  1. Assuming it's sliding pillar (see here for identification http://nw.rhocar.org/identification.htm ) then the griding on the inside of the wheel is probable wear that can fairly easily be rectified. Wishbone conversions are available and a few people have done them but they generally don't come that cheap. There's also plenty of cars still running sliding pillars with satisfied owners. Best advise as you've just bought the car is to get the suspension working as it should and get out and enjoy the car. You may then decide that a wishbone conversion isn't worth the additional cost and the money could be better spent on other modifications.
  2. There's in excess of 20 people on this thread who've indicated that they're attending, plus no doubt more who will join on the day. Excellent support for this very worthwhile event - could this be the biggest convoy of cars in the clubs history? I have to echo some of the the other comments on here though, parking looks like it could be a problem. It's not that easy to take over the town when spaces just aren't available and there's a good chance that people without local knowledge of the area will get separated from the main group. I don't know the local area but is there any chance that that a local business with private parking might be approached to provide some parking in return for a bit of publicity? Few pictures and a write up in the local press?

  4. It's the Savlon tank - for rubbing on the burnt bits.
  5. Agreed, he's basically admitting it's a ringer - doesn't make what he's doing right thought. It looks a well put together car, if he tore up the V5 and sold it as 99% complete just needing IVA he'd probably sell it but given the £900 odd it fcosts or IVA, a re-test and first registration - how much is it worth realistically?
  6. It would probably be picked up on the brake tester and would most likely fail becuase it's not safe to drive on the road.

  9. It's a Pinto, if there's no oil under it, there's no oil in it. Even new sump gaskets leak if they're not fitted properly. If the seals and gaskets have recently been changed it might be worth nipping the bolts up a bit in case the gasket has settled.

    Overheating Tin Top

pm me the vehicle year, model, transmission type and engine code if you know it and I'll look on elsawin. If I can find the info I'll try and email it to you (so an email address would be helpful too)
  13. I dipped the oil and cleaned the windscreen last night. I'm heading up tonight leaving around 7-30 so I'll be arriving quite late but at least I should have some quiet roads on the way. Toworrow I'll head back to Rhug and should see everyone there sometime after 4PM.
  14. Proving it's not too late to come along and returing for his second year, RedTrev will now be joining us.He's probably going to meet up at Dobbies in Shrewsbury.
  15. I think the standard swicth brings the light on below about 5 psi - i.e. just after the real damage is done. Just the keep the oil topped up, it'll be fine.

    Irony

He's quite a one for the ladies too apparently but instead of having a big cock, he just decided to be one instead.

It can't be a bribe - what's in it for Bernie?
  20. Be interesting to see how far up the stick an extra pint moves the level?
  21. I overfilled my Pinto with oil, was way over the maximum level. Only differenct I noticed was blowing some oil vapour out of the filler cap on the motorway, I've drained some out now but I prefer to run it on the fuller side because I know that the oil does surge a bit with a shortened sump regardless of how well its baffled. Also, a lot of Pintos in kits seem to be fitted so that they're low at the front (probably to clear the bonnet). The attached (not brilliant) image shows the angle difference between the engine and the carb mounting flange - the carb flange should be horizontal (and clearly isn't on my car). In addition to the engine being tilted forwards and the oil being slightly more forward in the sump, the oile in the head also has more difficulty draining back down into the sump through the drain hole at the back of the head.
  22. Oil level too low so sucking up air when the oil surges. Stick another pint in and see if it still does it.
  23. Soda Blasting - just make some blanking plates up for the inlet and outlet. http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/
