Cooling System Diagram

Hi, bit of help please? Does anyone have a cooling system diagram for a 2.0 pinto engine? I am wanting to put an expansion tank in due to air locks. I have the tank & I know it needs to go high up as possible, I have a suitable location for it in mind. Also am I right in thinking that the heater pipes need to be low down as possible too? Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Phil

Yes I have a heater, also not sure what sort of radiator I have but it only has a top & bottom hose with an overflow just by the filler cap if that helps?

you shouldn't need an header tank unless the heater is above the rad cap. sounds like the original Cortina rad ?

it should have something for expansion though I use a small pop bottle :)

It has a small bottle for expansion on it. I would still like to know if anyone has a diagram?

thermostat to top of rad.. bottom of water pump to bottom of rad. smaller pipe from water pump to heater then out of heater to inlet manifold. that's how mines piped up.

minus the heater

Not a diagram and no heater, but mine is :-

Pump to rad lower. Header tank Tee'd into this line.

Rad upper to Thermostat. Thermostat elbow bleed ran back to top of header tank

Heater connection linked to manifold connection.

Gents ,

Can some one help, I have been scratching my head for some time with this issue, using longborders diagram which is how I have plumbed my pinto  where would an expansion tank be connected as my radiator which is from a seat Marbella is a straight in/out with no cap so the tank is essential with this setup.

If you go by this generic diagram I found, looks like connect bottom of header to lower rad hose and top to top hose or heater pipe. Tank has to be higher than cooling system.

Sorry but that is a confusing diagram.

Thermostat in radiator return line, I have never seen that and wonder how it can work.

The thermostat is normally closed and opens as it warms. It is always near engine in the line taking coolant from the engine to the radiator so as to sense when the engine reaches operating temp.
