8 powered one. just my kind of thing. big daft v8 in an old mans car!
  20. hi matt, a small local label maker would be a good bet. they'd use a rule die and will have hundreds in stock so you wont pay for tooling. let me know if you want to find a local one. i used to work in die cutting and can give my old place a call. i can even ask if they have any old test presses lying around. can i ask what you are doing with them? paul
  21. b*m does that mean that i might end up with a fuel gauge that doesnt mach the rest of the dials? or is there any kind of add on variable resistor i could buy that would sort any problem out? thanks chris Paul
  22. does anyone have any idea why they built it? seems an odd way to spend 3million
  23. hello, i've bought a new petrol tank as the old one was leaking. its a mini van tank, and comes with a mini sender unit. i also need to buy a fuel gauge (car currently doesnt have one) and had intended to buy one that matches the rest of the dials (this range here : http://www.speedycables.com/page21.html ) i dont know however if the two will be compatible, or what i need to know to work it out can anyone offer any advice? thanks Paul

    Getting Fired

the media seem to have decided that moral outrage is much better to generate than real news stories. they seemed to get a taste for it with ross/brand and now it seems its every week they find that someone somewhere has said something that might be offensive to someone. now i dont particularly mind thatcher being sacked (exactly what is she qualified to do: other than being the slightly less pointless sibling in that family?) but i dont quite see why it should be front page news. its worrying that journalists would rather moralise/create moral outrage than report on news items these days.
