  1. Step 1. Sell the helmet but keep the box. Step 2. Put bubblewrap around childs head. Step 3. Cut eye and nose holes (mouth hole optional). Step 4. Fit box over bubblewrap. Step 5. Cut hole in box to align with holes cut in Step 3. Step 6. Form a weather tight seal between the base of the box and the child with duct tape.

    Axle

Atlas axles are basiclally heavier duty than the Enlish ones - bigger and thicker axle tubes, bigger bearings and crown wheel / pinion. Theyt're also quite a bit heavier. There's a downloadable article here that's worth a read: http://www.classicfordmag.co.uk/2012/01/04/definitive-guide-to-atlas-axles/
  3. Yes, the more the merrier - if you turn up, you'll definitely get fed so the catering isn't a problem.

    Overheating Tin Top

The leaking is usually quite subtle so you don't get pooling coolant, it just comes out as steam which you're only likely to spot on a cold day. Feel under the tank, you can sometimes get coolant residue on the tank which is an easy spot. Tank is probably main dealer only but should be under £40 (can't remember what the last one cost me but it wasn't too bad). Part number is most likely 8E0121403 but dealer will confirm from VIn or reg number, get a new cap as well for the extra few quid. Second had not worth bothering with, they could be just as bad as your current on

    Overheating Tin Top

Cracked coolant header tank - I'd almost put money on it. I've had 2 of these, one on a 1.9tdi Audi 80 and the other on my S6. The cracks are usually very small on the underside of the tank so not immediately obvious but the coolant boils out slowly and the cooling system doesn't hold pressure so it boils easily. The tanks are suprisingly cheap fortunately.
  6. Sounds like it's the 1950's again. Not things most people expect to be doing on a daily driver, still at least he'd still have the Zero to use when he can't get the Mazda started. Personally if I was looking to spend the (roughly £2.5 to 3K) that a reasonable RX8 seems to cost, and was looking for something to use every day, the Mazda wouldn't be in my shortlist. As someone who seems to make a career out of running expensive, tempramental cars as daily drivers, it's not something I'd generally recommend unless you're completely mad and also have deep pockets.
  7. My neighbour ran an RX8 for a couple of years. The issues he had with it were many and varied including hot start problems, coil packs and starter motors. He's a car nut and dead handy with the spanners but even he was getting tired of it. and wished he'd never bought it. No doubt there's plenty of people who run them with few problems but when they do go wrong you need either deep pockets, patience or a combination of both. Like many things, they're great when they're running well - something these don't do that often apparently. If you do get an RX8, you'd be more likely to need to drop the Zero engine in in, not the other way round.
  8. This thread is starting to sound like a broken Record.
  9. I'd prefer to think of it as an evening kick off.
  10. Another thought, badly worn lower suspension bushes on the LHS could cause pulling to the left because the whell that side will tend to move rearwards under power.
  11. Presume that no other parts have been changed on it recently?
  12. It's about time you got your IVA application in - it's only 9 weeks until the Wales weekend!!!! Do you need a hand with anything - assistance is always available.

    Disaster!

It's worst for those left behind, thankfully in this case there doesn't seem to have been a saucer.
  14. Yes it could be converted, but it's quite a lot of work. If you've still got to get it through IVA then my advise would be to stick with the currunt suspension and concentrate on getting it on the road. They'll be more than enough jobs to keep you busy as it is, without adding to them. One of the reasons so many car end up unfinished is people forget how much is involved and then loose interest. If you minimise the work required to get the car on the road, the experience of driving it might spur you into a suspension change as a later winter upgrade.
  15. That looks an ideal candidate.
  16. How about buying an unfinished 2B off Ebay, one of the ones that's 95% complete and only needs a couple of weekends work. We could buy that, finish it off and then raffle it off. Only joking. What about getting one of our "longer term " builders who's nearly there but struggling to finish their car off and doing it for them.
  17. There's plenty of places that'll make flexi hoses up to your specification. About 3 years ago I used Mtec racing in Tamworth to do mine and as they're close to you, it might be worth giving them a call to see if they'll make some up while you wait. That way you know that what you're getting is correct. http://www.mtec-racing.com/
  18. As an aside, this thread ( and other recent ones like it) seem to indicate that as a club, even with the wealth of experience we have here, we struggle to definitively identify some cars. Maybe we could do with a "buying a Robin Hood guide" that could be made as a sticky and collates the useful information on the NWRhocar site together with newer information. This might help potential new buyers identify exactly what they're looking at, understand whether it's correctly registered and then decide based on that.
  19. It could still be registered correctly if it's a Robin Hood Lolocost chassis in which case the chassis should look like the one in this thread: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?fid=2&tid=27933&action=printable The obvious features to look for would be the shape of the plates that the steering rack mount to, upper harness fixings that are vertical tubes welded to the back of a box section (a RH favourite) and the shape of the plating that mounts the Sierra diff. These are likely to be unique to the RH Lolocost chassis (and difficult to replicate onto another chassis) and would identify it as a RH product rather than something else with a RH identity on it. Obviously the original chassis receipt for Robin Hood for a Lolocost would tie in with the dates and prices shown in the link above. If it was me I'd want to look at the actual chassis and see the reciept in some detail before committing. If these check out OK. Suprised that the V5 would say Robin Hood Lotus 7 because Lotus is a manufacturer in it's own right and so shouldn't be used as the description of another manufacturers vehicle. (Robin Hood 7 or Robin Hood Lolocost would be more correct).
  20. Some quality photos there, looks like Stu's getting some air in that second one - daylight under both feet!!
  21. You're more than welcome to come along.
