Insurance

Just a point to everyone who has recovery through their specialist insurance, Today I had a classic motorcycle rider who had broken down on the motorway, with an old British bike, he had insurance & recovery with Footman James, he didn't have any documentation with him about his insurance, or phone number to call in case of needing recovery.

If it hadn't been myself that answered the emergency phone ( & Mitch being at home!) it would have cost him over £100 plus to be removed from the motorway. It took me 5 phone calls and over 30 minutes to get to the right department and get it sorted out for him, I was left on hold for over 15 minutes at one point, he was lucky, after the first aborted phone call it would have been duty garaged with most of my colleagues.

The moral of this is, have your membership / policy number with you at all times, and the number that needs to be called.

Jim

PS. And don't break down in my patch of motorway! ;)

Jim, with the lenghts in which you went too, i think your patch would be the best place to breakdown.

Im sure some ops would have just sent the duty recovery and charged him.

Right, insurance time for me!

Renewal from osbournes was £570 (down from £721 last year) which i was relatively pleased with.

Sureterm quoted £400, osbournes couldn't match. Flux £375, sureterm matched flux, flux went to £350!!! Flux also allow you to gain NCB, unlike sureterm.

I'm 23, 1 years' NCB, doing 5000 miles/yr. I'm also a very happy man!

I renewed my policy with Roadsure a few weeks ago (£176 fully comp, 3000miles, 28 with 1 year ncb - no one else could get below £200!).

Anyway, this morning I got a milage declaration letter, which also said in the small print at the bottom that I needed to supply 6 photos of the car for valuation purposes! :o

Don't remember having to do that before??

Having finally received my certificate I was a bit miffed to see that I wasn't covered for driving to work and back!!

After psyching myself up for a good moan I phoned Osbourne and Sons and they said they would add that cover for free. Also said they could up me from 3000miles to 5000miles for another £25 quid - making the premium £158. Not bad really.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just up for renewal.

Roadsure £143

Adrian Flux £110 (including extra driver)

This is identical cover - 4k agreed value, 3000 miles, comprehensive. Although I will bounce it back to Roadsure to see if they can better it.

(Edit)

Roadsure came back with £135 for me and the extra driver, but only by waiving their admin fee. So, it's Fluxy for me... hooray!

be carefull with roadsure, i insured with them after explaining i would most likely cancel in a few days and was told no worries theres a 14 day cooling off period,

when i cancelled the policy after 5 days i had to call them after 3 weeks and ask where the hell my money was, they said we'll give you £20 back.

well as you can imagine i went up the wall at them. £80 for 5 days insurance? pisstake............

so after 40minutes on the the phone i finally got £50 back, still a pisstake but yeah.

edit to say after another week still no money back yet so i guess i have to waste even more on another phonecall tomorrow.
