I actually managed to get some quality garage time today! Turns out being married to an irish girl and living in Birmingham has its benefits, well, one at least, that being once a year she goes with her family to the st paddys parade and I'm free to work in the garage!
So today, I realised I had made some mistakes with tunnel top mark 2, and so started on mark 3 which I am now happy with, jut needs a few more tweaks so it sits right and then covering, currently looks like this...
It is going to be padded and covered in either carpet or black leatherette, I have both and can't decide which to use! Hoping to get to do some work on it during the evenings this week and get it finished off.
I also finally got round to fitting and wiring in my fan control switch, though didn't take any photos as the wiring currently looks like a bowl of spaghetti.
Because of the design of the S7, for IVA you have to fit a panel to enclose the rear boot area as in standard form this is left open to the main "cockpit". In it self this isn't a problem, except the fuel filler hose passes through the boot and access to the fuel sender is there also, and this cannot be open to the main cockpit. This was quickly sorted by bonding in a piece of plastic already cut to size that I will carpet when I do the rest of the carpeting.
While I had the caulk gun in my hand and loaded with adhesive, I decided to bond the wiring for the side repeaters to the underside of the cycle wings in preparation of their final fit. Just waiting on getting my tyres fitted to my wheels so I can make sure alignment is right before fixing them in place.
Almost forgot, I also FINALLY fitted my nearside axle cover!!
The nearside of the car has tended to be a bit neglected in terms of progress simply because there has tended to be less room that side.
I then did some more painting. This time it was the exhaust manifold down pipe, the silencer, the heat shield and the offside side panel all in matt black using a heat proof paint, which i have to say is horrible to use as it is so wet! Though because its so wet, any runs can easily be corrected.
I also noticed that the bar I had added to the roll bar had some surface rust and so gave that a quick rub down and a dusting of paint also to prevent further rust. It still needs a bit of neatening up before I paint it properly but it looks better already.
Last of all I went to seal over my fuel senders, and then found the new one (a freebie from a member on locostbuilders) to be slightly different to my old one, and in trying to adapt the two to make one good sender, I broke them. Decided rather than faffing about any more I would just order a new sender the same as my original one which I was able to get from kitspares
Thats it for today, feel like I have been really productive and can see the end now!
