    Which Kit

I would. My next kit will be a Zero wide body and I don't need to see it before ordering. However, I know hoods so don't need as much information as a fresh punter. Most people will compare what they see online and then make a short list of companies to see. It might be a short list of 1 or 2 to go and see and make decision from that. When you compare a fully built Zero to a fully built Westfield or Caterham, the price isn't that different. I think a Caterham classic is £13,5k isn't it and a Westie £14.5 for the kit. Both are £3k additional to have on the road and include VAT. Now, compare that with the fully built Zero which is £14k + vat (£17k) and on the surface, the Zero is quite expensive. If you were not a Hoodie and were looking for a fully built brand new car, which would be in your short list? If you wanted a kit with all componants, which would you choose. A company that lists everything or one where you cant figure out what kit they were talking about or the price? All I'm doing is to try and ensure GBSC maximise their share of potential customers out there but end up feeling I have to justify my position as if I'm criticising Robin Hood in some way.

    Avatars

Quick technical question. If someone has a animated avatar (and I think we know the ones I'm talking about ) can I use them on another forum or are they peoples property and only available on here?
  3. Not too sure you're correct there Webby. Most oils run at about 90 degrees and can go higher. Around the head, they can get quite a bit higher which is obviously detrimental and why they break down. As for capacity, it is important to maintain capacity and the Pinto sumps I do have a additional resevoir fabricated but the Silvertop sump has minimal loss from cutting the angle off and IMHO, is fine. You gain about 1 inch clearence for the loss of about 200ml max. With tollerances in a modern engine, I can live with that

    Which Kit

John Your opinion is noted but mine is that there could be more done to improve the current site. It was not a criticism of GBSC but some feedback on the experience I had. The site entices but confuses in my humble opinion. As for buying a Kit online, that is what I would do. If I was looking for a Kit, I would research and check out the forums before making my mind up. I might go up to the Factory for a butchers but with the current car I have, my decision was purely online based. I purchased a part built and just about all of the parts I needed to complete without setting foot out of my front door. This is the way quite a few people do business these days so the more information there is, the more able I am to make a decision. Sorry my friend but this is Bull. As a professional sales person, you should have been told in your first job about the ratio of ears to mouth. If a customer (and I would class myself as an informed customer) is saying they are a little confused then your response should be to understand their concern and look at how best to address it. Not to tell them they are following the wrong sales model and need to change their approach. I wonder how many people have purchased a kit before visiting the site and consequently, how many people have NOT purchased a kitfrom GBSC but gone elsewhere for whatever reason?
  5. Hi Roman Your English is fine and welcome. There are many more knowledgeable bods on here than me but could there be a fuel evaporation problem?

    Which Kit

Hi Phil I appreciate that and never questioned that there wasn't a part list. I was suggesting there should be more descriptive information on the kits, what would be involved to get them on the road, which is the wide kit, what kit comes as a rolling chassis and if there was a kit that comes complete with everything, which one it was? As I see it, there is no "complete" kit in the range as such. When a prospective customer looks at the site, they should come away dreaming of the kit they want, not filled with more questions. Hopefully feedback will help.
  7. 4 into 1 straight over the top Zetec manifold. Brand new in normal steel (not stainless) This manifold fits over the chassis top (cut the bonnet like the Zero) but I have managed to plumb mine inside the car now so don't need this one. £130. Pickup or you arrange delivery because of size. If anyone wants it, I'll try and remember to post some pictures.
  8. It's all about choosing the right oil. Unless you're running it in cold temps, you don't need to bother too much with the first figure but the second is important. If you're running hotter or have a worn engine, you might want to go up a bit from the recommended oil as this is slightly more viscous. If you're engine is tuned or if you want more power, go lighter (lower number) but this increses wear and seals don't last as long. As a rough guide: 15w - 40 (15W is the viscosity in cold temp or Winter and 40 when hot) 15w - 30 (Faster engines but not as long lasting) 15w - 45 (Older or hotter engines) 5w would be quickly effective in cold conditions until it warms up.
  9. I have to say that I have nothing but good to say about them. It's like a little Fluxy Lov-in here, isn't it I look forward to insuring again with them in April.

    Which Kit

Hi Phil I was going to attempt to answer your question but after looking at the website, I haven't got a clue Don't get me wrong, the website is excellent. Soooo much better than it used to be and very professional looking. However, it could do with a bit more information. For example, what is a 2468 apart from a price. I've been around a bit and have never heard of it. Is it a cross between the base kit and a Zero Zetec... or a Zero plus... or a Superspec? Also, I heard there was a wide body. Is this the plus or the superspec and what explanation is there for who the different kits is aimed at. Also, I found this: I can see the base kit. It is £1795 and amazing value. The best priced kit in the world in my opinion and a great start. It would be good though to have some informations on what other parts and Donor vehicle is required to get this on the road. If there are other parts that RH supply, then could these be listed as a pack or individual items. Is one of the other models the rolling chassis mentioned above or do they all come in kit form and you need to contact the firm for other options. Lastly, there is a kit with everything ready to complete a car. Is this the Zetec and if so, what gearbox, ignition etc does it have? I'm sure Richard will see this thread and will know that this is not a dig in any way but some constructive feedback. Customers need some more info on the kits and what it entails to build one. It would be great to have a roadmap with pictures from buying a base kit to a finished build in stages so people can see what they can get to in a base build and how each stage progresses from there. At a first step though, an explanation of each kit is mandatory. If anyone else has suggestions perhaps they can post it here?
  11. I have the Silvertop which has a 1 piece Sump and have chopped the angle off and welded it flat. To be honest, the amount of capacity I have lost is pretty minimal but it gives me nearly an inch more ground clearance for very little loss.
  12. I was thinking of using it to encourage Caterhams out of the way
  13. I may have one coming up for sale in the next few weeks. This car has been built by Colin Denyer who is not formally connected with Robin Hood but did work with them on developing the Racing Hood a few years ago and still provides some services to the company so has a good pedigree with these cars. The car itself is a recent double wishbone 2B with a 2.0 Pinto engine in standard trim. The car was built and SVA'd a couple of years ago and has since sat at Dunsfold under a cover. If you have been to Top Gear, it was the orange car opposite the hanger doors. My opinion of the car is that it's been professionally built to a good basic level but is very much a blank canvass. This car is ready to drive on the road and will come with a new MOT so is ideal for someone that wants to get started with no agro. However, it's perfect if you want to start changing things to make it individual, polish bits and mess around making it your own. At the moment, it has the windscreen fitted by no wipers or heaters. I'm looking for £4k. You are welcome to view it at Dunsfold but will need to come in with me for Security reasons. If anyone is interested, I'll get it ready for the MOT, give it a spruce up and send some Photo's.

  16. Do the conversion. It's not just a matter of handling and looks but I would say it's safer as well. Please don't jump down my throat anyone with a sliding pillar who loves it but as someone that had SP, I found it unpredictable and inferior to a wishbone setup. I have yet to meet anyone that has done the conversion that regrets it for a second. Saying that, the GBS conversion kit is a slight compromise but it has to be. You can always do the conversion and tweak as you need but in standard form, it's ready to roll out of the box and I think Richard still offers to do the work. I went for a bespoke caterham kit that needed a lot of work to set the right geometry and would not recommend this unless you want to lose your hair, relationship, life etc. You might find that the GBS kit needs to be slightly modified as each 2b tends to have it's own personality
  17. I know some people say it's dead easy but after doing about 20 of these, it's not. The trick is to get the additional reservoir to line up perfectly with the side of the sump after cutting it. I would say that to cut the sump, cut and shape the extra reservoir and to clean ready to tack takes me over 2.5 hours. The actual tig welding takes about 30 mins after that. Now, some people will say you can do it in an hour and mig weld it all and they are probably right. However, a few people have come to me with efforts that leak like tea sieves. The main thing to remember is to have the fabricated piece and the original sump as closely matched as possible and then spend as much time as necessary cleaning every bit of crap out of there to get a good weld. Lets face it, a rusty, oily old sump ain't the best canvass to start with

    Julian Assange

Julian is a Geek with a hard-on that he had trouble keeping within the confines of his pants. He was warned that he was leaving himself open to danger by his antics and was set up like a Kipper. Then it was some politically influenced prosecution to blow this up out of all proportions. Miss A is one of the "accusers". She worked in the Swedish Embassy in the USA, is purported to have links to the CIA and wrote a Thesis on the effects of leaking political information out of Cuba following the demise of Castro. Not the sort of person you might expect to be inviting Mr Assange to talk at a Left wing meeting and then invite him back to her place for consensual sex. Next morning they were again engaged in horizontal aerobics when the accusation is that either Mr Assange deliberately split a condom or didn't use one at all. Then the next day Mr Assange is introduced to the other "Lady" who goes down on him in a Cinema and again they engage in consensual sex (several times) with the accusation being that Mr Assange slips one in the next morning when she's asleep. Both women have stated that they engaged in consensual practices, do not regards Mr Assange as a threat but even though they didn't really know each other, decided to meet up and go to the police who then throw the book, book case, Library and anything else they can think of into a set of very serious charges. The thing is, this action is a bit silly. Wikileaks have sidelined Mr Assange somewhat and all this action serves is to bring more publicity, expose this victimization and raise funds from sympathizers. Wikileaks will go on (Thank Heavens). It's much bigger than one man and there needs to be exposure of some of the atrocities such as http://www.collateralmurder.com/

  22. Was it me speed reading or were there slightly fewer pages than normal? If so, I assume it's because us members need to get off our fat arses and contribute a bit more Love reading Shafty's build log (and thanks for the plug Nick). I don't know about anyone else but seeing this car being built on this forum has been a mixture of excitement and envy. BTW, if anyone needs clamps, please let me know. A picture of the Sierra type are on the back page and they can be purchased direct from RH (although I don't know the price being charged or whether we will be selling direct for much longer).

  24. I didn't like the lugs so I drilled the cross member and fitted crush tubes. Don't know about captive nuts. I fitted captives to the bottom mounts for ease of fitting but the SVA man said I didn't need to
